  • Not quite as good as Noctua, but performs very well.
My real-world experience with the BeQuiet "Slim": I've been building my 3D workstations with Noctua CPU Coolers for more than 12 years. Excellent performance, build quality and technical support. But, they're expensive, HUGE, and let's face it. FUGLY! Babypoop brown and fleshtone may look fine lurking in a dark case, but will never look good behind glass side panels! My most recent build needed to be relatively low-cost, and I wanted to *actually* have access to all the RAM slots without removing the CPU fans and/or the cooler. So, I switched to the BeQuiet Slim. Smaller size, easy access to RAM slots, and looks very cool in black. With the BeQuiet cooler my AMD RyZen 2700X (modestly overclocked to 4.125MHz) is stable and fairly quiet. CPU temps are hovering around 70 degrees celsius under continuous heavy 3D rendering loads for *days*! It bears mentioning that I have four 140mm high output Noctua fans (in Grey) in the case, as well as an additional Noctua "puller" fan on the BeQuiet Slim. Cheers! ... show more

  • Very effective cooling (Ryzen 3700X) and nearly silent.
I built my system 2.5 years ago with the stock AMD Wraith cooler. Cooling was quite adequate, but fairly loud. Recently I began getting high temperatures and the cooling fan was ramping up all the time - turned out the cooler mounting bracket just snapped. Rather than just get replacement brackets (which might well break, being a cheap and dumb design), I opted for the Dark Rock Slim unit (on the BeQuiet! website it indicates the normal Dark Rock model would interfere with my RAM slots on this motherboard). Installation was a bit awkward, mostly getting the fan clipped to the heatsink, because of power cables and the mobo being mounted in the case. Typical new-build would be a snap if the heatsink & fan were installed before placement in the case. Still, not terribly difficult as it was. This thing is almost inaudible up to about 60% and non-intrusive up to about 80%. Because this thing cools so well, I don't need my fan curve to go anywhere near 80%. Tip: (Windows) get Fan Control by Rem0o and tune your fans. It's a great little program with many features. ... show more

  • The best air cooler
Cooling performance insanely good, pleasantly silent, compact so you don't have to worry about weight, gentle mounting for motherboards, doesn't obstruct ram (on most motherboards), relatively easy to install, pleasantly plain design, and it's black. Literally the best air cooler you can get right now. ... show more

  • Nice piece of equipment
This unit needs to be assembled before it can be installed. After some initial trouble with that my daughter watched a short you tube video and was able to quickly assemble and install the cooler. Very quiet and so far it performs well. Make sure you have enough clearance in your case before adding thermal paste and mounting the unit. Thermal paste comes with cooler. Use that or one of your own choosing. ... show more

  • It does exactly what I want it to do.
I've been using an AIO for the past 10 years, and decided to switch to air cooling for a new PC. The mounting system can be a bit of a pain (I really do not like those fan brackets), but it goes in fine, and it doesn't block physical access to the memory slots. I'm using it with a Ryzen 7600x and MX6 thermal grease, and everything is working fine. Noise does pick up under heavy CPU load, but it's not bad, and it cools the chip pretty quickly. On a Ryzen 7600x I would consider this good enough for audio recording. If you want better noise performance you're either looking at liquid cooling, or a bigger air cooler that will almost certainly block physical access to your memory slots - which means you can't do anything with the RAM unless you physically remove the CPU cooler. With this, you still have access. You can still see the RAM., and you can still add or remove RAM sticks. It doesn't block anything. It looks nice. Whether or not you should buy this depends on your particular use-case. I don't consider CPU cooling a one size fits all thing - it's going to depend on what you personally want from a CPU cooler. ... show more
