C'mon. Reading and following for years. Of course I love his work. Even better that the show has started to follow the story line. Not sure it will continue following book 12 and 13, but who knows.

Was a great continuation of a story of survival horror. Plot development. No rehashing old story lines. Interesting villain(s) situation. Conflict within the walls and outside them. Left off in a huge way...can't wait for volume 14.

STORY (SPOILER-FREE) Wow. The story arc contained in this book, #13, was unexpectedly as much of a page turner as book #12. I prefer reading these hardbacks because it's similar to binge watching. Interesting seeing how or if the TV series follows along the books -- sometimes yes, sometimes entirely different. Very difficult to imagine them being able to develop Book 13's primary plot on the show.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like the fact that it does not seem like the standard reset situation that series, including this one, often use to stay viable, Only 12 people were killed for the border marking, so they didnt lose their homes like the jail scene. The whisperers backed off after their warning, so it wasnt like the negan arc in that the villain kept pressing. Carl is seemingly finally completely out from under Rick's shadow. Lastly, Negan is a main character again. Rick seeks him out for advice, and he actually helps Rick out in that area. Negan gets significant character development in such a short time, yet it does not feel rushed. I am holding off on the 5th star just in case they botch this new chance to advance Negan as a character. Dwight stepped down as leader of the saviors, so unfortunately that leaves ope the possibility that Negan could regress (imo) back to being their leader. Personally, I think that it would be awesome for it to some how end up that Rick is gone in some way and Negan, Maggie, Michonne, and Dwight (who could step back to lead the saviors just to stop Negan from doing it) have to work together to fight off the whisperers. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the Eugene has a Rick telephone situation going on, though this time it could be real people on the other end. Good platform to start from though. ... show more
