Description

"I love Gotham, and it's time I paid her back." Set in a world where the Clown Prince of Crime has been cured of his madness, Batman: White Knight follows the man now known as Jack Napier as he embarks on a quest to heal the city he once terrorized. After reconiciling with his long-suffering partner, Harley Quinn, he sets in motion a carefully plotted campaign to discredit the one person whom he views as Gotham City's true enemy: Batman. His crusade exposes a decades-long history of corruption within the Gotham City Police Department and transforms Napier into a city councilman and civic hero. But when the sins of his past return to threaten everything that he has accomplished, the distinctions between savior and destroyer begin to break down for both the Joker and Batman alike—and with them any hope for Gotham's future. Superstar graphic novelist Sean Murphy delivers an extraordinary examination of comics' greatest antagonists in Batman: White Knight, exploring justice, corruption, activism, and the darkest depths of mental illness. This deluxe hardcover edition collects all eight issues of the acclaimed miniseries and features a special behind-the-scenes showcase of Murphy's character designs and preliminary artwork. Read more

  • One of the best Batman stories, ever
Format: Hardcover
I'm a huge Batman fan, and have been since I was a kid. I love the classic Batman comics, but I also like alternate-universe Batman stories that have interesting non-canon storylines. This one blew me out of the water. I actually did not know that Sean Murphy could also write great comics! I have loved his artwork in other things, like Tokyo Ghost and Chrononauts, but White Knight is by far the best thing he's ever created. The story is complex but clear, with great plot twists and awesome references. I love the character development and design. It's about time that the story finally lived up to his great artistic capabilities! I actually bought the paperback trade for this, but decided that I needed the hardback Deluxe edition for my favorite bookshelf. Can't wait for the sequel to come out in a trade! ... show more

  • Stunning - Not Necessary to Replace Your Paperback Copy
Format: Hardcover
I absolutely adore this DC Label, so I nabbed myself a copy of the deluxe edition when it went on sale in order to match my other editions. However, I had the paperback copy first and this is one deluxe that is not a huge upgrade. We get the new cover, slightly larger page sizes, and the cover gallery, some character sketches at the end of the book. That's about it. So if you are going for shelf aesthetics, you should go deluxe. If you are going for affordability, you do not need to replace your earlier editions just yet. Still giving 5/5 for a killer Elseworlds story. This alternate timeline is a delight for fans of suspense looking for a throwback to the mystery noir era of detective comics. I cannot wait to see how the spin offs continue to enrich the larger story- perfect for adaption into a film, animated or live action. (But please DC stick to animated for now.) ... show more

Format: Hardcover
Awesome artwork and the storyline is great and takes Gotham and the mythology of Batman and his canon of super villains in a whole new way.

  • Binding Issues as mentioned, but the story/art is a marvel to look at and read
Format: Kindle
Enough has been said about the story and art. Buy this book and read it, you will not regret it. The amount of passion and detail that goes into every panel really makes it something special to look at and enjoy. Murphy definitely is a great artist, the story is also very interesting and a unique take on the Batman mythos. However, as mentioned above in another review, the binding is bothersome, since this is supposed to be a deluxe edition. It makes you wonder why DC bothers putting out deluxe editions and omnis if they have bad binding. Sewn binding would have made this much more enjoyable because the art is definitely a key selling point here, and if you can't take it in fully, it affects the reading experience. Other than bad printing/product control, I would highly recommend checking out this book. ... show more

  • Classic.
Format: Hardcover
I don't buy a lot of modern comics any longer. However, this is one that everyone should read. It is an instant classic, and joins the rare Batman stories that stand the test of time, like the Dark Knight Returns and the Killing Joke. Great story & art of a - at least temporarily - redeemed Joker.
