I was thrilled to have actually received this item a day earlier than estimated! I immediately set it up to service our Christmas village. It is perfectly scaled for Dept. 56 type buildings. The set-up instructions are clear and the track, power pack and trolley are very easy to set-up. The trolley is beautifully decorated. It ran a little rough at first, but after less than 5 minutes running, the wheels had polished the track so it runs flawlessly even at low speeds. Bachmann offers a life-time warranty on defects in workmanship, so that is a nice piece of mind. Love the set, and plan to use it every year. ... show more

Runs most days for all December. 2nd year and still runs great. Might jump track every few days but mostly perfect running hours on end.

I was looking for a train to put above my cupboards for Christmas, and with the auto reverse this was perfect. I thought I may miss not having the old looking steam engine, and was worried about the On30 scale, but it all turned out perfect. The trolley is super cute. The EZ track is great to work with. Note that one track intentionally comes with a gap/break in the rail (track B) - it is to be used as the last piece as it signals the trolley to reverse. All in all, super fun! ... show more

The auto reversing train I s a neat idea for small spaces. Escpecially when there is not enough room for 180 degree curves. The train kind of fits in scale with the Lemax village buildings a brings a bit of life to any Christmas village. The biggest pain is the setup. The tracks are hard to connect and the connecting points are of bad quality. If they are not lined up perfectly there will be hump causing the trolley to derail. I had to use my extra strong reading glasses to line up the very tiny clamps and rails since they don't line up very well. The require slight bending to exactly fit. I worked with other railways such as Märklin before and the Bachman trains and rails don't even come close to the quality. But once the tracks are connected perfectly it works fine. Also be careful when using that fluffy snow wool. Don't get it close to the tracks. The wheels like to wind this stuff up then get clogged up and the trolley won't move. I had to clean them up. The bottom pate of the motor can be removed to take the axles out and clean them up. And when you want extend the track be sure to buy the auto reversing tracks. I added 4 more curves to mine. If the track pieces wouldn't be so hard to connect I would have given it 5 stars. ... show more

It certainly was a hit with grandchildren and guests at Christmas! The expense of auto-reversing trains is a little high, but the effect is certainly pronounced. The trolley wheels are very sensitive and easy to derail. They are also somewhat difficult to position back on the track. Patience is needed to adjust properly. ... show more

    • Looks good. Runs intermittently at best.
The trolley looks great. I bought it for a Lemax Christmas display. It worked great for 15 minutes. From then until now, every time you turn around it stops working. I’m not a stranger to model trains. I grew up playing with mainly tyco trains. I never had an issue. I checked the track connections and turned the trolley over and there is black stuff on the wheels. I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and put it back on the tracks. It started working again! Great right? No. Five minutes later it happened again. I cleaned the trolley and the tracks. It worked for another five minutes. I have done this dozens of times. It looks nice as a display but don’t count on it moving much. Disappointed. You’d think a company like Bachman who I used to think was a higher end product. Could at least give you a trolley that works for $215. ... show more
