I bought these for hiking in the spring/summer/fall to keep my pants and socks dry and grass seeds and other debris out of my socks and shoes. They work great for that and even provide some level of moisture protection against morning dew. I would not recommend these for hardcore snow or winter moisture protection. Used these to climb the South Sister, which has includes a lot of screw and dust. They worked as expected and kept the rocks out of the shoes and were easy to put on. One pair was used with hiking boots and showed minimal wear after 17 miles. The other set was used with trail running shoes, and the bottom strap got cut on cut on rock after 12mi. ... show more

These are great! Definitely measure or be ready to size up. With most things I’m XS/S but for these a medium fits well with lightweight layers or is very snug with winter layers. I like that the bottom strap is easy to adjust, and you don’t have to undo a top strap to take them off. The Velcro down the front is almost annoyingly strong. The only other quirk I noticed is the elastic loops (for cinching the top tight) stick straight out, so the clamps on my trekking poles have momentarily snagged on them a couple times while hiking. But only like once every couple miles, so not really an issue. ... show more

I have pineapples, decorative pineapples, bougainvilleas, and some sort of viny, thorny weeds in my yard and needed to keep my legs from getting scratched up when I work in the yard around these plants. I saw these got good reviews are reasonably priced, so I decided to try them. I needed to keep my legs from getting scratched because I use a Quell unit for pain control, which is worn over the calf, and it is not supposed to be used over broken skin. These work great! I've never used gaiters or anything like them before, and thought they might come with instructions like most things do. No instructions were included, but they were easy enough to figure out since I had read reviews and seen pictures from others. I live in a warm area of the country, so I wore them over bare skin most of the time, and over old sweat pants a couple times when the weather was cooler. They worked great, kept the thorns from scratching me even when the bogies tried to fight back and smack and grab me LOL I wasn't worried as much about keeping my legs dry or clean, but I noticed that they did both those things and were cool enough that my legs didn't get all sweaty under them. I'm very happy that I took a chance and got them! Pros: good price easy to use effective against thorny/spiky plants cool enough for warm weather use keeps water and dirt off your legs easy to clean, have only had to brush the dirt off or shake them to get it off Medium size fits this 5'3" woman well, with room to wear them over waterproof boots and sweat pants. Comfortable worn with long pants or over bare legs Easy to get on/off, no adjustments were needed for me out of the package other than the upper string to tighten, which was a one-time adjustment. Con: The lace hook slipped off my boot laces a couple times (they're relatively thin, round laces) - it wasn't a problem for me, but might be for others. It might have been user error on my part, too, maybe my laces were too loose. It could probably be crimped a little bit to fit laces tighter if you need to ensure it doesn't pop loose. Not sure how else it could be avoided unless there's a way for them to make a velcro loop to secure it to the laces instead of a metal hook. ... show more

I knew I wasn't getting awesome gaiters for the price of these so I will review them for what they are. A great pair of cheap gaiters. I took them up an 11 mile hike with 4000' elevation gain in the snow, ice, & mud and they held up just fine. My crampon tooth hit the velcro and tore the thing a little bit but for less than 20 bucks that's to be expected. If you know you're not getting super great gaiters for this price then they are perfect. I'll be buying nice ones later but these will definitely do for now. ... show more

When you measure, you should probably measure from the ground up. I measured from where I thought the gaiters would ride on my shoe and got a medium. The strap that runs under the shoe pulls the gaiter almost to the ground or it doesn't have much velcro overlap to lock it in, at least on my foot. I am only wearing it with a Vibram toe shoe, so not a big shoe at all. An extra inch at the top would have been good so the drawstring would be above where my calf starts to get big to keep it from sliding. Circumference though is good. I am 5'10" at 165#. The next size up might have been a little baggy around although the correct height. Still, it seems like it will do what I need and that is protect me while I am running the string weed trimmer and hiking through the woods fields around the house which are full of blackberries. Now I just need something to protect my hands while I am picking them :-) I will order the next size up next time. ... show more

Kept my pants dry on a recent snowshoeing trip. As other reviewers have noted they run a bit small and I didn't account for the extra width of my boots whew I was picking my size, so I had difficulty getting the velcro aligned and sealed. But that would be easily solved with a size up.

These are great for hiking! They obviously don’t keep thorns from poking in directly but they keep them from scratching you when you brush past them. I wear a woman’s 8 1/2 and had to get a medium. Well worth the buy!
