  • Not Bad At All!
At work, I had Roland MA-8's that I really liked. When I went to purchase them for myself, I found that they're not only older than me, but that you can't buy them new anymore. My coworker had these, so I went ahead and gave them a shot. They're almost identical in terms of features and how they look - really the biggest difference is the branding. I personally like the different controls on them for different things. I don't use them a whole lot, but I do find that sometimes I need to adjust the bass/treble based on what I'm doing and it's handy to just reach over and do it. Mine do have a very slight buzz, but I hardly notice it let alone am bothered by it; you have to get right up next to it to hear it. I will say that something in me thinks that the Roland's were just a little bit better in sound quality than these, but these were for sure a huge upgrade compared to the speakers I had before. I have a nice stereo system hooked up to my PC if I really want sound quality, but for general purposes these work really well. A subwoofer would be a really nice addition though. At this price point, don't expect miracles, but I'm pretty happy with them. ... show more

  • Best performance vs price
After hearing many studio monitors demoed at guitar center (when I worked there), I knew that someday I'd HAVE to own a pair of monitors! The high volume and clarity really turned me on to speaker specification and design, I wished I could experience the same clean sound at home with my own content. I came across these speakers and noticed their similar design to a Roland product, I began searching for reviews and other data on these guys. These were in my price range and I went for it... I can't say that these Behringer MS-16 compare to the bigger and more fantastic monitors I've heard before, but they do stay bright and clear at high volumes - I don't think you can get a better set of powered speakers for the price. I had these hooked up to my friends Roland piano, and they sounded very good. I heard a little bit of distortion while he mashed away at some Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2, but we did have them at an enormous volume. I could say we were breaking them in :) These monitors have been hooked up to my computer most of the time, and have provided a very clean and comfortable sound for music, games and movies. I plan on making an adjustment though with the addition of a subwoofer in the future. Don't get me wrong these monitors do have full-range output, but a sub will be handy when listening to some audio types. I most recently played Beatmania through these guys and was absolutely thrilled by their performance! I can really appreciate the game and hear the instruments to play it well. I think these speakers are the best bang for your buck if you're looking for a set of powered speakers. If you're mastering an audio track you may do well with this set. My advice is to go get informed at a decent music store first, then find something that fits your style and budget. I really like my set! ... show more

  • The money's worth
6 and a half years the cord that came with it that's hooks the two together eventually broke and it's as the edge of popping with crackle if you over load it but for $90 when I got these are awesome little speakers they're a loud and also pack good basecome with a 3mm phone jack aux cord

  • Great speakers but not a cheap alternative for studio monitors...
Really great product for home use not for a home studio purpose. Don't let the behinger name fool you. These are not a substitution for studio monitors! You have been warned. Outside of that really nice sound quality, build and sound!

  • Great Deal! Just lacking in bass
I got these speakers for my father-in-law's home office, since he listens to music all day on some junk little computer speakers. I booted them up to test them out before putting them in his office and I was quite surprised! Instruments and vocals sound so crisp and clear. The volume can go very loud and there is no distortion. As I listen to a bunch of types of music I am beginning to think these sound better the louder they go. I am hearing fingers sliding on guitar strings and little things in the music I've never heard before. I am super impressed for the price of these speakers! I was un-impressed with the "subwoofers" and think they should just call them normal mid range speakers. Maybe the break in period will help them a little, but I doubt it will change my mind. This is the only reason I am giving them 4 stars. I have a little TDK A33 portable system and the bass sounds almost as good on low and mid level volumes. Once you go louder these speakers absolutely destroy any of those portable speakers I tried out when I was searching for that type of set up. That is just regarding bass. At every level the mids and treble are incredible. For the price range I think these are an incredible deal! If you love music and want a bargain on speakers that sound like you are almost at the studio then pick these up. If you want heavier bass from electronic, rap, or other genres then you may want to look for a 2.1 system. ... show more

  • Recommended set for any retro gamer with a PVM.
If you’re a retro gamer & you need to grab a good set of speakers but also not having or wanting to deal with the built in mono speakers inside your Sony PVM, BVM (or whatever professional RGB CRT you have) get them! And yes, they’re magnetically shielded (at least mine were).
