  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Working fine now--my setup was not
Color: White
For over a decade I've streamed music locally within my home (I have LOTS of CDs, all of which I've ripped). My oldest device that I used for locally streamed playback died recently, so I bought the C5A as an intended replacement. This turned out to be much harder than it should have been: some reasons were clearly issues with the C5A and/or the AudioPro app, while some issues were related to my home network hardware/software. In principle, I wanted to rely on the ability of the C5A to act as a UPnP/DLNA client to play music stored on and served from my (old) network attached storage (NAS) unit--something I've more or less been doing for years with other devices. The C5A and/or the AudioPro app would occasionally see one of the three different UPnP/DLNA servers I tried using with it (two on the NAS, one on a Windows computer), but nothing worked consistently. Something might work for 5 minutes or 5 hours--and then disappear, with the connection sometimes never to be seen again in the AudioPro app. I occasionally got the C5A to work with Logitech Media Server (LMS) software running on a Windows computer (but not with the version running on my NAS, for reasons not the fault of the C5A). This particular Windows computer is not supposed to sleep completely, but in the morning it and the C5A could never see each other; resurrecting their ability to find each other was hit-or-miss. My eventual solution was drastic: buy a CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 kit; download and install on it piCorePlayer (a free, pared-down Linux with some free streaming media features--including the ability to run LMS); and use LMS on the Raspberry Pi to pull music from my NAS and play it on the C5A. A software plugin (also free) for LMS needed to accomplish this is a "bridge" for LMS to communicate with UPnP/DLNA devices. This worked, after considerable learning on my part. I then repurposed an otherwise now-useless first-generation iPad (too old to run the AudioPro app) to run an app to control what music LMS (on the Raspberry Pi) sends from the NAS to the C5A. The AudioPro app can do other things, but it can't do that. For the last three days, all of this has been working, with the NAS and the Raspberry Pi on wired Ethernet connections and the C5A on Wi-Fi. Fingers still crossed. My favorite message from tech support at AudioPro: "Our App has NAS compatible issue." I think their app actually has a problem with linking to UPnP/DLNA servers, regardless of whether the server softwar (or the music they are serving) is on a NAS or some other computer. That may have been what tech support meant. For my purposes, I give the C5A four stars (ignoring the fact that my wife hates its "look"), then subtract one for the two weeks I spent getting it to work. Not to mention having to buy and configure a separate (although inexpensive) computer with an operating system about which I know almost nothing. P.S. If you want to use the C5A just to access Spotify or other online services, ignore me. ... show more

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars Constantly Skips
Color: Black
I bought two C5A speakers a few months ago and have been really disappointed with them. The sound is solid enough, but when I play over wifi, the speakers skip every couple of minutes. I can't make it through a single song without a skip. I've done tons of troubleshooting. I can connect through bluetooth, and they play fine (but I can't play multiroom). I have checked my router to confirm it's on a 2.4GHz channel and have reset my router in hopes of making things better. I've run other network tests to make sure my signal is strong. And I can play in wifi mode on my Sonos speaker without a problem. So the only thing left are the speakers, and I spent so much time trying to figure out how to make them work that I can't return them anymore. So I just burned a few hundred dollars on speakers that don't do the main thing I was paying for them to do. Once I save up some more, I guess I have to go back to Sonos. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great speaker!
Color: Black
Yes, Alexa is not responding all the times, but even Amazon devices are not perfect. This speaker is a perfect sound system with a bargain price! Recommended.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Alexa very glitchy
Color: White
Speaker sounds great. But I am returning it because the Alexa doesnโ€™t work half the time. I submitted two inquiries over 10 days with AudioPro and they havenโ€™t responded.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Best Alexa-Enabled Speaker
Color: White
Setup was every so slightly tricky, in that I had to use Apple's "set up Airplay device" procedure to get it on my WiFi, the Audio Pro app's configuration procedure was useless. Other than that, aside from a long update process, things went smoothly. Configuring the device to use Alexa took about a minute. So far it has worked flawlessly. The sound quality is vastly superior to my Echo Plus 2nd Gen, and at least as good as, and in some respects better than, my Sonos One Gen 2. In fact, I would say this little speaker is as close as you can get at this time to hi fi quality sound with a voice-controlled speaker. I'm tempted to buy another one just to see how good it can get with a stereo pair. Of course, it's $100 more than either the Echo or the Sonos. I have not had any of the operational issues identified by other users. No connection loss, no constant resetting. But I suppose time will tell. For now, it's a 5-star product with a slight price caveat. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Good Sound but Firmware needs work!
Color: Black
So the sound is pretty good from these speakers, especially after they warm up as I haven't truly broken them in. The problems are the apps supported on the Wifi connection are limited in the Audio Pro App and bluetooth issues. I wouldn't mind seeing Youtube's Music app on the list or a feature to add your own apps. The other issue is with bluetooth connectivity randomly turning on the speaker when the speaker is turned off. This can be an issue when I'm home and randomly when I decide to use my phone for media, it will activate and play on the speaker instead of my phone. Overall a great sounding speaker. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars the speaker sounds great, the app is buggy
Color: Black
Configuring the speaker was intuitive (for me); the manual tough, close to pointless; so if you don't find things like connecting to a wifi network easy, you might find it hard to get through. One awesome thing about the speaker, other than the sound, is that it can take input from pretty much everything: wifi, bluetooth, line-in. I'm currently using wifi and bluetooth to stream from my phone, and line-in when using my laptop. What's not that great is the app. Sometimes it cannot find the speaker, so you need to restart it. Sometime it can't wake-up the speaker, so unless you want to go and manually turn the speaker on, it may take a few minutes of clicking until it finally works. However, all-in-all I liked it enough to buy another one. Using them in multi-mode is the best thing since sliced bread. ... show more
