I am a big DIY manicure fan. I usually create my own nails with gel and fine-line painting. The fine-line work is tricky to get right, particularly when you have to use your nondominant hand to decorate your dominant-side nails. I saw these nail art pens and thought that they might take some trickiness out of the process for me. I have to say, I was not disappointed. Here are the pros and cons I found in using them. Pros: 1. They come in a good assortment of 12 colors, and the colors themselves are pretty vivid. 2. They provide pretty good coverage/opacity. If you are just adding a line, you can get away with one coat. If you are trying to fill a larger area, you might have to go over it a second time. 3. They dry quickly, so you can go in and layer on additional colors after waiting less than a minute. 4. They provide easier precision than brushes in many circumstances, particularly for dotting or making non-straight lines with details or curves. I find that a fine brush is actually easier for straight lines, as you can lay it on the nail and swipe, and the length of the bristles does a lot of the work of making the straight line. With these pens, you are only working with the tip of the nib, so you can't get the longer coverage that you can with a longer-bristle brush, requiring more precision and hand control to get a straight line. 5. They remove easily with a swipe of a cloth before drying, and with a quick wipe with acetone if they have dried. 6. While you do have to prime them before use, they prime pretty quickly and easily, unlike acrylic paint pens. I was expecting to have to press and hold the tips several times, but it was really a matter of pressing once and holding for just a couple of seconds, and it was ready to use. Con: 1. While they dry quickly, they do not cure, like gel polish, under a lamp. That makes multi-step designs a bit more risky and difficult. When I am doing fine detailed work with gel polish, I generally quick cure between colors or steps. So, for instance, if I am painting a snowman, I would paint the white body, then cure it before adding details like an outline or the facial features. If you cure between steps, then you can always "reset" back to the last cured step if you make a mess of the next step. So if the body of the snowman is cured and you mess up the carrot nose, you can just wipe off the nose before curing again, and the body will stay put, as it was already cured. You can't do that with these pens unless you move REALLY fast. So if you mess up step three of a design and need to wipe it off, you are OK if you catch it before it dries at all, but if it has started to dry, the cleaning will take off the prior steps as well (unless you have put a coat of clear between layers, but that would really add up in terms of product thickness). So you can't really get a "do-over" like you can with multiple steps of cured gel. Overall, at this price point, I found these pretty easy to work with. They have a good thickness for making bold lines or filling in areas of color. For really fine details, you may need an additional smaller tipped set. They are a versatile and handy tool in your nail toolbox. If you tend to make multi-step or more complex designs, they may take some getting used to, but I think they are worth it.

These pens actually work really well and I have been really impressed with how they perform. All of the colors are very pigmented, so you do not have to go over the same lines multiple times to get good coverage. That makes them much easier to use, especially for detailed nail art where precision matters. One thing to note is that these do not have felt tips, they have plastic tips. I personally prefer this. I also have a set with felt tips, and these plastic tips feel more pressure sensitive. With a lighter touch you can get thinner lines, which gives you more control when working on small details. The colors themselves are very pretty and vibrant. They show up well on both clear and black bases, which is great for versatility. The only exception is the black, which reads more like a chalkboard gray rather than a true deep black. They dry fairly quickly and layer nicely once dry, which makes it easy to build up designs without smudging previous layers. I also had zero smearing when using a gel top coat over them, which is a huge plus. One important tip is that you do need to use a matte base coat before applying these to your nails. They work much better that way and adhere properly. Overall these are a great set of nail art pens. They are easy to control, highly pigmented, and work beautifully for detailed designs with the right base. Edit- These pens do not work for reverse nail stamping. When you try to use them on a clear silicone stamper the ink just pulls together, for example, if you fill in a circle on your stamper, all of the ink will pull into a bead to one side of the circle rather than stay spread out. Not an issue or deal breaker by any means, but if you are looking for something specifically for reverse stamping, this is not the product you are looking for.

I bought these Beetles Nail Art Pens under the impression I was one step away from opening my own boutique salon. The reality? I’m mostly just a person with shaky hands and a dream. Here is the lowdown on these 0.7mm markers of destiny: The "Paper vs. Protein" Paradox The listing claims these work on paper, which is technically true, but feels like a weird flex. It’s like saying your Ferrari is great for driving to the mailbox. Yes, you could use these to write a grocery list, but at that point, you’re just using very expensive, tiny acrylic markers to remind yourself to buy milk. The Physics of the "Sandwich" The "requires UV" part is a bit of a chemistry prank. The ink itself air-dries like it’s 1995, but if you don't "sandwich" your masterpiece between two layers of UV-cured gel, your beautiful floral design will vanish the moment you try to open a bag of chips. The Grip: You need a cured base layer, or the ink just slides around like a penguin on an ice rink. The Shield: You need that top coat to seal it in, or your art has the lifespan of a TikTok trend. Flow & Performance It doesn't exactly have that "buttery" marker feel. It’s more of a "I’m a professional tool, please treat me with respect" feel. You have to pump the nib, pray to the manicure gods, and hope the pigment decides to cooperate. The Reliability Report: Friction: High, if you're impatient. If you don't let the ink air-dry completely before hitting it with the top coat, you will smear your "art" into a blurry Rorschach test. Utility: 10/10 for drawing tiny dots but anything else like lines would usually require the steady hands of a neurosurgeon. Integration: Fits nicely into a DIY routine, provided you have the patience of a saint while waiting for the air-drying phase. Final Verdict These pens are a solid addition to the kit. They aren't magical, but they turn "I can't draw a straight line" into "I can draw a reasonably straight line if I hold my breath." Just don't try to cure the ink itself under the lamp—you’ll be sitting there until 2027 waiting for it to react.

I was excited to see Beetles has their own nail art pens. I've tried others and while they're fun, they're also very messy. These have a felt marker style tip but you press it in to get the ink flowing, much like other nail art pens. These can overflow like others and what I found worked best was pressing in about a quarter of the way then shaking the pen and waiting until the ink flowed down the nib. This helped control it so it wasn't such an excessive amount. If you apply to much, it doesn't look great and will not dry quickly so it's best to get as thin a coat as possible. These have great color opacity and are pretty easy to draw with. The box suggested painting over a matte gel and then topping with a gel top coat but I wanted to see how these applied over regular polish. I tried on both a naturally matte finish and a top coated nail tip and it worked on both. Top coating with a regular coat worked well, I just floated on a coat and had no bleeding. The box also says you can used these on paper so I tried it out on my paper towel and it did work pretty well. A couple of quirks in my box. My green was already down in the nib and my purple nib was practically falling out. I was able to push it back in ok though. Overall these are cute and better quality than other pens, as even though a lot of ink does flow, it didn't get all over like others I've tried. I also love that it comes with a case to keep them organized.

As someone who does a fair amount of nail art (ampdnails2022), I have previously bought the nail markers with the very fine tip from the same brand. I had no complaints with those, so I wanted to try these because these are more like the tips on my Sharpie markers. You get the colors that are shown in the photos online and they are all nice and vibrant. The markers come in a plastic case that latches closed, which is a bonus for me because there's less of a chance I'll lose them. When you first use the markers, shake it a little bit and you'll hear the clinking sound of the ball inside of it. You'll have to lightly press the tip a few times to get the paint to come down into the brush area and you'll be able to see it when it's ready. After you do that it pretty much activates the marker and you won't have to do that every time. The paint comes out nice and smooth and the colors do look fantastic. They're easy to use because it's just like using regular markers, just on nails. The silver and gold markers are actually metallic looking and give a nice metallic finish to the color, which I wasn't really expecting. When it comes to metallic paints, most of them are finicky and don't have the same metallic look they do when first applied. These markers are definitely a step up for metallics. I'm hoping they'll come out with a set of these nail markers but have all of them be metallic colors because if they are anything like these, they'll be the next set I would jump at. Once you are done drawing, I put mine in the lamp for a full 60 second cure and haven't had any issues. They turn out exactly as I want them to. Then I use my topcoat on the whole nail and it makes it look like they're painted. If you didn't know markers were being used for these nails, you wouldn't even notice a difference because it looks just as smooth and good as using gel paints. Overall these are a great choice for nail markers and they're definitely a good value for the price.

These Beetles nail art pens are actually pretty useful for simple nail designs at home, especially if you don’t want to deal with brushes or gel tools. The 0.7mm tip makes it fairly easy to do lines, dots, and basic patterns, and the colors show up well once the base coat is dry. They dry pretty quickly which helps avoid smudging, but you do need to work a bit fast or go over areas again if you pause too long. They’re beginner friendly and feel easy to control, kind of like using markers on your nails. They’re not super professional level for really detailed art, but for DIY designs and quick nail touches they work well and make things a lot easier.

The nail art pen is a great set for beginners or non-professionals to enjoy nail art. The fine tip is very helpful to draw something in details such as polka dots or fill-ins. My wife was testing the nail pens with her nieces and they had great time. They didn’t apply matte coat and perhaps that makes it slightly challenging for the kids at the beginning but slowly get a hang of applying them. Relatively fast drying speed within few minutes, and better to protect the nail art with top polish. My wife intends to buy matte polish later and hoping to get better results next time.
