  • Great augers for gardening!
Size: 1.6x8.6+3x12+2x14.5+2.6x16.5 Inch
We plant A LOT of stuff at my work and we use these auger bits quite a bit-- when you are buying monkey grass plugs or tulip bulbs by the thousands, it is impractical to dig holes by hand-- and I really enjoy how easy they make a seemingly-overwhelming chore. when this set became available through the Vine program, I knew I had to order them. You need a drill to run these augers, but who doesn't have one of those nowadays?? we have a wide variety of power tools at work, which are different from the ones that I have at home, but all 5 brands' version of a chucked drill will run these augers. The bits have a nice paint job on them, which is fairly pointless, As the paint will eventually come off after use-- quickly , if your situation is like mine, where you have very rocky soil. they appear to be very solidly made , and hopefully will be very durable. There must be a reason why the augurs are so short, which is my only gripe about them. i imagine it has something to do with torque or force in a longer shank would make the auger less stable. A couple of tips from somebody who uses these very frequently: have knee pads or a kneeling board and rest one knee on the ground while you are using this auger, and switch knees when you experience pain or fatigue. standing up and bending over to run the auger will wear your back out very quickly. Also, keep your drill on its lowest speed setting-- if you catch a rock or a root, you could very easily lose control and/or injure yourself (it is very possible to break your wrist) if the auger is spinning quickly. ... show more

  • So Much Easier With These!
Size: 1.6x8.6+3x12+2x14.5+2.6x16.5 Inch
The media could not be loaded. This four-piece set of auger drill bits is marketed primarily for lighter-duty tasks such as planting bulbs, setting umbrella bases, or drilling small post holes. Based on their dimensions, that positioning makes sense. However, after using them in my yard (you can see in my video), I would say they are more capable than the listing suggests. Each bit features a 3/8" hex shaft and comes in the following sizes: 1.6" x 8.6", 3" x 12", 2" x 14.5", and 2.6" x 16.5". The set is advertised as using high-strength steel, and based on weight and feel alone, I can confirm that these feel substantial and most certainly solid. I tested these in my soil, which is classic mid-Atlantic clay and heavily compacted with rocks and stones. That combination is usually frustrating to work with, especially when trying to get a clean hole started. But even just simply pairing these with my 20V battery powered drill, I experienced great results. I actually had intended to use these with my corded drill, but that might not even be necessary! Just using my battery-powered drill, these augers had no trouble biting in and pulling material up efficiently. They excavated compacted clay and small stones without hesitation, and I didn’t experience twisting, bending, or chatter. The included instructions do advise you to start on a low drill speed, which makes sense so you don't inadvertently torque your wrist. For starting holes for shrubs or larger plantings where getting initial depth is the hardest part, these would have saved me significant effort in past projects! They are not designed for digging deep structural footings, and the maximum length of 16.5 inches naturally limits depth. But for most landscaping applications, including bulbs, garden lights, small posts, torches, and general planting, I think these should be totally adequate. In fact, I would consider them somewhat heavy-duty within that intended category. At around $32 for the set, the value is strong. Four solid steel augers for roughly $8 each feels quite reasonable given their performance and expected durability. For anyone doing seasonal landscaping or tackling tough soil conditions, this is a practical and efficient way to make planting and creating small holes significantly easier. 😅 ... show more

  • Turns Your Drill Into a Backyard Hole Machine
Size: 4*12 Inch
Digging holes by hand gets old real fast. This 4 by 12 inch auger bit turns a regular drill into a surprisingly effective little earth moving tool. It is designed to work with a 3/8 inch hex drill driver and the spiral design pulls soil up and out as you drill. For planting bulbs or small garden projects it saves a ton of time compared to using a trowel. Instead of crouching in the dirt for half the afternoon, you zip a hole into the ground, drop the plant in, and move to the next spot. It also works for things like umbrella stands or light duty fence post holes depending on soil conditions. The bit feels sturdy and the length gives you decent reach without having to dig your hands into the hole afterward. Performance will obviously depend on the ground you are working with, but in typical garden soil it should move through the dirt pretty efficiently. Anyone who spends time planting or doing small yard projects will probably appreciate how much faster this makes the job. ... show more

  • Heavy-duty performance, but pair it with the right drill!
Size: 1.6x8.6+3x12+2x14.5+2.6x16.5 Inch
Headline: Heavy-duty performance, but pair it with the right drill! I recently picked up this 4-pack of auger drill bits for some landscaping projects, and they have been a massive time-saver. The set comes with four distinct sizes (1.6"x8.6", 3"x12", 2"x14.5", and 2.6"x16.5"), which covers everything from planting small bulbs to setting garden lights and umbrella poles. The build quality is impressive; they are made of high-strength alloy steel and feel very substantial. I tested them in compacted soil, and they bite in quickly without bending or twisting. Crucial Tip: If you are dealing with particularly tough terrain, like caleche clay, you definitely need to pair these with a high-power drill. While a standard 18V or 20V cordless drill works for loose soil, the density of caleche requires a high-torque or corded drill to maintain steady progress and prevent the motor from stalling. Also, follow the instructions to start at a low speed to avoid any sudden torque on your wrists. Overall, at about $22 for the set, the value is excellent. It turns a back-breaking afternoon of manual digging into a quick, efficient job. Highly recommended for anyone looking to simplify their gardening routine! ... show more
