Let me start this by saying I'm neither a fan of anime or of the recent DC Batman films both animated or otherwise. I've read every issue of Batman from #1 - #400 and am a life long fan of the character. In live action I thought the original 1943 serial was very good, so was the Adam West film and parts of Christopher Nolan's trilogy were pretty good (although the Batman voice is ridiculous and the rubber suit just looks silly). I've seen a handful of Batman Animated films-- the best one of those was probably WORLD'S FINEST done by Bruce TImm and company. The recent Gotham By Gaslight was mediocre both in the animation and the storyline which was was based on a really good graphic novel. I tell you all of this so you know going in where I stand on Batman as he's been portrayed on film. I'm not a fan of anime either-- although I love the work of Miyazaki. This film blew me away. It's not just the best Batman Feature Cartoon I've seen in a long time, it might be the best Batman movie of all time. The animation is stunning and beautifully fluid. So much better than American animation. I got this despite the poor reviews here on Amazon because things like Gotham By Gaslight and Son of Batman got great reviews and I found both mediocre at best. I don't know if the complaints are based on the dubbed version, but I didn't watch that. I would never watch a dubbed film anymore than I'd watch a pan and scan film-- I watched it in the original Japanese with subtitles and it was wild. Amazing character designs, incredible fight scenes, and a STORY that actually was well thought out and didn't just assume the audience was ignorant (see Gotham by Gaslight and if you don't know who the killer is 10 minutes in you weren't paying attention). The Joker and Batman's rogues gallery are suitably creepy and given the feudal era Japan treatment. Yup, there are giant robots too-- because this is Batman as a Japanese character and that pop culture is very much giant robot and kaiju influenced. This was fast paced, beautifully animated, well acted, nicely written and absolutely entertaining all the way through. I am so glad to finally have a Batman film that's worthy of the character. Brilliant work.

The first DC animated feature that's gotten it 'right' in years. My biggest gripe over the past several years (beginning with 'Flashpoint Paradox') is that DC has tried to make the characters look like they're from oriental sources. As a result, the bodily proportions are out of whack (Superman and Aquaman have no necks, and everyone has jowls and slanted eyes), and the animation quality has been all over the place ('Paradox' was great, 'Batman by Gaslight' was embarrassing). 'Batman Ninja' is a Japanese creation...top-to-bottom, and fuses a perfect synchronicity between Batman's authentic character roots, and Japanese storytelling (aspects of sci-fi, and magic both get included). The focus is on Bats and The Joker...and, this Joker is my fave, after Mark Hamill's characterization (the Japanese language version. HATED the Joker voice acting in the English version). The story is full of myth, deduction, introspection, double and triple-crosses...and, some of the flat-out craziest action set-pieces you'll ever see. The direction is taut and sure-handed, the characters' animated avatars are gorgeous, the animation spectacular and the score is stirring. The Japanese voice-acting is thrilling, and I highly recommend that you watch that version with English subtitles. The English voice-acting (which is usually a DC strong point) is more Hanna-Barbera 'Super-Friends', then DC animation. Whether you are a DC fan, a fan of Japanese animated features, a fan of outstanding animation,,,or just a fan of kickass action flicks, this is one movie you should put on your shortlist. Batman Ninja is Batman’s second Japanese anime and its’s about Batman in feudal Japan after Gorilla Grodd builds a time machine and accidentally sends the Bat Family and Batman’s rouge to Medieval Japan. Batman must defeat his Rouge’s gallery which have become Japanese feudal lords and get back to Gotham. The Bad: The biggest question is does this Japanese take of the Batman work? The answer is kind of? The biggest flaw of the movie right of the bat is the choice of Animation. Going with CGI instead of hand drawn. This might be a deal breaker to some as the CGI in scenes can be so wonky and the movement have stuttering low framerate especially in the beginning of the film. To add insult to injury there was a scene drawn at the end credits with Catwoman and the Anime would have been so much better if it was drawn. As this was primarily a Japanese production the dialogue also suffers as this was originally in Japanese, some of the translations can’t be translated from Japanese to English. This is an easy fix as the movie sports the original Japanese audio subbed. The Good: Despite initial setbacks, I enjoyed the film. First and foremost, animation aside the designs of Batman, Catwoman, all the Robins, and the villains where great. It was really fitting and looked good, as a fan of both Batman and Japanese history. This weird mixture ends up working for the most part, it does get to be a bit much when they have the Japanese castles transforming into mechs. Other than that, the Batman being a Ninja works in the most part that Batman is a modern-day ninja. The plot was good too it showed Batman had to adapt to his new Japanese setting and forgo his reliance on his technology, although Gorilla Grodd being in the story is a stretch as he is not a Batman man villain. However, you do have heavy hitters such as Penguin, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Bane, Harley Quinn, and of course The Joker. All sporting the Ancient Japanese aesthetics and Anime inspired designs. The best scene in the movie was towards the end with the final battle as mentioned before there are mechs and the final battle was like watching the power rangers with everyone doing a mech transformation. This is when the CGI animation started to clean up from the wonkiness of the beginning the movement was more fluid and not stuttering as a result the final battle was beautiful done. Conclusion: At the end Batman Ninja will be a mixed bag to people. Some will be put off by the CGI others by the concept of Batman in Feudal Japan. I enjoyed Batman Ninja for what it was it could have been better if the CGI was replaced by drawings like they did in the first Batman Anime Gotham Knights, but it was still a decent DC Animated movie. No where near my favorites, but still far better than most recent animated films. If you can get used to the CGI and Japanese influences, then I can recommend Batman Ninja. If you can’t I would skip it and wait for the next Batman animated film or go back and watch older classics.

No spoilers! I just saw Batman Ninja with my wife and roommate. I had to do a review of it after I saw it. It came out last month, May 8th, and we have been putting off seeing it because the trailers looked like crap. DO NOT BE FOOLED by those terrible trailers. This is easily my favorite Batman movie (Live-action or animated), favorite ninja movie (Even above Basilisk or any Naruto movie), second favorite interpretation of Tim Drake who is voiced by Will Friedle (Cameron Bowen is still the #1 Tim Drake to me), and I have to say Batman Ninja is now my favorite anime movie of all time. (Beating out any and all Digimon movies) Absolute perfection! It drastically exceeded all my expectations. I'm going to be re-watching it again tomorrow in the original Japanese dub. I don't even have any real complaints about the movie, just tiny details I would have changed, added, or replaced. I would have also loved another hour or even more footage to watch, I didn't want it to end. I wish they do a sequel, or even a series if they can. I want to spoil so many freaking details of the movie in this review but I won't. I recommend everyone to see it. Buy it, rent it, pirate it. I don't care. Just about everyone that knows me knows I hate re-watching movies unless I absolutely love them or I haven't seen it in many years and remember it fondly. I'm going to binge on this movie until I get sick of it, if that's even possible lol. I really hope this review doesn't have the opposite effect and raise everyone's expectations too high and then it falls short but I couldn't see that happening. JUST IN CASE though everyone should watch the horrible, shitfest trailer for the movie to lower their expectations again after reading my review XD. Seriously GO WATCH BATMAN NINJA!!!!

A definite treat for Batman and anime fans alike. The concept of Batman, his four Robins, and Alfred being transported back to Sengoku Period Japan by Gorilla's Grodd time machine just feels right. Add to that Batman becoming joining a ninja clan to stop the Joker who has become the Shogun and taken over the country with several of Batman's other rogue's gallery member, and it's just another day in the life of the Dark Knight. The art style is also fun as a mix of computer animation and traditional Japanese art style of that particular time period. It's also fun to see an approach to these characters from non-American artists. Both in their current day and Sengoku attire, it has a uniquely japanese approach that is more fun than it has any right to be. There are even a few easter eggs nodding to both past batman and japanese media. And it's all blended together with a fun, why not energy that adds to the enjoyment and why this film is so much fun.

This movie had some awesome moments, and some moments that really leave you scratching your head. What I liked: The setting of putting Batman in feudal Japan was an awesome idea! As many of the other reviews state, this could have been a fantastic idea. There were points where the animation style changed, some of the changes were very cool and interesting HOWEVER, these changes were so drastic that at times it became very distracting. The plot aspect of having rogues serving as feuding warlords was brilliant. The final battle with the Joker and Batman was pretty good. What I didn't like: I was expecting the main animation style to be hand drawn, the computer animation style had moments where it looked very cheap. As I stated before, the changes in the animation styles got very distracting (and some took away from the story). The giant robots were a bit ridiculous, even if this was modern day setting it would still be ridiculous; but seeing at how a lot of anime is based on giant robots I could kind of see where the idea came from. The movie get even more ridiculous: Somehow an army of monkeys and bats turn into a giant Batman! I didn't know how to feel about that. Overall: This movie is very entertaining, but at times its entertaining for the wrong reasons. The animation style is okay. The giant robots may take you off guard. The giant Batman will definitely take you off guard. The fight scenes are cool. The movie is overall so-so.

Forget what you've read from others this movie is amazing. If you're a batman fan or just an anime fan this movie rocks. It's high octane from beginning to end. First, the story is actually charming and unique compared to a lot of other DC animated films. Enjoy it for what it is and don't take it too seriously. You're in for a silly/awesome ride Next up the animation is incredible. Honestly it's some of the best anime I've ever seen, period. It's really cool and colorful most of the time and the art style translates so well for being a batman anime. Lastly, the music is this movies weekpoint. It's sort of just there and doesn't grasp you like a batman soundtrack normally does. Also, the Japanese voice acting is spot on and fun. I didn't watch it in English yet so I can't speak for that but I do reccomend watching it in it's intended Japanese. Overall it's great don't sleep on this steel book especially for this price.
