They have a slight odor and come greasy but most workout equipment like this comes like that. I believe it to be a protective coating of some sort. The weights are solid and have nice grips that are metal. Just like the weights in every typical gym. Great for everyday use. The only reason 4 stars, should be 4 and a half, is because of the smell. These are really good quality for the price, but goodness me they smell awful. They come all greasy, so have to be washed thoroughly before use, and they smell like a tyre for about a week after unpackaging. All in all, though, happy with the purchase.
