I just purchased an Audio-Technica turntable with 3 speeds. I was originally going to buy just the 78 rpm stylus so I could play and/ or digitize some of my collection of vintage shellac. I decided to go the extra mile and buy the whole cartridge/ headshell unit instead. Swapping back and forth is easy and only requires the tracking force to be reset. Having full headshell makes easy to switch from 33/45 to 78. Playing 78s from 1946 and before, not meticulously cared for before I acquired, this cart does quite well bringing out the music in spite of the SNR.

This cartridge & stylus is very easy to install. Using Audio Technica AT LP120 turn table, twist connector on tone arm to remove existing cartridge, install the new 78 cartridge and twist the collar to lock. Reset the downforce between 4-6 grams and antiskate to match. Prepare for high quality music you have been missing. Dirty records check on YouTube for cleaning recommendations. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Worked really well on my most worn and warped 78 rpm shellac record (see video). This is a must have for your 78rpm shellacs!

Cartridge makes a huge difference for playing shellac 78s over the supplied one for the AT-120USB. It should since the supplied one is understandably optimized for 33/45 stylus requirements. I was impressed that it didn’t even need cartridge alignment too - possibly that was luck. I also like the idea that I can upgrade the stylus to says Shibata without swapping the cartridge. ... show more

While this isn't the best cartridge available, it's certainly a good value, especially for the typical consumer who just wants decent quality sound without much work. OMG!!! what a difference! I love old 78s.. I have been playing them on several traditional cartridges. Saw the 78 AT on Amazon and had to try it. The difference is night and day... regular cartridge skips on small flaws often... this does not... music much warmer... clearer... and I am playing what is by no means a perfectly clean 78... made for sure in the 1940s!!!
