Lately, I’ve had some issues with bedding and clothing being marketed as cotton and then being something else when I get it, which is making me a bit paranoid with shopping online. I wasn’t planning on using the shams, so I did a small burn test on one of them. I’m happy to report that the fabric on the top of the sham (same material as bedspread) is definitely cotton, and the batting is high enough percentage cotton that it burned instead of melting (and smelled like cotton when burning). I need breathable natural fiber bedding or I have issues sleeping, so I’m relieved this appears to be fully cotton. It’s lightweight but still has just enough weight to feel like I’ve got a blanket over me. I laundered it, and it’s a little stiff right now, but I’m sure it will soften up with use.

After trying several bedspreads, we decided to keep this one because it was thick and beautiful and had matching pattern on the back. It also matched the pillow covers well and had an extra large size even for California king.

This cotton quilt is well made. The edge sewing is neat, tidy, perfectly straight on the runs, and nicely rounded on the corners. The quilting is done in a pleasing pattern, is without snags, and has no excessive hanging threads. When the quilt came it was stiff and not very soft. After washing and drying the quilt was pliable and had a lovely softness to it. I know from experience that these types of quilts will just get softer and more snuggly with use and repeated washings. Initially, it washed up easily but drying was a bit more taxing. I tried to dry it on low to avoid potential shrinkage, but it just wouldn't dry properly. I eventually switched to a medium dryer temperature and it then dried appropriately and suffered very little shrinkage. I routinely size up when buying cotton quilts in order to get a generous size and allow for some shrinkage. I put this king size on my queen size bed and it is very much to my liking. There is actually enough to come down the sides in the manner that I prefer. The quilt and matching shams look beautiful on the bed. The pattern is fantastic for its versatility. The colors range from brown to grey with everything in between. You could pair this with tan, grey, dark brown, taupe, and even that popular modern farmhouse grey/beige color. The print itself is kind of dark and it does make it look a little on the less expensive side, but again I know that this will improve with time. The dryer has a tendency to fade and dull these cotton quilt prints- but in a good way. I am very pleased with this quilt set, and would order it again without hesitation. Great buy.
