I am not one to review, ever, but I wanted to take time to comment on this product after reading reviews and purchasing this item and using it. For one thing, I am not a girly-girl by any means and occasionally will do my nails or go to the salon to have them done. But the salon is getting expensive, never mind tipping. I have always loved gel polish as it stays on for weeks and there is no waiting time to let gel polish dry. I have also wanted my own gel kit so I could just do it myself for a one time expense. I was skeptical of buying a $40.00 product because $40.00 pretty much covers one nail salon visit. This kit is hands down AMAZING. The packaging was neat and appropriate and when I opened up the box, it was like I had my own nail salon in my living room. The tools this came with were the same tools a professional would use. They gave you polish remover wipes, nail clippers, cuticle remover product (which smells amazing) and cuticle remover tools. They even provide a pouch to put all the tools in when not in use to store away. THE GEL COLORS ARE WHAT THEY SAY THEY ARE!!! This comes with 6 neutral gel colors, 2 of them being glitter gels. The UV light has specific settings and timers to customize your experience. This was easy to use!! I washed my hands, trimmed back my cuticles, washed my hands again, applied nail polish remover to dry out my nail, applied base coat (UV for 1 min and 30 sec), applied color (UV for 2 min), applied second coat (UV for 2 min), applied top coat (UV for 2 min). My nails were dry after this method - not sticky or smudgy - smooth and dry! I waited about 5 to 10 minutes to make sure they were set, and I completed a load of dishes (hand washed) and the polish was still vibrant and intact - no chips or smudges, just a smooth, shiny coat. I was impressed after this, hence, I took time to write this review. SO...If I (of all people) can complete this successfully....a monkey could. If you did not have successful results, you are doing it wrong.

I have only used it once so far but it's relatively easy to use, just messy. For some reason I missed that it didn't come with the liquid set or the powder application pots. My fault, so I bought them separately. I knew I wanted to mix colors so I needed them to apply the powder without contaminating the base colors. For the glitter nude 36 count I mixed colors 547, 551 and 557 to make a coral color. I was hoping 557 would add a pretty shimmer to the color but unfortunately that was a bust. Originally when I added the orange it made the color way too orange with almost no pink so I added more pink and more shimmer. I have some plastic containers my boyfriend gave me and they are going to work perfectly for saving my mixed powders and I can actually dip my fingers in them as well for easy coverage. Application: I buffed the top of my nails with a fine grit file and dusted them off. I used 3 layers, first applying the base, then dipped my finger, brushed the excess, waited 60 secs, applied another layer of base, dipped, waited, brushed 3rd layer of base, dip, wait, brush. After the last layer of base dried I applied the activator, waited 60 secs and then filed and shaped my nail. Once it was smooth enough and shaped as well as I could get them since my nails are pretty short right now, I applied 2 layers of top coat. They definitely seem very strong like acrylic but not nearly as thick. I will say the liquid set just smells like super glue which is a relatively strong scent but dissipates quickly and doesn't linger. If they last a few weeks I'll try to update my review and I'll try a different color as well. I have a wedding to stand in in March so I may play around with it to see what I can come up with. This was my first time trying dip on my own although I've had it done multiple times professionally. It's easier than the gel acrylic diy set and less messy. Although I'm curious how creative I can get with the powders. My biggest suggestion is to be patient with allowing the liquid coats to dry. You'll be less likely to have a disaster and splotchy nails if you wait the necessary time in between layers. Dip one nail, dust it off and do the next. While you're applying the coats and dipping each finger it will give ample time to dry.

I’ve had this kit for about 6 weeks now, so I think I can accurately write a review. This kit is a really good starter kit. HOWEVER, get a different set of liquids. I tried over and over to get a manicure that wasn’t clumpy, or that wouldn’t crack in just a couple hours. I couldn’t figure it out. I ordered a new base coat and topcoat (AZURE BEAUTY, highly recommend) and now my dip manicures are FLAWLESS. The kit itself is a great deal. The powders are great quality and beautiful colors. You get a lot of tools to use. The liquids that come with the kit are just terrible, and that’s why I’m rating 4 stars.

I’m letting my nails grow and not going to the salon anymore. Been using this for quite a while now I really love it. Last for a very long time doesn’t lift and they’re beautiful colors. If you follow the directions it’s very easy to do at home. You can have beautiful salon nails at home with this.
