  • I'm very happy with this. Excellent sound imaging.
The lower mids (600hz - 800hz?) sound a little "off", something that might be fixed by drilling a hole in the back like someone somewhere suggested. I'm very happy with this system. It sounds excellent and the stereo imaging is great; I forgot how good studio monitors are at confusing you into thinking the sound is coming from where the speakers aren't (i.e., from out of the center monitor for center sounds). Been using Sennheiser HD600s forever, but my only remaining studio monitor finally kicked the bucket, leaving me with no way to listen to stuff without headphones. Decided no more cheap components. I will source the amp carefully (Nobsound Mini Dual TPA3116) and get passive monitors (Behringer 1C-BK). I'm very happy with this purchase. P.S. Yes, it's $79 for a pair, not just a single speaker. ... show more

  • Perfect for home theater surround also
A long time ago I used to work as a recording engineer. During that time, I used a pair of Yamaha NS10m's as my studio monitors because it was just what I was used to. Eventually as I moved on to a different line of work, the NS10's integrated themsleves into my home surround system, along with a bunch of other mismatched hand-me-downs. I never bought a matching set until just last month. I went on the hunt to solve the problem once and for all. First I tried the Energy Take Classic 5.1 set with subwoofer after reading so many positive reviews. Unfortunately the sub was just so weak, it made the purchase unjustified if I couldn't use it. So instead I looked around some more and curiously wondered if I could find some cheap studio monitors that would work and I'd keep my JBL LSR sub. Enter Behringer. $80 a pair. That's $40 a speaker. $240 got me 6 speakers. I only needed 5, so what to do with the extra? Dual center speakers mounted on the wall above the TV, of course. I wired them in series because a parallel config would make a 2 ohm load since these are 4 ohm speakers. That worked nicely, and angling them slightly outward increases the on axis sweet area, so I don't have to worry about where in the room to sit quite as much. OK, so, it's not like these monitors sound like the best money can buy, but seriously, they deliver a lot more than you would expect with only $40 per speaker! I really dislike consumer speaker mid hype, and these have none of that. My impression of them in a far from critical listening environment is that they are clear as crystal and otherwise transparent as my consumer Yamaha home theater receiver drives them. I'm really curious how they'd sound in a more critical space, but I don't have a lot of doubt about being able to mix with them. I'm sure they'd do their job just fine. I am just amazed that Behringer can deliver this kind of quality at $40 a speaker, with wall mount brackets included. My only complaint: spring loaded wire terminals rather than hand screws with banana receptacles. But you can shove banana plugs in them without too much effort. ... show more

  • Great speakers for the money
Great speakers for the money. I have some old JBL Control One speakers that I've been using with a small 8" subwoofer. I love the sound and the JBLs provide a very full and "natural" sound (especially with the subwoofer). I bought the Behringers out of curiosity. The price seemed too good to be true and the specs looked better than the JBL Control One speakers. After opening the box, I could immediately tell the Behringers were not of the same build quality as the JBLs. They were lighter and felt thin and plastic-like. Whereas the JBLs have a nicer weight to them and a rubberized feel (or, at least, a denser plastic). This is, also, noticeable in the sound. While the Behringers have clearer highs, they tend to sound thin because of the thin plastic housing. The JBLs provide a fuller ... more natural sound ... and sound better to me. But, the Behringers are stylish and offer an acceptable sound for the price. At $79.99, it's a good deal! I'm not, at all, disappointed with my purchase. ... show more

  • Not sexy but get the job done every time
These are good speakers. But these are not the best quality or best sounding. I use these for practice and they do the job perfectly exactly as they should. Their a little shrill and no real low end ( to be expected for the size) but that's not what their for. They are a good reference speaker. They are great for practice if you a DJ. They are great for buisneses that need sound in various places. These basically are the f-150 of speakers their not sexy but they get the job done every time. Would I buy them again yeah totaly if I had need for them. If I had a coffee shop or space that needed these then yeah. Their a good speaker. ... show more

  • IMHO
In my experience Behringer is one of the best values out there, I also know their customer/warranty service is fantastic. But my opinion of the 1C's is that you need to remember they are about $30-$40 per speaker. They sound very good but they are not replacements for good monitors. The other thing is that they include decent wall brackets which leads me to believe Behringer set out to build a good little multi-purpose speaker. I'm using mine in a surround sound application, crossed over at 100 Hz, they are ideal (don't forget they are 4 ohms so in a large room, wiring them in parallel probably is a bad idea). So again, Behringer has provided good value, the tweeter protection is a nice bonus, but they are not "studio" monitors. ... show more

  • seems to be good quality sound
We have a non-profit with a recording studio in it so spending lots of $$ on high end monitors is not really a thing we can do. I picked these up and connected them to our recording studio and instantly noticed things in the recording we did not notice before. I will try and come back after a couple months of use and give a more detailed update. ... show more
