My daughter is 4.5 years old currently and has an average sized head. We bought this helmet last summer, but it was way too big, so we put it away for this summer. It is the right size for her this summer, but no matter how many times I adjust the straps to make sure it is riding correctly, they loosen and the helmet falls off her head when she nods yes. This means there's no way it would stay on her head in a crash. The only way I've gotten it to stay on correctly is if the chin strap is uncomfortably tight for her. There are no foam pads to adjust the fit, and to adjustable section in the back of the helmet that I am used to seeing in my helmet and the helmet she used as an infant. I am not comfortable with her using this helmet and will be buying a different brand today. ... show more

I recommend spending the extra few dollars for a helmet with an adjustable knob on the back. Without that, it's nearly impossible to get a snug fit.

It fits on my sons 5 year old head but am not 100% satisfied with how well it stays in place, it tends to shift backward on his head. The strap design isn't like my adult helmets have been, these are dependent upon one another which makes it difficult, for me anyway, to get an appropriately snug fit. It isn't enough for me to run out and get a new one but if you are strongly concerned about quality of fit, maybe consider another model or even hit a bike shop to do trial fittings. ... show more

Bought this helmet for our daughter's 6th birthday and she loved it. Fit is very good. A little tricky to adjust the straps, but as with all kids helmets, that's good because once adjusted, they stay that way and don't loosen up. I would definitely recommend the Bell Edge helmet to others.
