  • Not a Bessey quality product
Bought this as a spreader for a project, replacing outdoor furniture slings. I thought this would be a great solution for the spreader that I lost. Unfortunately, this clamp was not strong enough to separate the rails and the jaw on the mechanical end broke soon after I starting using it. The plastic components were not robust enough for the task. ... show more

  • No instructions or tech support
I called 12 days ago on 9Dec2020 and was told that someone would call me back about my question on how to convert the clamp surfaces on the DUO 65-8 DUMKLAMP from Clamp to Spread. No one has called me back yet as of 21Dec2020. It appears to me that there is NO conversion possible without pushing out the spring roll pins and turning the clamp surfaces around and then reassembling. This is deceptive. At the very least Bessey should furnish 3 extra orange clamping pads so that the corner clamping pads don't have to be moved around. I may return these clamps unused even though I have a project that needs an expander clamp right now. There is NO guarantee period indicated on the packaging either. Ken 4Jan2021 Update -->> Still no communication from Bessey to work out a solution (now 2 weeks has gone by). I will give them to the end of the week. Happy New Year! • Appears to be a quality clamp BUT
Appears to be a quality clamp BUT the description says the clamp has 800 lbs of clamping force. The attached package indicates a clamping force of 260 ibs. That's a huge difference. The bar is slightly over 1/8 X 3/4 in. I believe the 260 lbs is correct not 800 lbs. Would give 4 stars as a 260 lbs clamp. ... show more

  • These clamps are the real deal
I am a pretty advanced cabinet maker in addition to being a versatile remodeler. I own 22 of these DuoKlamp clamps in various sizes plus about 50 Bessey parallel clamps and have been using them since 2007. I also own at least 100 clamps of approximately 20 other types. These DuoKlamps clamps are my "go to" clamps for general clamping use. With one hand you can hold your parts together and clamp with the other. I like these clamps because they hold securely, have moveable pads, and are durable. Since 2007 I have only broken one which is pretty admirable service. Something went out in the ratcheting linkage. I did not bother taking it apart to do failure analysis because I am busy and it was the only one that failed, I really abuse these clamps; the worst treatment I give them is when I clamp them as hard as possible and then grab the handle and twist the joint with the clamp. In spite of my abusive use, these clamps have held up well. I have dropped them numerous times and I really whale on them when tightening them. I use both the short reach and long reach sides and I use them for spreading as well as clamping. These clamps have plenty of holding power. If I do not care about marring the service of my material, I can use a screw-type clamp to apply more force. If you do welding then I would recommend an all steel clamp to hold up to the heat and the spatter of welding. (you should not be using clamps with plastic pads for welding). I find these clamps much easier to use than my Irwin clamps. Without any reservation, I can recommend these clamps. ... show more

  • strong, easy to use
I have been using this brand of clamps for perhaps ten years. They are so easy to use compared to many other styles of clamps. I have other clamps that will exert more pressure, but for normal gluing purposes these are fine. I would say a perfect design except for one bothersome thing. They function as a spreader too. As the clamps aged, they tended to automatically switch over to the spreader function. I have to stop and switch it back. I have never used the clamp as a spreader. The problem is not worth removing a star from these otherwise great clamps. ... show more

  • Good clamps!
I started in life as a carpenter-served a 4 year apprenticeship and then spent a dozen years working as a journeyman, before I left the trade. That was in the late 80's. Since then, I have become a fairly accomplished furniture builder, using a combination of hand and power tools. I have a number of clamps, ranging from Bessey to Jorgies and all types, including parallel, F-style, handscrew, etc. The DuoKlamp is one of my favorites (I have 5 of them). They're light enough to be put in place with one hand and stout enough to do the do (I've used them for about 4 years). One comment I would like to make about clamps and clamp pressure-clamps are to hold your work piece in place while the pieces are fastened or while the glue dries. If gluing a flat panel, using a sprung joint, the gap may be about 1/32" and virtually any clamp will close that gap. Clamps are not made as a solution for poor joinery! Yes, you may pull the joint together, but it will be under stress, that within a year or two of seasonal temperature/humidity changes, either the joint will fail, or splits will occur somewhere on the wood. The only quibble I have about these clamps is that they are pricey in today's market. ... show more

  • Versatile, but very weak
Great for size, both minimum and maximum, able to spread in small place, clamp large gaps. The description says the clamping and spreading force is 800lbs. The packaging I received says 260lbs and that's exactly how it feels. Its very weak and compares nothing to my DeWalt with 600lbs of clamping and spreading force. Description is inaccurate and the biggest reason I bought this was for its force to separate and hold things. ... show more

  • does not work well
When pressure applied, the clamp slips. It is okay for minor clamping, but for major wood building project that require sufficient force to squeeze joints and apply pressure to glued wood pieces, it slips which defeats the purpose of a clamp. I do not recommend wasting money on this particular clamp. ... show more
