I have had these pens through 2 Rottweilers, and now a we have a amstaffy puppy. We have a pen on our lanai with turf. One outside, and I just ordered another one to equal 24 panels so he can have a large outdoor run until he's big enough to own the entire yard full time. If you're thinking about it, do it. We have 2 40" tall pens and a 16 on its way. 💯 perfect indoor or out, and the stakes that hold the Pen can go in the ground for more sturdiness if you have a jumper like we do.     • Pen Seems Excellent - Pin Bent in Shipment, VERY Difficult to Get Easy Solution from Amazon without Returning Pen Outright

I like the pen very much - heavy duty and would conceptually work very well with my litter of 9 golden retriever puppies. It sets up easily, and is self-explanatory (there are no instructions, but none are needed). The panels are heavy, and I will be surprised if my puppies, even when they are 8 weeks old, will be able to knock this down. I purchased the 40" tall pen, so I am absolutely positive there will be no jumping over it, either. I doubt my fully grown golden retrievers could jump over this without some kind of launching point. However, I am only giving the product 3 stars because of my experience with Amazon. The box was damaged during shipment, and the connector stakes/pins slid through the hole/damage in the box. When I found the package on my porch, they were sticking out of the top of the box, about 80% of the way inside. I opened the box, extracted the bundle of pins (there were 8) and found that one of the pins was bent. One can try to bend them back, but it is difficult for one person to get them perfectly straight. I thus called Amazon, as I had read other reviews of the product and noted that other customers had been shipped the pen without the stakes. Other customers appeared to be able to get the connector pins/stakes sent to them without any hassle, and without returning the entire ex-pen. In fact, Stakes/connector pins were not an uncommon needed item, reading through the reviews. This was encouraging, because my puppies are larger than average and are already, after 2.5 weeks, escaping the whelping box that normally, they would not be able to. First, the woman at Amazon customer service would probably be considered to have reasonable English, but not sure if she is fluent enough to be on front line customer service call lines. It took several repetitions to explain what had occurred. There were long pauses in the conversation, where she would ask me about something completely irrelevant to the damaged box/stakes. She also said, "Hmmm" alot, followed by long pauses - probably her verbal crutch as she was processing the information on the other end of the line. She kept asking me about two other boxes, which were large dog crates, that were also shipped with the pen. I explained several times that three large boxes arrived on the same day: two large dog crates, each in separate boxes, and then the ex-pen. Only one of the boxes was damaged: the ex-pen box (I did not abbreviate it the "ex-pen," because I was trying to be specific, but rather, called it the "Pet Exercise Pen." Once she finally understood that, I had to explain about the bent pin. As of right now, I am not at all convinced that she completely understood. Or, she didn't believe me. There was this general air of doubt in her voice, which I chose to interpret as her not being able to fully follow what I was saying, rather than that she doubted the veracity of my issue. She finally announced to me, with great pride, that she could replace the item "free of charge." But, then she went on to explain that I'd have to repackage the ex-pen that I had, and get it back to Amazon. To me, that technically is not replacing it free of charge - I paid for it, this item is shipped free, so am missing this nuance. Perhaps she was referring to not charging me for shipping it back to Amazon. And of course it should be replaced free of charge! Surely she wasn't implying that in some circumstances, Amazon would replace it, but would charge me for it again? She also said that Amazon didn't replace items until they received the item back, but "in this case, she could make it happen." She acted as if she were doing me a favor. Huh. When things have been lost in the mail before, or I have received damaged items, and I've notified Amazon, they just send out a replacement. When I expressed that my puppies were needing the ex-pen within a few days, as they were a larger than average litter and were thus escaping their current quarters, and that really, if Amazon could send a replacement connector pin, this would be a perfect solution - I didn't need a refund or a replacement, and certainly had no expectation of a completely new ex-pen "free of charge." I also said that if she had a manufacturer's or distributor's contact number, I'd be happy to contact them to ask about getting connector pins. Honestly, I would be happy to buy an entire extra set of pins. I can imagine, over time, that bent pins/connector stakes would be the most likely issue with this pen. She didn't even consider that or even try to answer that question. Every time I said something that I think she did not understand, she went back to repeating something else. It was like she was stuck on a linear script, and anytime I said something that wasn't within the expected script, she tried to get back on script. Which made for a bizarre conversation, because I can't follow whatever customer service script Amazon teaches it's staff. My issue is unique, and I need someone to help me resolve my issue. I am open to suggestions, but I am not open to engaging in a linear, scripted conversation. That's not how it should work from the customer's side. Again, I am making the assumption that she did this because of language skills, or even, perhaps she was a new Amazon staff member. Or, does Amazon outsource it's customer service and so I was speaking to someone in India or in Thailand? That thought just occurred to me now, and could explain some of the language difficulties. Anyway, REALLY frustrating and not the legendary Amazon customer service that I've heard of. I actually need to purchase another ex-pen (yes, I like the product that much), as I want to expand it, and I want another door in the pen which will face a tub for puppy baths. I'll still have 15 pins, instead of 16, but for now, I will be able to move the puppies into the ex pen and then will explore how to obtain an extra set of pins - I have to believe they are available SOMEHOW, since other reviewers have certainly received them. I'm bummed. This is the first time really that Amazon has had to prove it's mettle in customer service with me, and I'd give it a C, maybe C minus. Granted, I am a Prime member and spend several thousand dollars a year at Amazon, and rarely have issues. So, the track record of shipment without damage is high (hence, why I'm willing to get another ex-pen through Amazon). But, I also admit, I have another issue, and I have to call Amazon customer service and the experience is like this again, it will quickly erode my loyalty and Amazon will no longer be my go to place. One has to be confident that if you have an issue with a company, they will partner with you to resolve it. ... show more

Plenty of space, sturdy construction, reasonable wright. The connector sticks are a bit flimsy, and unless you’re securing it into the ground a determined dog could easily escape. But as a deterrent for medium dogs (and with supervision) and a cage for small dogs (probably still with supervision) it does the job. ... show more

I absolutely love this pen and it was the best thing I could do for my 6 month old German Shepherd! I don't have a yard, and had to keep her in a large crate for over 8 hours when I went to work. I felt like that was not good for her, as it made her start to slouch and slink a lot and spend too much time being "bed ridden" and confined to a cage. I got this, and my husband put it together in two minutes. We keep it in the garage and she is much happier now. It is big enough for her to walk around a bit... and if she has an accident, at least she won't be laying in her own mess. It is sturdy enough to where she won't knock it down even when she rears on it... and she is a big girl (going to be 100lbs). It does change shapes throughout the day. In the morning, it will be in an octagon, but by afternoon it will be in a diamond shape... She leans on it and it moves a little, but not where it would fall down. I bought some bowls that will clip onto the sides, and those work well. At first, I purchased a $25 large linoleum mat from Lowes for easy floor clean up. After about two weeks of boredom, she decided to tear that up.. Now she is on the cement, but that works just as well. My only complaint is that at the top of every column that attaches the fences together, there is an opening where she gets her foot stuck. On multiple occasions, I had to rush to her because she was yelping in pain because her foot was caught at the top. I ended up cramming socks into the opening which prevented her foot from sliding down the crack. The socks aren't a permanent solution. I suppose if she got bored enough, she could pull the socks out. I have yet to figure out what to do with that... but at least she isn't in danger of hurting herself when I'm not there. I noticed that a lot of other pens had this same design flaw, so if your dog is large, I would either buy a different type of pen or find something to stuff the top cracks with. Anyways, I am very happy with it, as it offered my dog more space and the ability to get more energy out throughout the day. For the price, it is worth every penny to me. ... show more
