It works, and my new e-bike is a heck of a lot of fun. But the instructions are garbage, and it takes a while to figure everything you need to know, both for the (one time) assembly and for operation. I had to go to YouTube and Google multiple times for various advice. Nonetheless, it’s a great product, so I keep rating at 5-stars. A few notes for the motivated: 1) for cable brakes, if you use their replacement handles, you’ll probably need to rethread the brake cable thru all the tubes and guides, so get at least one fresh brake cable because they’re tough to re-use once ends are scrunched up from previous use. 2) you’ll need to buy a bike chain breaker kit, the one from oumers (within Amazon) is fine. 3) The kit i got had a crank puller and a lower bracket removal tool, good. Unfortunately, my lower bracket was an old standard which required me to take it to a bike shop for help, but that’s no fault of this kit. 4) if you need to make new screw holes in the frame for mounting the battery rack, you should install rivnuts for a solid fit, either with a kit or have a bike shop do it. I learned about rivnuts by accident while watching a YouTube ‘short’. Bicycle frame wall thickness is too thin to make a strong tapped hole, it will easily strip out. 5) in the VD04 controller, and apparently at least some others, the ‘speed limit’ in settings acts frozen. Trick to change it is press “+” and “-“ at same time while in home screen, that will jump to speed limit page in editable mode. Thanks google AI mode. Added Nov 17, 2025: 6) bike shop guy mentioned that really, one should install an ‘offset chainring’ because otherwise, when back derailleur is in lowest or second lowest gear, the chain is going sideways from back sprocket to front, which will erode both chain and sprockets (chainring and back gears). The offset chainring essentially moves the plane of front chainring inwards, to better line up with plane of rear chainring (when it is around middle gear). He recommended 8 mm offset; couldn’t find that exactly but found one here on Amazon with 11 mm. Beware of too large offset, then the chainring might rub on bike frame, depending on exact details of the bike.

My order was processed and shipped quickly within the U.S. and arrived well packaged with everything just as I had ordered it. When I discovered that I would need a couple extra cables, and wanted another item to have on hand as a spare part, I contacted customer service. The response was surprisingly prompt and their customer service agent, Sherry, answered all my questions, provided me links with what I needed, and even made sure that the items I ordered received expedited order fulfillment. Over a month later I experienced an issue with my motor's controller, and I made sure to contact Sherry right away. Even though the order return window had closed, Sherry collaborated with their technician and promptly went to work troubleshooting the problem. She maintained consistent contact with me and the process was hassle free. When it was determined that I would need a replacement part, Sherry once again made sure that the order was fulfilled immediately. Service was beyond my expectations. I ordered the 500w with 48Ah battery to convert my recumbent trike. Installation of the motor was simple, and I appreciated the specialty tools needed to remove my cycle's original crankset being included with the kit. Connection of necessary cables was color coded simple and clean but getting the speed sensor perfectly lined up was a tad fiddley. Successful, just fiddley. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and experience.

While slightly inconvenient, the seller seems to take extra steps to make sure orders will actually meet customers' needs. For this latest order, this process led to them adding a bus cable to blend my old components with the kit's connections. This leads me to really appreciate their attention to detail. This seems to be especially important in working between Bafang's hub motors, legacy mid-drives, and the fitting 'protocols' on their new lines of mid-drives.
