  • Wow! This is a game changer for my car!
Color: for Subaru Outback 09-14
So here's the deal, I just bought a 2011 Subaru Outback Premium wagon 2.5i motor. It came with the most basic sound system (NOT the Harmon Kardon). I was watching a bunch of YouTube vids on Android head units and it seems that the only place you can buy the brands that are popular or recommended is on AliExpress. Well, I decided that I really don't trust that site so I went to Amazon (knowing that if there was an issue, Amazon would make it right). I went out on a limb and tried this head unit to see if I could do it and if it really does all it says it does. I am blown away upon first impressions. Ok first the install...the unit comes with two major wiring harnesses and a bunch of secondary or accessory harnesses. You will only need one of the two major harnesses depending on if your stock radio had navigation or not. Mine did not. It was as simple as plugging in the harness to thr main car harness then plugging the other end into the back of the head unit. The only trouble I had here was that the antenna adapter portion of the harness is WAY too short to reach the head unit. I saw this on a vid and was prepared. I purchased a radio antenna extension cable Female to Male that did the trick. There is a blue wire that runs into the adapter and is wired into the harness. I'm not sure if it's to give a small amount of power to the antenna on the car but regardless, it was just as short. So I cut two pieces of wire from the unused harness and spliced it together for extra length. This was the ONLY splicing or non plug and play part of the install. The rest was just matching up the end of the accessory harnesses to the right plug in thr head unit. I ran the external mic thru the inside left "wall" of the open cavity and in thru the side of the leather baffle of the steering wheel. This is fairly easy to do if you put your wheel all the way in the down position. The mic clips on very easily to the lower plastic surround of the gauge cluster. I ran the USB port and wire this way as well because I have my phone mounted on a vent mount on the far left hand vent by the door. The leather baffle hides the wires very well. It is a very clean install. I chose to run the GPS antenna box and it's wire from near the driver door. I used the double stick tape provided and adhered it just below the small dash vent on the far left side just below the A pillar. Then ran the wire tucked in between the plastic side panel of the dash and the metal frame of the door opening. Then ran the wire across the lowest part of the dash near the bottom of the steering wheel. The pry tool provided helped me to hide the wire inside the lower panels. Finally I ran the connection end of the wire behind the center console and up into the cavity for the head unit. That one was a little tricky but a wire fishing rod or even a coat hanger would've made the job easier. Whatever, it all worked out and the wires are all hidden. The fit and finish of the trim bezel is very good. You must remove the vents and the yellow clips from the old bezel and move those to the new one in order for it to work properly and snap into place. I had to smack the upper corners into place but over all it went in smoothly once everything was wired up on the back. Now on to the functionality....wow! It's fast, bright, amazing sound improvement over the OEM and is so versatile. It came to life right away with NO load time. The UI is very pleasing and the ability to customize everything is great (including steering wheel controls). It took seconds to pair with Bluetooth on my Samsung S21Ultra. Then I turned on my Hotspot and that's when the unit really is at its best. You can watch YouTube, serf Google searches etc etc. Just like if it were a tablet. Pairing to the wifi was made easier with the instruction booklet. Follow what they say and about turning your developer option for the USB to USB debugging. Once I did that, no glitches. Android Auto works fast and perfectly. The equalizer settings are great and these OEM speakers never sounded better. Even the FM radio came in loud and clear. It has a function that allows you to see what station and song is being played as well. The main side menu touch "buttons" are able to change color to match your interior of your car. Oh! Calling is a breeze and sounds great as well. You can even have your contact phone book downloaded for ease of use. I honestly cannot believe you get all this and the ease of installation for around $200. It's really much better than I hoped. I'm not a bot and I'm not paid for this review. It is an honest to goodness review and real pics of the unit in my car (the pics don't do the beautiful IPS screen justice). Hoping above all hopes that this thing lasts a long time. If you have any questions, post them in the Q&A portion on this listing and I'll try to make it a point to respond to questions that I can genuinely answer about my install and the unit overall. I would but this again and again based off of first impressions. Best of luck. ... show more

  • Seems Great
Color: Black
Overall I’m really happy with this headunit. People complain that it’s not branded, but I think it’s a plus so there’s not some random unknown brand plastered on the screen. The trim seems significantly cheaper than stock and fitment is good, but not perfect. That’s really the only reason I dropped it to 4 not 5 stars. But for the price I’m happy with it. I would pay about $200 more if it matched the trim and fit as tight as stock. Additional note, I see people saying it doesn’t work with the OEM NAV unit in the WRX. This just isn’t true. I have the OEM NAV and it works just fine. If anyone knows how to disable the automatic backup camera, please let me know. ... show more

  • Overall, mostly positive
Color: for Subaru Outback 09-14
I bought this unit because it has the most feedback and looks like people who installed it are mostly happy. So, I decided to go the least resistance route as well. Fast delivery and well packaged. Installation was relatively easy. Based on comments I read I was expecting that I'll be needing antenna extension and bought it on amazon as well. But during installation I found out that I don't need antenna extension but I need USB adapter to connect to original USB plug inside arm rest. So, If you have USB plug inside arm rest and you want to use it you'll most likely need to buy "Car Stereo Factory USB Wire Adapter Retention Cable Wire Harness Connector Retain OEM USB Port for Subaru Outback 2012-2014" (copy & paste it in amazon to search for the product). Overall, so far I'm happy. I'm a little bit concerned that unit gets crazy hot when I listen to the music. I was suspicious from the beginning as the unit doesn't have any proper heat sink. It's still a riddle to me where did they manage to hide the amplifier. I started thinking of adding proper amplifier to the unit. Will probably make it as another project after I upgrade my wheels and install throttle controller. ... show more

  • Price Bias
Color: Black
2011 WRX. Head unit was just plug and play. No instructions on what harness to use so you have to look at it and figure it out and only one plug plugs in while there is 2 on the adapters. Also had to use the original radio receiver plug but plugged in just fine. The whole install took about 5-10 mins. Super easy. The Headunit itself: Wireless car play took 30 seconds to set up and just worked instantly with no fuss. I have not used any of the base android head unit for anything other than setting up steering wheel controls which was super easy and adjusting the EQ so I don’t know how the Navigation and other apps really work on the headunit side. I never planned to use it like that anyways. When I start the car it instantly goes to CarPlay, and takes about 10 seconds to boot and connect. It just works pretty flawlessly to be honest for what it is. It feels more like a cheaper phone or tablet. The shell is a perfect fit. It aligns up perfect and snaps into place. There is no screws which is fine cause the shell and headunit itself is super light and thin so you just snap it in place and your done. It doesn’t rattle which was something I was initially worried about when I saw it just clipped into place. You have to take the vents for the air off the old shell and place them on the new. Does not come with new ones. ISSUES: The specs have more to be desired at some points. (Like I said. Feels like a cheaper phone.) Scrolling is a bit laggy. Clicking some stuff has a “load” delay. It’s not long or really bothersome. It only has 2gbs of ram so if you attempt to multitask on it at all it will for sure show that. I ONLY use Wireless car play so I don’t really notice anything aside from when I’m scrolling through Spotify to pick a song and the scrolling is a bit laggy. I don’t have a android phone so I can’t say how android auto works. Price: I did not pay full price. I payed just a bit over $100usd. For that price I would buy it again. However it sits around closer or around $200usd for that I don’t think it would be worth it personally. If there is a sale or you have cash back available it’s not a bad choice. ... show more
