Works perfectly to lift Deer Hunting Ladder Stand – but need extra parts … This is a high quality two way ratchet operated web strap winch with two gear ratios. Everything worked fine out of the box but I lube stuff up before field use. I have heard of people spraying WD40 everywhere as a lubricant but WD40 IS NOT a lubricant. Besides you do not want to get petrochemicals on the synthetic web strap which may destroy it. The winch mechanism works perfectly to lift up and position a Deer Hunting Ladder Stand but you need lots of accessories. I made a tree mounting bracket, with a ratchet strap, to hold the winch as high up on the tree as I could comfortably reach. I also used store bought pivoting and anchoring ladder stand feet. There are lots of instructional videos you can watch showing lifting and positioning a Deer Hunting Ladder Stand using such a web strap winch. You can find complete ready made Deer Hunting Ladder Stand winch systems here on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Muddy-Ladderstand-Installation-Hoist-Black/dp/B00WOLOQ62 I did not work by myself, all by myself, way out in the woods like shown in some of those videos. This came with no instructions but as it works the same as any other type of winch, it should be pretty easy to figure out. It appears sturdy and well made, it is a very heavy piece of equipment. The rope does appear a bit thin, I'm not sure I trust the 1600 lbs rating. I'm sure they did test it at the factory and it should work, I did not have that heavy of a thing to test but trying it on a large fallen tree it did hold up. But I'm a bit anxious using it on more important things, so will be swapping it with a thicker strap I have at home. The winch itself works smoothly. ... show more

First off - I do not have a boat. What I do have are a bunch of yard machines that periodically break down and I am unable to hand load them on my utility trailer when that happens, especially when they are 1/4 mile from the garage. I was just going to mount this on the tongue of the trailer, but reading another review gave me the idea to mount it on a plate that I can move between the trailer and the tractor (or even the receiver on the truck) to use to pull other items. So far, the winch works as expected, smooth action, good quality strap & hook. Make sure to lube the winch periodically, especially after wet use.. Not a bad idea to keep covered when not in use to minimize sun damage to the strap. ... show more

    • Does What a Winch Should Do

I replaced an older, smaller winch on my boat trailer, and I love this winch. It takes less effort to pull my boat on the trailer, and the longer handle on the winch adds extra leverage. I also really like the release lever for the winch. So much easier than my old winch. The winch did not come with instructions, but installation and use is intuitive, so I did not really need them. The winch seems to be made of high quality materials, so I expect it to last a long time. I will update the review if any issues develop after frequent use. ... show more

It’s a basic winch and it’s super inexpensive. Mostly painted, I suspect it wouldn’t be ideal for saltwater. But up here it’ll last as long as anyone needs it to. Strap feels good, nice material. Easy to pull out and in. It’s a single speed winch and would be perfect for any smaller freshwater boat.

This a well made winch. It shipped and came packaged well. Sometimes the handles can get bent in shipping but no issues with that here.
