Description

LCD-5’s magnetic circuit uses our new patented Parallel Uniforce voice coils, employing parallel traces to keep the impedance low and provide increased voltage headroom. Parallel Uniforce achieves uniform force by altering the current density within each parallel trace. The parallel traces have variable width and were optimized to achieve a uniform force over the entire surface of the diaphragm without increasing the impedance. The uniform force helps avoid distortion and provides better control over the driver resulting in improved resolution. In addition to Parallel Uniforce voice coils, LCD-5 also uses Fluxor magnets to improve efficiency.

Better reviews than mine exist elsewhere (e.g. The Headphone Show by Resolve). Please check those out for in-depth review. This will just be a summary of my experience. Pros: SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than previous Audeze headphones, bass quality is superb, pinna gain exists, treble is smooth, detail monster Cons: soundstage is a little smaller than Susvaras, relaxed mid-treble may not be for everyone (certainly a little too dark compared to Susvara), clamp force is tight Among the TOTL headphones I would consider buying, LCD5 is up there and definitely among the best headphones in the world. It competes well with the Susvara and 1266TC, with each of the headphones having different strengths and weaknesses. If you have the opportunity to try it, this should be at the top of your list. May not be as comfortable for those with glasses (like me) but in my audiophile journey, the LCD5 has presented itself as a notable step and one I will remember for a while. ... show more

    • Great sound, comfortable, but they "creak"
I've been buying Audeze HPs for years now and I could not wait to try out the new LCD-5. I was not disappointed by their sound, and all the reviewers gave accolades and great reviews for them. However, nowhere was it mentioned that the design change to use acetate causes the headphones to creak (low pitched "squeak") every time they are moved, whether they are on or off your head. When on your head and listening to music, they distracted me to the point that I found it more enjoyable to listen other headphones, such as my LCD-24, LCD-i4, Stax or Sennheiser HPs, i.e., almost anything else. I thought I have heard and owned the best headphones available and now I am enjoying listening to a new contender in TOTL headphone world from a well know trusted brand. Audeze (Aww-da-zee) Sound is almost everything in a headphone, but if you can’t wear them due to clamping force or weight, it doesn’t mean much. Deep impactful Bass but they require an EQ. These planars can take as much bass as you can throw at them without distortion or roll-off. They just suck it down. Well-defined textured bass. Not for a bass-head without EQ but the secret sauce is how well these respond to EQ, Want a more airy headphone create a high shelf? I find I can make this headphone sound incredible with a 5 band EQ on the RME Pro. Check it out with Roon’s parametric equalizer. Distinctly a flagship headphone. ... show more
