  • 1/8 wannabe in a 1/10 scale
Cool kit everything but electronics included. Axial didn’t do a good job referencing that they call a 32p spur gear. It’s actually a MOD1 pitch. Overall really fun. Love the 2 speed just make sure to get a reefs 99 for it and a 5mm shaft motor

  • Cool kit
Awesome kit, reminds me of building rc kits when I was a kid.

  • One complaint
Solid kit, just one complaint. The diff gear oil arrived practically empty. Had to buy separately.

  • Kits like this are not for beginners
Axial is a reputable company, and this truck is a great example. Add your choice of electronics to perform how you like. Building the kits has its own rewards, and when you need to work on it, you have a better idea how to get at a problem.

  • I loved putting it together
It was an easy kit to put together. I was worried because I hated my axial scx10 II kit.

  • Fun but frustrating to build and maintain
Overall the build was fun. There are issues with the kit though. There are a couple spots where the manual is wrong about screw orientation. Also, a handful of bags that correspond with a step are missing screws, have the wrong screws, or have extra screws. The hardware is of low quality metal and strip or crack easily. I've had multiple screws fail on me and this is with hand tightening. I have 7 other RCs (3 of them kits) and I have never had such a fail rate for screws. Finally, one of the front shocks leaked. Horizon support has been great though. They've shipped every missing and faulty piece immediately after I let them know. Some additional things to keep in mind. The receiver box is very small, and also difficult to access. I used a castle system with Bluetooth link and aux wire, and there is no space left for anytime other than the essential hookups after getting it all connected. Generic beadlock wheels won't accept the stock nuts nor have enough room to tighten standard m5 nuts. Best solution I found is to use m5 coupling nuts that are 8 to 10 mm long with locktite. To get the best out of the shift function, you need a transmitter that can set 3rd channel end points independently left and right, and adjust center point. Preferably, it's digital where can set numeric incremental adjustments instead of just an analog dial. Update 1 month in: The thing is frail. Front axle housing snapped and the front outdrive got bent from a 3 foot roll/fall off a hill. It was cold out and it did land on just the one wheel which strained it all in one spot. But I have other RCs that survive the fall fine. While fixing that broken axle, the wheel hex snapped and cracked in half while tightening the set screw. I've never seen a hex crack from just tightening a screw in. Trust me, I'm not that strong. Horizon is replacing the housing and the shaft, but they are getting weary with me because of all the stuff that weren't right or broken out of the box during the build. I'm not even going to bother asking for the hex replacement. Seems like the stock materials aren't worth it. Also seems like this rig is going to be a money pit for third party upgrades. Update 2 month in. After a run, a wheel was wobbly. Turns out another wheel hex broke. Went to take out the set screw and it stripped. This is, I think, the 8th or 10th screw that's stripped from this kit. Now it's going to be a pain in the proverbial to grind and cut the hex and screw off without damaging it. It's a fun truck but you sure pay for it from a financial and mental standpoint. Update 2 for 2 month in: I decided to just to take out the two remaining stock hexes and replace them with gpm ones. Another one of the set screws started stripping. Thankfully, I got it out by forcing it a bit. It may be worth investing in a stainless screw set right from the beginning of the building of this kit to avoid all these issues. This is my first Axial build and at this point I'm not interested in another one. ... show more
