I have been using this purple shampoo for years. It is a very dark, violet-blue color, which cancels out orange/brassy tones in hair. I have used this product when I was a platinum blonde and when I returned to my brunette hair with blonde highlights. As you use the product, it gradually tones the hair. For my blonde highlights, it maintains a cool ash blonde tone. If I leave it on more than four to five minutes, then it will take on a silver/purple tone. It will eventually wash out if you stop using it. It does stain my fingernails, so minor scrubbing removes it. If shampoo is spilled and not removed/rinsed off, it will stain the shower. Eventually the stain will wear off. I really like this shampoo as it maintains the blonde tone that I love. I recommend this product highly. ... show more

I have my hair highlighted to 9c level. I also live in a area with a fair amount of minerals (iron ore) in the water. This keeps those cool highlights looking salon fresh. I use it every other shampoo. It IS a deep purple coming out of the bottle but I’ve never had a issue with it depositing that color on my hair or staining my hands.
