The good: The Orange metal case really looks great. The CPU is really fast. Things compile so fast (A full linux kernel build took just over 2 minutes). 10GbE network connected without issue, and negotiated at ful speed (uses 'atlantic' driver) Unbranded (as far as 'nvme list' cares) NVME seems to get around 2.8GB a sec. By default it boots up with a 32G/32G split between memory for the OS / GPU. (I worried at first when 'free' only reported 32G that I'd been shipped the lower spec model, but dmesg shows the amdgpu 'steals' 32G) Haven't heard the fans kicking in yet, but that might be because I haven't pushed the GPU hard enough yet (see below) The not so good: It takes a really long time (several minutes) to boot up. No idea why. I'm going to do a reinstall at some point and see if it's just the default install at fault. After going through the initial Ubuntu setup (creating a user account, setting timezone etc) which takes just a minute or so, it puts you at a desktop. If you're expecting to buy this and get going with Openclaw in minutes, you're in for disappointment. If you're not comfortable with doing a lot of CLI work on a Linux system, avoid. The card in the box says the homedir should have a document explaining how to set up Openclaw. My homedir was empty. Exploring I found there was an openclaw install. Running it, it complained that the openclaw config in my homedir was invalid. I ran various combinations of openclaw update/setup/doctor, and it eventually started. It was configured to use qwen-3.5-9B-Q4_K_M. Just sending a 'Hi' prompt to the agent churned for around 40s before it responded. I asked it "Tell me about Vitamin C" and it sat there thinking for about a minute, then started outputing its answer. It feels pretty slow watching. it. speak. one. word. at. a. time. I asked a follow-up question and got "context overflow, use /new to start a new conversation" It frequently spits out "This response is taking longer than expected" while its 'thinking'. I wasn't expecting Claude levels of performance, but it's pretty miserable. Given the model it ships with is only 5GB, I'm not sure where the rest of the memory is going. With 2-3 simple questions, the context window/kv cache shouldn't be eating up that much. I did find that using the llama.cpp web interface on localhost:8080 it performed a little better than it did when in openclaw. That reports that it gets around 12 tokens/s. I think the hardware is capable of better than this, so my suspicion is it's only doing CPU inference by default. This is what I mean by "be prepared to do a lot of hand configuration". Once I have a fresh install, I'll reevaluate and try some other models. It'd be nice to actually use the AI functionality for some stuff, but it's useful to me even as a fast desktop / compile server. I planned on adding a larger NVME drive at some point, but noticed that the screws on the bottom are hidden behind glued on rubber feet that look like they'll be impossible to remove without losing their adhesiveness. ... show more

Still playing with it but I really do like it. The default logical volume is only 100gb so be sure to claim that extra storage. The openclaw version it comes with out of the box is very old, makes sense but a lot has changed. I'm working on getting rocm set up with llama.cpp to try and fully utilize the npu. Lots of stuff to do. But it's a really good minipc for the $$. It's a hobby box for me and I'm not an expert at AI. Oh and I read there's a dynamic way to adjust what goes to system ram vs video ram but I did it through the bios and that's worked well for me so far. 16gb system, 48gb gpu. ... show more
