When it arrives it needs cleaned, it has a terrible smell that washes right off. Then it needs oiled badly. I poured olive oil through mine several times, and wound the crank several times to oil the grinding gears, and also had to heavily oil and work the door that slides back and forth where you add product to be ground through, it would barely move. But now it is very cute, clean, and moving well… well worth the price and little bit of love put into it. Update flaxseed will not grind through this grinder, kinda saddens me because that’s what I bought it for. I’ll try pepper next to see if it works at all.. I love the texture of the pepper mill grinder. I'm a texture person, and this pepper mill is full of texture. The pepper itself is ground fine. I started with rice like instructed and I filled it up, so it was a little hard to get turning at first, but once I started getting the rice down the easier it was to turn. From experience, I say start with a little and work your way up. I love that it has a little scoop with it to fill the slide at the top with the peppercorn. Not only that, but the bowl at the bottom that catches the ground pepper is decorative and easy to separate from the grinder to get your pepper out. ... show more

Very small but beautiful and grinds the pepper very well. The canister/cap at the bottom, you can just grind into that or take it off and grind directly onto doors. My hand is bigger than the shaft once the cap is removed.

This product was recommended by a couple different coffee pages for grinding Turkish coffee. I don’t think it gets a fine enough grind after adjusting. It’s neat little grinder, it just takes a very long time to get enough coffee ground. My electric espresso grinder does a finer grind than this.

For the price, this is a 5 star item all the way around. I have spent the same and gotten a lot less in the past. I especially like the collection bin at the bottom. The ground collection bin is divine, especially for storage. No mess in the cupboard. Great for my RV and Travelds Why the 4 Stars? 1. Time consuming to adjust the coarseness of the grounds. You basically have to pick your preferred coarseness setting and keep it there before you start cooking. It's work to change ground settings; impossible to do as you cook. 2. I love the grinder handle. I have large hands, so It's a little challenging to hold the body if you have the collection bin attached. Best to set it on the counter while the collection bin is attached. With the collection bin detached, I was able to grind effortlessly. If you don't have Herman Munster hands, you will probable not have the issues that I had. ... show more

The base does not easily stay on like one would think it would. Holding the grinder in one hand and turning the crank with the other, after 3-4 turns the base begins to separate from the grinder. I have used similar grinders without this issue. But it still is a nice addition to the kitchen.

This is a nice piece, it works well but it’s small. It’s a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. Being small means it doesn’t hold many peppercorns and has to be refilled often. It’s also small in my hand. It is well made and functions perfectly. Buy this if you are ok with a very small pepper grinder. ... show more
