Description

The at-oc9xeb dual moving coil cartridge with bonded elliptical stylus is designed to provide outstanding channel separation. The pure copper by Ohio continuous casting (PCOCC) coils ensure pure audio transmission and are aligned in a reverse v-shaped formation to exert less pressure on the stylus, thereby minimizing distortion. Audio quality is further enhanced by a rigid aluminum body that reduces resonance, a neodymium magnet and pure Iron yoke that increase the magnetic energy, and the bonded elliptical stylus on an aluminum cantilever that accurately tracks the record groove. The cartridge body has been pre-threaded, enabling it to be mounted to a head shell or integral tonearm with just two screws – no nuts required.

  • Worth every dollar
Style: Microlinear Pattern Name: Moving Coil Cartridge
I upgraded from an Ortofon Concorde Mix MKII DJ style cartridge, which was spherical, and moving magnet, and my god, the upgrade was like night and day. This kicks CDs ass. Give yourself an MC preamp or a step up transformer (I used the former) and you will be wondering what the hell happened to all the noise. Seriously, this makes you not even think that vinyl is inferior. I've been producing tape recordings with Maxell XLII's on a JVC TD-V541 cassette deck and a Technics turntable, along with a Cambridge Audio Alva Duo Phono preamp and the results are fantastic! Get yourself one of these cartridges, and never look back. Thank me later. ... show more

  • Great Cart - Cannot Beat The Price
Style: Special Line Contact Pattern Name: Moving Coil Cartridge
I purchased the AT-OC9XSL. I was looking for a replacement MC cart that wouldn't break the bank to pair with my Rega P9. Since these are so new there are very few customer reviews out there, but I decided to take a chance on it as I've always had pretty good luck with AT carts. I have about 20 hours in on the cart so far and I must say it is exceptional! At this price point, it sounds more like a cart costing several times the price ($729 at time of purchase). I highly recommend this. Mine is paired with a Sutherland Insight Phono Stage and Marantz Receiver. You can't go wrong with this cart! ... show more

Always a fan of Audio Technica Phono cartridge.I decided to go with the middle of the OC9 lineup.I own now and have in the past used Nude Elliptical and prefer the sound.Great value and huge bang for the buck at $349.I have a Hana Elliptical that cost $475 and I prefer this XEN over the Hana.Im using a Micro Seiki MA-505S tonearm with excellent results.Im looking foward to purchasing the AT-OC9XSL for my other turntable sometime in the future. ... show more

  • Fantastic
Style: Microlinear Pattern Name: Moving Coil Cartridge
This is a review of the OC9XML and it is just an AMAZING cartridge. The level of refinement matches that of my Clearaudio Essence, which costs $1500. In some ways the AT is better. It has better air, and decay around instruments, making them sound more real. The highs are extremely refined and it picks up information that other cartridges just miss. It is not bright like some other AT cartridges, particularly MMs. I also owned the AT-33EV and this is by far a superior cartridge. It is super quiet in the groove. Will benefit from a high quality SUT/Head amp, or a high quality all inclusive phono stage, and a high quality turntable. ... show more

  • AT-OC9XEB and Fluance RT85
Style: Bonded Elliptical Pattern Name: Moving Coil Cartridge
Your Fluance owners manual will tell you that an MC cartridge is not recommended. I'm sitting here listening to Pink Floyd's Meddle album with my Fluance RT85 and AT-OC9XEB cartridge and it sounds amazing. The detail from this eleptical stylus will keep you lost in the music. Once you go to a moving coil you'll never go back and once this one is worn out, you can move up to the nude or micro line. You will need to make 2 easy modifications. 1. The 10 gram headshell will need to be replaced with a 7 oz headshell like the one in the pic I posted. A Pioneer PL 12D works well or you can purchase a new one relatively cheap. 2. You will have to install a 6mm thick turntable mat on your acrylic platter. A little bummer but its all about the sound. Right? I use a Hudson Cork mat. The AT-OC9X series height is .7 mm shorter than the Fluance recommended spec. That coupled with the new headshell is going to make it sit lower. The reason for the mat. That's it. Align your cartridge using a protractor and set the tone arm to 2.0 grams and you should not have any problems with any in this AT-OC9X series. One last thing. Take the small bubble level that came with your turntable and place it on the top of the headshell once you completed the installation. These lighter aluminum headshells are thin and can become a little warped during shipping or just over time. You may need to apply a little pressure or twist to make sure its completely level, thus keeping the cartridge level and the stylus aligned in the record groove. UPDATE: Ive now put about 10 hours on the stylus and it has really opened up!! I adjusted the weight to 2.10 grams and it tracks beautifully. I'm super impressed with this cartridge. ... show more

  • Huge step up from moving magnet for me
Style: Nude Elliptical Pattern Name: Moving Coil Cartridge
This is a low output cartridge so you need a high quality moving coil phono preamp. Or if you want to pay for a step up transformer then into a normal output phono preamp. I changed from a nice Grado Gold. Running a Music Hall MMF 7 turntable (project table rebadged). Working with the entry level IFI ZEN phono preamp, the sound is pretty dern stunning. Much higher musical "involvement" than with the Grado. Vocals are more "present". Bass is good but not outstanding. Highs are perfect, extended but no extra sibiliance. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. I probably will never go back to moving magnet... ... show more
