  • Velo 2 - perfect touring companion
I purchased the Beeline Velo 2 for a 14-day cycling trip between London and Edinburgh. In the past, I would plan the route in Komoot and use my iPhone to navigate. This time, I decided to try Velo 2 for its simplicity and to avoid having my expensive iPhone attached to the handlebar and taking daily abuse. I was THRILLED that I gave Velo 2 a try! Full disclosure, I did NOT use the Beeline app to create the daily routes. I am really comfortable using Komoot to plan my routes, though I could have easily done the same in the Beeline app. Once I created 14 daily routes, importing them into the Beeline was a snap. Each days’ ride showed up in the "Ride" tab, so it was just matter of selecting the day’s route and heading out. I put my iPhone in airplane mode to save battery life and off I went. My riding buddy also had the routes and used his Wahoo to navigate. 99% of the time we were in agreement when to turn (and there were a million turns each day), and I would say Velo 2 was more likely to be correct. Each day we rode down a combination of paved, hard packed gravel rails-to-trails, and even a few spots along the eastern coast that could be called walking paths. For me, the Velo 2 simple display is pure genius. It gives you just enough information to easily anticipate turns, and an audio cue that is nearly perfect. My only tiny complaint was I am getting hard of hearing and wish the audio turn que was a bit louder - but it’s perfectly fine for most riders. Originally, I thought the audio que was coming from my iPhone but only realized that wasn't the case when I let my buddy try out the unit on his bike and realized the sound actually came from within the Velo 2. As you can guess, it rains a lot in the UK, so the Velo 2's water resistance was tested for many hours. I never had a problem. Not quite sure if it is in fact waterproof, so I don't suggest you forget to take it out of your jersey and run it through the washer - which I almost did! The claimed battery life of 11+ hours seems correct. We rode most days from 8:00 to 16:00 and the Velo had more than 50% battery life left. I charged it each night, so I never actually ran it until it died to find out the true battery life, but from my experience, 11+ hours seem reasonable. In summary, I LOVE the Velo 2 and will continue to use it as my cycling computer. Some reviewers had less than perfect experiences with their Velo 2, but my 14-day, 8+ hour per day, rainy, sometimes bone jarring ride, has sold me. I hope the developers at Beeline resist all attempts to make it more complicated. Its beauty is its simplicity. If you want a detailed color moving map, heart monitor, altitude, etc. then Velo 2 is not for you, BUT for the rest of us, it is an amazing solution. ... show more

  • Great simple little bike navagation computer
If you want a simple little navagation computer, it is perfect. The app is easy to use, pick your destination, and it will guide your way. Because its not a touch screen and has actual buttons, its easier to use while riding your bike. The battery life is reasonable. It does notify you when you are approaching a turn with a few beebs, but if there is a lot of background noise you might not hear it. The one extra feature I wish the app would have is create a route in which you position at a starting point and miles and it will create a random ride.. It does have a compas general direction Mode but if you like the visual directions the previous model had, you might be disappointed. It would be great to pick your style of navigation. My complaints are so minor, I still give it 5 stars. ... show more

  • My biggest gripe is the limited mounting options
I have an E-bike tricycle and a mobility scooter that I wanted to use the Beeline Velo 2 bike computer on. They only give you one mount and that takes more than an inch of space on the handlebars which is too much room for both scooters as they both have very short handlebars. To solve this issue, I designed a Beeline Velo 2 to Garmin Quarter Turn adapter and printed it out on one of my 3D printers. Besides saving room on the handlebars, it allows me to place the Beeline at a better viewing angle and supports a Garmin mountable headlight on the same bracket. If you have a 3D printer, you can find that on Thingiverse if you do a search for "Beeline Adapter". It seems like the battery usage is calculated instead of measured on the Velo 2, as I have USB-C right there on my handlebars of the E-bike and can just have it plugged in while using it. Despite this it registers as losing charge as you ride until you do a device restart on the app. And if you try to use it when it is fully charged it often cycles between the battery charge screen and the main screen. They should really fix this with a software update. I also noticed that bicycle paths newer than about 5 years aren't offered for navigation. Instead, the navigation software directs you to busy streets even when a newer bicycle path will save you miles off your trip. This is the exact opposite of how you would expect navigation designed for bicycles should behave. I think this is due to Google maps prioritizing for roads over bicycle paths. If you wear sunglasses and earbuds as you ride it may be difficult to see the screen or hear the navigation beeps. It looks like they might have a solution, but it involves a paid monthly subscription to a service that allows Bluetooth audio from the app. It feels like that service should be a freebie to me. The GPS seems to come from your phone rather than the device, tying the device to your phone for navigation. And to function as an odometer, it requires you to record and save all of your trips. There are benefits to this though. Because your phone can do GPS with Wi-Fi signals, you can actually get velocity and tracking info when you bring your mobility scooter inside a store. But bottom-line the best thing about the Beeline Velo 2 is the look and feel of the actual device. It's so slick that all the shortcomings I mentioned are forgivable. ... show more

  • Bike GPS.
Works perfectly. Fee free. Satellite GPS mapping and super easy to use. Has a app to load routes. Or just use the app. But my phone is busy with other apps open. Helps find bike safe routing!!!

  • Disastrously lacking
I purchased this for Mountain biking, only to find out it’s NOT capable of mapping trails. And also the build of this is soo flimsy, setting it up using buttons feels like it’s going to fall apart. They got one thing right though , it’s the design, it looks good. But what good is it if it’s not sturdy, not trail friendly at all. ... show more

  • Good bike computer
This seems to be a very well-made piece of equipment. I enjoy using it but do have a couple of complaints. It comes with no instructions or tutorials so you have to just figure out how things work. I keep touching it wrong and end up turning it off or being on a screen I don’t want and not knowing how to get back to the one I use. Very frustrating unless you are someone who just intuitively knows how to work these things. ... show more
