Description

The ultimate illustrated guide to all known bat species Bats: An Illustrated Guide to All Species explores bats and their fundamental role in our ecosystems through lavish full-color photographs and lively narrative. From the Giant Golden Crowned Flying Fox, a megabat with a wingspan of more than five feet, to the aptly named Bumblebee Bat, the world's smallest mammal, the number and diversity of bat species have proven to be both rich and underestimated. Nocturnal, fast-flying, and secretive, bats are difficult to observe and catalog. This richly illustrated handbook presents bats' evolution, biology, behavior, and ecology. It offers in-depth profiles of four hundred megabats and microbats and detailed summaries of all the species identified to date. Complete with an introduction exploring bats' natural history and their unique adaptations to life on the wing, Bats includes close- up images of these animals' delicate and intricate forms and faces, each shaped by evolution to meet the demands of an extraordinarily specialized life. • Worth the price. So much information and beautiful pictures. A great book inside and out!
Format: Hardcover
Beautiful book chock full of details and beautiful pictures. Nice read to learn about bats. So much I didn’t know and the pictures carried it with it. Also the feel of matte on the book and quality of interior and exterior were fabulous. Happy to purchase this. So very worth it.

  • Excellent Guide
Format: Hardcover
Incredible resource. Awesome photos to match descriptions. Our 10 year old grandson buried his nose into this guide and had to be reminded he had other Birthday Gifts to open.

  • Bat Encyclopedia
Format: Hardcover
I bought this book for my 15-yr. old autistic son who LOVES bats. His birthday was coming up, and I really wanted him to have a bat book of his own. This book has exceeded my expectations! It is very detailed with wonderful pictures and everything you could possible want to know about bats. My son loves this book! He carries it around with him all of the time, and enjoys informing us about all of the things he's learned about bats. We've been out & about and have seen bats flying around, and he'll tell us what kind of bat it is, and exclaim, "I read about them in my bat book!" If you're looking for a comprehensive book about bats, look no further! ... show more

  • One word, spectacular. It’s a must have!!
Format: Hardcover
If you’re a bat lover than you will absolutely love this book. It shows species of bats that we know nothing about and is very Informative. There’s vivid, close up pics of the bats as well and I’d purchase again for myself since this was a gift for my gf. She’s a bat lover as well and you can get lost in reading about these magnificent creatures. I recommend to anyone. Kids, adults alike. Educational to all willing to learn more about the incredible life on this planet. We’ve yet to discover all species of bats I’m sure! I highly recommend for everyone. ... show more

  • Amazing book
Format: Hardcover
Illustrated reference guides aren't usually this great looking--if they are, they often cost a lot more. High detail images of every bat species with info for each, with general bat information/ecology/biology interspered throughout the book. Great for both kids and adults (the writing isn't simple, but if you were like me as a child you slogged through reference-style books all the same just because you craved animal info), or just as a coffee table book to impress guests. ... show more

  • Very nice book, it's just hard to find things in it..
Format: Hardcover
This is a nice book. It's quite a lot of information. However if you were expecting to use this as a reference book also, it's kind of hard to find anything in there. For example, I went to look for fruit bats so I went to the back of the book. There isn't a 'regular' index. There's a list of common names in which there isn't any 'fruit bats' listed and then there's a big section of the scientific names. So I had to Google fruit bat Latin names. Unless you flip through every page, you will not be able find fruit bats. Come to find out there's 'fruit bats' and then there's 'fruit-eating' bats. Why is this not in a regular index in the back of the book? So if you were like me and expecting to use this kind of as a reference book, don't bet on it being a quick reference. However, if you want to read it from front page to back page and take notes, you're good to go. The book itself is very solid. Paper is very thick and glossy. It has a wonderful feel in the hands. That's why I give it a three out of four stars. It's just odd, imo. Happy batting!😁 ... show more
