Description

The ATH-WP900 portable over-ear headphones feature beautiful flame maple housings for high-fidelity on-the-go listening and high aesthetics Maple is a stiff dense wood often used to make string instruments such as guitars and violins Here we’ve fused a thin slice of flame-grain maple on top of solid machined maple to produce housings that ensure clear natural sound quality The flame maple finish provided by Japanese guitar manufacturer Fujigen brings out the unique grain of each housing for a one-of-a-kind beauty that will deepen with age The headphones are equipped with exclusive 53 mm drivers with powerful magnetic circuitry DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating and top-mounted PCB construction for exceptional full-range audio reproduction A specially designed angled baffle improves airflow between the front and rear of the diaphragm for better low- to mid-range audio reproduction and also optimally positions the earcups over the ears for improved comfort and sound containment The headphones also feature A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) jacks for secure connection to the two included 1 2 m (3 9') detachable cables One cable has a 3 5 mm (1/8") gold-plated stereo mini-plug for use with smartphones and standard audio devices The other cable is equipped with a 4 4 mm (1/6") 5-pole gold-plated balanced plug for use with high-resolution digital audio players and balanced-compatible headphone amplifiers The earpads and headband of the ATH-WP900 are made from smooth synthetic leather for long-lasting comfort and the earcups swivel-flat for easy transport in the included carrying pouch About High-Resolution Audio While many listeners may believe that high- resolution audio came along with the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1982 constraints on the disc’s storage space always prevented CD audio (standardized at 44 1 kHz/16-bit) from fully and completely reproducing the original recorded sound The advent and subsequent popularity of MP3s only made this problem more pronounced – the necessary compression of these files causes audio information to be lost thus greatly reducing the audio quality But with lossless audio file formats faster Internet speeds and storage space increasingly easy to come by (and in ever-smaller packages) the push is on to create audio equipment capable of capturing and reproducing true Hi-Res Audio generally considered to be 96 kHz/24-bit or better The Hi-Res Audio logo certifies that a product meets the Hi-Res Audio standards Per these standards headphones must have transducer frequency performance to at least 40 kHz As a producer of these types of audiophile headphones since 1972 Audio-Technical is well-positioned to provide audio solutions that meet the demands of Hi-Res Audio media formats allowing for the full reproduction of their extended sonic characteristics

  • Very Good Portable Headphones
The sound signature is bright and sparkly. Decent bass nothing that will of course blow you out of the water. These are nice portable headphones that really pushes the envelope of what you can expect in the portable category. I really like them. The design is beautiful. The wood is what really stands out and I can see that these headphones are getting into a fashion statement than just performance/audio. Headphones are comfortable and lightweight. The diamond/carbon coated drivers are extremely similar to my AP-2000TI which is a 1200$ headphone! In fact since these came months after the release of the ap-2000Ti I'd say its even better than the AP-2000TI! Its much more lighter and comfortable for long term despite them both being portable headphones. I wish the pricing was maybe cheaper into the 500$ category but you are really paying for that imported Japanese quality like a Toyota tacoma or something. The sound signature albeit great and bright is much less fatiguing comparatively for long term for sure. It really brings forward that female anime protagonist weab noise that most other headphones don't handle that well. Which means that for other headphones would be even more fatiguing. This is exceptional in that regard. Im talking being on the edge of having sibalance. Its amazing and perfectly tuned for portable use. I'd even argue that in many songs and many cases that these headphones are better than my HD-58X jubilees, and DT 880s (600 ohm). ... show more

  • The headphones are great, but the seller is not
Great headphones. Comfortable to wear, light weight, sturday replaceable cables, and most important of all, great sounds. But I was really apalled when I received it from the courier. The seller stuck all the labels, duct tapes DIRECTLY on the box of the product! This not only made the box very dirty, I can't remove all those materials without damaging the box. I am one who alway save the boxes of the things I buy, and for a product of the Japanese who always put a lot of efforts to the aesthetics, this is heartbreaking just to see that, not to say that it greatly undermined the resale value should I decide to sell it. ... show more

  • Very listenable and comfortable with the right DAC
Pros: well-made headphones that are both solid and comfortable to wear. I'm not so sure if "it's the wood that makes it good" or if the thin piece of maple is merely for cosmesis. However, the sound reveals good musical detail and tonal balance. Nice mid-bass weight but a bit thin on the sub-bass. Beware that these need a high-quality DAC. I was fairly disappointed using a rather cheap one I had on-hand, but with upgrade to the new Astell & Kern, I felt that I was finally able to unlock the quality of the headphones. Cons: Although I am consistently engaged, at times I feel the emotional gap acutely when comparing the experience of listening to some of my favorite tracks on these to when I hear the same pieces through my Tannoys. I thought these would be a huge leap forward compared to listening with my old Bose QC35, but I would say these are only incrementally more impactful. I probably expected too much. More important, this is my first A-T headphone purchase, and I didn't appreciate how atypical the cable connections are and how hard it is to find alternatives to the OEM version. Had I known my upgrade options were so limited, I may have turned to another manufacturer. ... show more

They're very nice designed and are light in weight. The sound is absolutely amazing and brings me tears of joy. You probably will need a suitable equipment to get the best out of them..

  • Excellent Closed Earphones
The ATH-WP900 are very light and comfortable. Their reproduction of ambiance in well recorded music is very good, as is their tonal balance through the musical range. I particularly prefer earphones that produce excellent mid range which the ATH-WP900 do marvelously.

  • Great headphones
I am a long time musician and have spent countless hours in studios wearing headphones. For my home listening I am pretty selective. For the price these can't be beat in my opinion. They also look very cool with the quality unique wood finish. The most amazing part is these headphones have absolutely no sound leakage so my wife doesn't get mad when I'm listening to music while she is doing something else. I highly recommend. ... show more
