Second to none. I don’t think anyone could find or build a better lawn tool than this scarifying rake. The times are welded stainless steel. This is nice to prevent rusting/oxidation snd harder than normal steel. The tines are mounted in a frame that can pivot depending on if you are pushing or pulling the rake. The angle change is not that much but it really helps. I was surprised. The handle itself is top shelf with perfectly straight grain. The handle is solidly mounted to the stainless head. I don’t know if this should be used or put on display. I have a few other Berry & Bird garden tools and I would make the same comments for them all. The only thing that I worry about on this tool is the durability of the rivets that act as the stop for the pivoting tines. I can imagine that they will take some impact stress. They look up to the task but add dirt and a lot of use and time will tell. I can’t rate this less than 5 stars and hope people recognize the long term value of investing in quality. Bought this to clean the bermuda grass out of our garden bed and get the dirt ready for more seeds. The ratcheting head is very useful for breaking up clumps of heavy dirt as you can pivot right on top of the dirt, back and forth. The tines are a great length to dig into the ground and grass without catching and getting stuck. The handle is a bit thick so if you have smaller hands it might be uncomfortable to use. ... show more

We just dethatched the whole yard with a contraption that we drag behind our Gator (rugged 4wd atv) and then had to do the edges around the curbing by hand with a metal tined L-claw sort of rake (not a fan shaped leaf rake.) These claws are WAY more effective than the standard rake we used. It works a lot easier and is very impressive. My husband, who is totally not easily impressed, especially with gardening tools, was very excited when he tried it. I almost fainted. We will have this forever and appreciate the heck out of it whenever we use it. For dethatching, it’s amazing. I expect I will be using it to work in the garden, too, once we get it established. If you are a gardener, this is an excellent hoe. We garden a lot in raised beds. We used this to smooth beds that had been rototilled to smooth and break up any clods formed by the tiller. I also used this hoe to make furrows for planting. Since I didn't want to plant as close as the tines were, I simply planted in every other furrow. I had never seen a rake like this before, and it is an amazing rake. (Make sure you don't step on it, as the tines are curved and sharp.) ... show more

Pros: Sturdy. Very good quality. Cons: Handle a bit rough. Other thoughts: This is exactly what I need for my yard. A strong rake to remove all the leaves. Handle is a bit rough but I used my gloves so I had no issues handling it.

Our side yard is Meyer Zoysia and has to be dethatched a couple of times a year, and this rake did a nice job with that. It is also great for leveling soil. The Berry & Bird rake is top notch... beautifully crafted. The handle is heavy duty ash and nicely finished... no splinters in your hands. The rake head is expertly crafted stainless steel... highly durable. Yes, there are less expensive products on the market, but not of this quality.
