This Belkin wall mount 918J surge protector and outlet extender is very well constructed. As I read mixed reviews I decided to buy one to see if I liked it, and after a week I decided to purchase two additional units for increasing the outlets in a couple rooms in the house adding the surge protection. The rotating plug splitter rotates almost in a 360 degree angle, I did not experience any issues with the rotating plug getting stuck. The little green indicator light does not bother me at night and I like it to know that the surge protection is active and working. I wish they could make a 2-prong to 3-prong UL listed surge protector in the future as we have an old house and not all outlets have been converted to 3-prong grounded outlets. The wall mount surge protector stays in position, have not experience movement or "falling" / "tilting" due to its weight. My guess is that if this happens, it might be attributed to the outlet itself. Look at the pictures, it holds the weight of an Anker Prime 67W charger with ease. The best part is that this Belkin wall mount surge protector is UL (Underwriters Laboratories) listed, meaning it was third-party tested in an internationally recognized lab. ... show more

This review is specifically for the BSV602 model of Belkin SurgePlus surge protectors. Amazon seems to have lumped all SurgePlus reviews (at least 4 different models in the product series) into one listing which can create confusion. In any case, that has no bearing on how much I like the actual product itself. I needed a couple of these to expand the number of outlets on both sides of the bed due to the ever increasing number of tech gadgets in the household (not including old standards like bedside lamps and baby monitor). These two units were installed directly to the original faceplate of the outlets with the included screw and the install time took less than a minute each. The unit plugs into the top outlet and is further supported by a plastic prong that fits into the ground of the bottom outlet. The front of the unit features a green indicating lamp that lights when you are protected from surges and an amber light when you have plugged the unit into an outlet that is not properly grounded. As far as performance itself, it is important to note that the unit charges at 2.1A at the 5.0V standard for USB (10Watts COMBINED). This is critical when using both ports to charge USB compatible devices; especially, larger devices like tablets or iPads. Some of the other reviews lumped in with this model indicate terrible USB charging capability. You just have to understand that if you utilize both ports for charging then you are cutting the available 10W across both ports and, at a minimum, doubling your charge time for the devices. For example, the standard USB charger for the latest generation of iPad is capable of 10W. You will only get 5W from a single USB port on this surge protector when both ports are in use. So you've already doubled your charge time (quadruple the time if another device is being charged simultaneously that requires 10W) and this is a minimum if the devices are on while charging. Long story, short - for my needs I charge a work and personal cell phone at the same time and don't notice a difference from charging with the standard phone chargers. The outlets themselves are nicely spaced. If you look carefully into each individual outlet, you can notice how close the contacts are for each prong. This makes for a very snug fit for plugs. Be sure to brace the surge protector against the wall with one hand and to pull from the plug body (never the cord!) due to the snugness. Otherwise, you may damage the plug, surge protector, or worse - the wall. The Belkin BSV602 6-outlet surge protector has provided me with expanded outlets, USB charging capability, and surge protection of my devices up to $25,000. Careful with the warranty though. As a couple of other reviewers have stated, it is only valid if the device is solely connected to this surge protector. A PC connected via ethernet will not be covered under warranty because the surge could have passed through that particular port instead of just the wall outlet. My only thoughts on improving this design would be that the body of this unit be a direct replacement for the outlet faceplate rather than just residing over it. It would be more aesthetically pleasing to see this unit flush mounted to the wall. ... show more

Quality seems quite good. Works great and I love that it screws into the wall outlet so it's secure when you unplug things. The charging USB are handy too. My only issue is that it's pretty big in both width and thickness, so it would be nice if they could make it a bit more streamlined. The location I wanted to use it in was next to the washer/dryer valve opening and the outlet was pretty close to the outside edge of the insert and I couldn't use this there since it was so wide. I had a different surge protector, narrower that worked there and I'll use this one elsewhere, so it's still needed and useful. ... show more

I have always been concerned about surge protection for my electronics when traveling. Sometimes I take corded surge protectors with me, but they are bulky and heavy. So, I recently started looking for an alternative and found several on Amazon. I preferred a known brand, protection of 800 Joules or greater, and, ideally, an Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) seal. I found two Belkin devices that fit my needs, this Belkin protector (with 3 AC and 2 USB ports) and the smaller Belkin 1-outlet SurgeCube (not sure if the SurgeCube is UL listed). When traveling, my charging needs are: laptop (AC), camera battery charger (AC), Kindle (AC or USB), and cell phone (AC or USB). I decided this Belkin Surge Protector (with 3 AC and 2 USB) was the best fit for my needs. But I was uncertain about the size after reading conflicting information. I decided to order it and see for myself. Dimensions. The product dimensions listed on Amazon are: 2.2 x 5.16 x 7.2 inches. These dimensions seem to be for the box the product comes in, which I measured as 1.9 x 4.4 x 7.9 inches. The dimensions of the product itself are: 1.5 x 2 (3.25 counting the plug) x 4.0 inches. It is basically the size of my eyeglasses case. The weight is comparable to my morning coffee mug. So compact, but not tiny. Certainly more travel-friendly than my corded surge protecting power strips. See my photos. What I like. Rotating plug should allow flexibility in using outlets. Indicator light shows the unit is functioning. Ample plug-ins, both AC and USB, to accommodate my needs. UL listed seal. Manufacturer states 918 Joule rating. What I don't like: It would be nice if the plug prongs folded down, out of the way. Rotating the plug is a bit harder than I expected (you do have to depress a button under the plug while rotating), hoping it might get easier with practice. I tried it at home and it seems to work well, will add it to my kit for my next trip. ... show more
