Don't Even Look At Another Two Way Radio Speaker Until You've Read About This One First

Baofeng BF-S112 Two Way Radio Speaker looks very much like the one shown here. Sound clarity good, experiencing no feedback whatsoever even when I talk close into mic to test it out. It has a sturdy clip on the back of it and holds firmly in place when attached to coat. Since it's a two pin adapter it should work well with alot of other Two Way Radios so if you don't have a Baofeng don't automatically think that just because it a Baofeng BF-S112 Two Way Radio Speaker that it won't work with any Two Way Radio you might already have or might be thinking about getting. I think for the cost it's a very good deal and a well put together product and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying a two way radio speaker. Satisfied with quality and it's performance.

What happened? Working fine

I had earlier given this mic a negative review due to a low volume level. I claimed it was worthless to me and I was very disappointed with it. After hearing how low the volume was I just tossed it in a junk pile. Well, I can not explain this, but as I considered cutting it open for parts,I plugged the mic back in for one more try, and it works fine. It has been working perfectly, loud and clear, for a month now. So I figured I'd better update my review, while I scratch my head trying to figure out what may have caused my original bad experience. I can't figure it out, but as of now, this is a fine tittle fella, works good. Others give me a good audio report while using it. Well worth the price paid.

Great mic for the price!

First, it is not as pictured in the main photos. However, one of our fellow Amazoners supplied us with a couple of pictures of the actual item. I prefer the older style , but the new one has features that the other didn't. Outside of the general styling changes are the additions of a red transmit LED and a covered earphone jack. I think its a fair trade off. With that said...... most speaker/mic cost at a minumum $45, so i really wasn't sure what to expect. Because my Baofeng UV-5R+ was of very good quality. I took a chance. I'm glad i did. The build quality is very good for the price. The cord is fairly heavy duty and plugs into the radio without a problem. The cord itself is vey stiff, so i would suggest excercising (stretching) the cord for a bit before you use it so it won't put too much pressure on the stress points. The clip on the back is sturdy, but a little short for my taste, and the ratcheting on the clip is a bit loose. The mic has an ear jac. I haven't tried it yet, but should come in handy. The only problem is that the earphone cover is plastic and molded directly to the mic stress reliever. So if you use the ear jack you may not be able to plug the cover back in. The speaker is plenty loud and clear with litte to no distortion. The mic transmits fine but is a bit directional, but that is on purpose. I'm not a big fan of the PTT (push to talk) button. It works via a heavy and loud click. Sounds like a childs toy, but it really does feel solid and should last...just annoying and surely not stealthy..LOL. I would recomend that anyone with a compatible Baofeng radio buy one of these. They are well worth the money and work just great. the only reason i didn't give five stars is because nothing is perfect....Hope this helped

Everything is fine with this speaker mic EXCEPT the microphone-- the performance is lousy and I received nothing but terrible audio reports. "Again ?" "Negative copy, please repeat" "You're muffled, try again" "Can you get closer to the mic and repeat ?" I took the thing apart and it appears that the primary issue was misalignment of the mic element and the hole through the case to the outside world. I tried to fix this with patience and a dremel tool. It helped, but the audio reports were still pretty bad. I bought two on the same order, both have the same issue. So: Deal breaker, cannot recommend. The PTT is wibbly, it feels cheap and breakable. It worked well nonetheless. The case is cheap lightweight plastic, but again it gets the job done with no problems. The speaker is also okay. The best part is the cable. It's pretty decent quality ! The cable is also the reason I did not return these speaker mics... going through the hassle of returning them so I can get a few bucks back-- and I mean a few, you see how cheap a two-pack of these beasties costs-- wasn't worth the time. Especially since I can unsolder the cable from the speaker mic case and use it to rig up an SSTV cable between my HTs and an iPhone or Win tablet. :-) That project worked out dandy ! Saved a good amount of time and some cash vs. ordering parts from Mouser. Bottom line: Yuck. Cannot recommend unless you need a two-pin Kenwood HT plug + cable for a homebrew project and plan to chuck the rest. I bought two of these mics and gave them every chance and an honest try. I'm sorry to say that this specific model is lousy. I've used other Baofeng brand compact speaker mics that are fine, also have tried the Wouxun and MFJ branded compact speaker mics. No problems with those.

An okay mic that gets the job done

As someone who has worked in public safety, I've had the opportunity to use many different radios and microphones. I didn't expect this microphone to be on the same level as a product by Motorola. After all, I am using it with a $40 radio. First and foremost, it fits the Baofeng UV-5R and allows you to talk and listen to the radio. It's worth mentioning that microphone pictured is not what I received. It was similar and it was Baofeng brand, but not the one Amazon shows. I've uploaded a few of my own photos. My complaints? It's cheap plastic. It feels like it would break pretty easily. So don't drop it. That wouldn't be too much of a risk, except that the clip on the back is pretty bad. It's very loose, swivels way too easily and won't really stay clipped if you move around too much. So no running, jogging, stair climbing, etc. Also, it sounds very tinny. Audio going out and coming in is pretty bad quality compared to most other mics. I've had mics for half this cost that out performed it by a long shot. But the bottom line is that it works and it gets the job done. Update - August 2013: This product was closer to $29 when I purchased it and made the review. At the time of this update the price is about $9. At the current price, I would look past any flaws in the product. But this rating reflects the price that I paid.

It works great with the right listen only earpiece plugged, even in loud environments, concerts (right next to stage) etc, it has also held up through heavy rain and all, just be advised that the rubber protector over the port to connect the listen only ear piece is kind of stubborn, so it can pry against the jack when plugged in, possible making the jack slightly unhinge. Without the earpiece it still work good if you arent in a super loud/noisy environment. Otherwise I am happy with this purchase! And would recommend for folks that work concerts, security, or special events, etc.

Works as needed, and a great price

Bought this unit to accompany my UV5RU or my UV5RA. I work in a heavy construction job, and needed something that could survive a drop, and handle the elements. This unit has in its short life seen everything from snow to mudslides, and still works flawlessly. I do put it in a sandwich bag when I know the weather is bad, and it doesn't seem to affect its ability to broadcast sound, or the mics ability to hear me. It worked so well, that my entire agency (County road Department) has ordered this unit in bulk, as well as the same radios I have purchased (Baofeng UV5R) to use in our day to day activities for each employee. I did all the programming to our frequencies, and have become a firm believer in the quality that Baofeng has to offer.
