  • enormous sound and value
Full disclosure, I'm a bass junkie so a big bottom end is important to me, rather than the attributes an audiophile might look for . I have a D1, a D2, a Drumfire II, and two SW-5 subs that I was using in my acoustically deplorable basement. For me, these speakers recreate the feel of being at a rock concert or a rave - and I am talking about the Ds with a sub (not just the drivers by themselves) and the Drumfire. I can't talk about crystal clear highs and balanced mids - not because of the speakers necessarily - I just haven't bothered to turn the bass down from THUNDERING to something less seismic. However on more mellow songs I certainly don't feel like clarity is lacking or that the different tones smoosh together, it remains a room (and even house filling) speaker that really fills a large space even with just one set. It feels like they sounded better AFTER a couple of weeks (don't rush to judgement until after you've put a few hours of music through them) of use, because the initial sound was not impressive - but it seems like run in time is not unusual for audio gear. Using the built-in chromecast on the second series gives much better audio than running through the aux on the first gen, but no doubt using the component input would give the speakers the best opportunity to sound the way you want. Set up is simple, the app is adequate (don't love it or hate it, just don't have reason to use it that often). Everyone has their own preference when it comes to the look of the set, I think it's conservative but flexible enough to work with various decors. I did have at two different deliveries, malfunctioning drivers but that problem seems to be confined to the series 1 devices, and the replacement service exceeded my expectations with no technical issues since. ... show more

  • Real audio equipment!
Color: MK II - Grey
What do I mean when I say this is real audio equipment? In my experience few streaming or blue tooth enabled speakers are willing to give you the audio specs., Some will go as far as to tell you that it is not the whole story, which is true, but it sure is not a bad place to start. The Audio Pro Drumfire blows most other streaming speakers out of the water, with not just full range sound, but sound which will make you dog wonder why you haven't bothered getting good speakers before. To cut to the chase, the audio frequency range is 45-22,000 hz. It is a 60 watt speaker, not the loudest, but certainly loud enough, unless you are wiring up a concert hall. It is a fairly unusual setup, with a huge bass speaker and a sub for treble and mids. I was fairly concerned from looking at it that this was yet another extra bass speaker, but no. It is a full range speaker (and then some). You can set the balance with a crossover balance dial on the rear of the speaker. It has wifi, blue tooth, aux in, and rca (did I say it was real audio equipment?) Several otherwise good speakers have had muddy bass, or tinny highs, and my sound engineer spouse comments that it is just physics. You can't get really good bass in a tiny speaker. Audio Pro does not have that issue (fighting physics for good sound.... in the end, physics will win every time). The speaker is connected to wifi and streaming services via the app (which does not do a lot more). There is a full compliment of streaming services, unlike (believe it or not) the majority of streaming speaker I have tried in the past year or two, which is why I did not downgrade it for blue tooth 4.2, and no high res blue tooth protocols. That, to my mind, is the weakest point with this speaker. I also take issue with a "wireless" speaker which needs to be plugged into the wall.. which caused a bit of trouble in my house, as my husband set it up in our dog's very favorite spot, by the air conditioner. {It has been relocated!} Likely most people have more outlets and more sensibly placed than ours, so we will be messing with the location, or buying a trip lite with a longer cord. But, in terms of sound,. out of the 40- 50 speakers in our house (yes, I am a bit obsessed with audio, as is my husband) there are only a couple which compete, at least in this class of speaker (streaming/ blue tooth). That is, I am not comparing it to our passive speakers. But the only real competitors are the Bang and Olufsen (emerge), the Kube... It has knocked the Sony xp700 out of my top 3... which is why it is in our living room, competing with the dog for favored space ;) I would give this speaker 6 stars if I could, to distinguish it from all the 5 stars products which are not among the best. This is, and actually deserves a top rating which would make it stand out, because it is a stand out. but while I wish it had aptx or ldac, it does have aux in and rca.. and a lot of choices via wifi. Very good, warm, rich, detailed sound. ... show more

  • Modern convenience, minimalist style, truly awesome sound.
Color: MK II - Grey
Mid-sized all-in-one speaker systems are a popular category, and there are so many to choose from. I chose this one without having previously auditioned it based primarily on Audio Pro's reputation and my experience with the manufacturer's other products. Just the D2 head unit can operate as a full range system, and sounds great as-is. Adding the included subwoofer improved the system in a couple of ways. Of course it adds the weight and warmth of a classic bass reflex enclosure while extending the low end down to 30Hz. Also, it relieves the speakers in the upper unit from having to make deep bass, allowing for cleaner and more powerful upper bass and midrange. It's a difference you can really hear. This is truly a high definition system worthy of high-res streaming or your best local files. Admittedly, there won't be much of a stereo soundstage if you're more than a few feet away, but that's just s compromise on this particular form factor. But the clarity and accuracy throughout the audible range is stunning. The Drum fire system sounds at it's best in a large-ish and moderately "live" room, with reflected sound helping create more of an enveloping and engaging experience. As with any speaker, you'll want to experiment with placement, because that can have a big effect on the sound quality. Personally, I found the best combination of fidelity and engagement with the Drumfire placed near (but not jammed into) a corner, angled toward the center of the room, or toward the primary listening position. As for connectivity options, it has Bluetooth and aux (via RCA jacks) inputs, as well as WiFi streaming via Google Cast, Apple Airplay, Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, and Qobuz native apps, Amazon Music, Tidal, Qobuz, TuneIn, and more via the Audio Pro app. Multi-room groups can be made either with Audio Pro's app or using Google Home/Assistant. Through my testing I had no difficulty streaming via any of the modes, aside from an occasional brief delay when first starting wireless streaming. The app is a bit unusual, but once you learn your way around it becomes second nature. You may even find it familiar if you've ever used any other LinkPlay-based WiFi speakers or streamers. If I were to make any suggestions to the manufacturer, it would be to consider adding a basic remote control (volume and media transport) so I don't have to fumble for my phone or get up from my chair just to pause, skip, or adjust the volume, but for the quality of sound the Drumfire II system delivers, I can happily overlook the lack of a remote. One might even argue that a remote is just one more thing to get lost in the sofa cushions. ... show more
