I received the 3 pack, 2 pearl and 1 pink and all 3 looked completely unusable. After emailing their support email, I got a response and they sent out a 3 pack of the pearl oyster mushrooms. After emailing about their mistake but stating I was happy with the 3 pearl they also sent out a pink kit. Very happy with the new kits and the great customer service. I was extremely disappointed with this three pack of oyster mushroom grow kits. The mushroom bricks inside of each kid were full of water, soaked and disintegrating. I tried to prepare one of them, and it did not grow anything at all. The other two kits had mushroom bricks that were not manageable, they were all in pieces and a sopping mess. I had purchased a number of mini oyster mushroom grow kits In the past and they grew beautiful mushrooms, I do not know what happened to these three full size mushroom grow kits before I receive them. These mushrooms are incredible to watch. They are easy to grow and they grow very fast, which was much more enjoyable than expected. They make a cool gift for a plant-sy person or a kid or just a curious person in general. They are totally edible and we had ours in a lovely stir fry! These kits are great for growing mushrooms. Follow the instructions and they grow well. You can even grow a few more a second flush. Fresh mushrooms taste the best. The problem: These larger kits have the same size fruiting block (aka the growing medium) as the Back To The Roots Mini Grow Kit. The only difference is the larger kit has a spray bottle and more colorful and thorough instructions (just look up the instructions online and watch their videos). The mini kits just have the fruiting block and so are a better value. Other great things about the company: They stand behind their product. We got one which looked a bit off (extra spidery white mass covering the bottom half of the block), which was probably an infection. It never grew even after a several weeks, so contacted support and they helped us out right away. Will be buying from the company again. ... show more

Bought this 3-Pack for Christmas. The regular oyster boxes were fine but the pink box was liquid. Emailed BTTR and they were amazing about replacing it after getting the lot number and a picture. New one came in several days ahead of schedule and they started growing quite fast. We're three or four days in now and looking forward to the harvest. I bought this back in December for my dad as a give. I got him one last year and he really liked it. This year every 2 boxes were ruined. The first box didn't grow, was slimy, and smelled like rodent urine. Second one was absolutely disgusting, looking like someone shipped vomit in a bag. The last one looked perfectly normal. It's obvious they are getting these out of a dumpster or something. They all have completely different expiration dates. It sucks because $40 was a good deal. I rather pay the $70 and just get these from the actual business that makes them. ... show more

The pink oyster kit grew very well. I got 5 oz microns from it, which wasn't a lot, but enough to make a dish. The pearl oyster kit (ordered at the same time, grown under the same conditions) however, only produced a little bit in the corner. I contacted Back to the Roots and they said to flip the kit over and try the other side and that I should get 3 oz by the time it is mature. They claim to guarantee 1-2 servings per each harvest (2). But then when you reach out, they don't honor that guarantee. 3 oz mushrooms is not 1-2 servings, nor do I believe that the tiny corner of growth will amount to 3 oz considering the entire box of pink only yielded 5 oz. I'm not impressed and would not recommend this kit. ... show more

I'm rating the customer service here. I had three boxes that were a bad batch (didn't even start the process, they were born bad). Wrote the company. I provided them the photos and the serial numbers on the batches and they swiftly shipped out three new boxes. Super easy. Now I have three boxes all set to go - and they look good. ... show more
