I put this in the kids' bedroom; 5 and 9 years old. The 5 year old is rambunctious and damaged the brackets that hold the ladder and slide in place due to jumping onto them in his excitement. Even with the damage, the ladder and slide stayed in place. Once he calmed down a bit, I repaired the brackets (bent them back into shape), then drilled and screwed the ladder and slide in place with the bracket as additional support. Because the kids have a lot of energy, I also used a thin piece of lauan plywood (1/4") between the bottom of each mattress and the bed rails, to help distribute the weight of bouncing feet and prevent the bed frame from distorting as they throw their weight around. This is probably not needed with calmer children. The 9 year old, despite being heavier, is more sedate and has not caused any damage to the bed (or various chairs and tables...) so I consider the modifications I made to be a result of the younger child, and not any flaw in the product. The instructions are pretty good, although I suggest reviewing them before assembly--there are a couple similar parts and a couple parts that can be assembled in the wrong orientation if you're not paying attention. Definitely use a handheld screwdriver; I tend to cheat and use a cordless drill with the clutch set on a very low setting and it still chewed up a few of the holes. I also use glue on joints and in screw/dowel holes (again, experiences with wild children) but this is personal preference and I don't expect these to survive long enough to be disassembled. For older children or smaller adults who have learned that they don't need to fling themselves like battering rams, this bed is well built. For the ones who are most likely to use the slide as a playground toy and not just once-a-day to get out of bed, expect it will need a little help (but if you have kids and ready-to-assemble furniture already, you also have glue, screws, clamps, and experience in these sorts of things). We did have a little issue with building it because our hardware pack was missing a bag of the M dowls. That definitely made it more frustrating to put together than it should've been. Otherwise it's a great bed for the price. The wood is decent quality and the package arrived on time. Note that the slide wood is pretty thin and the storage underneath is not attached but a separate part. My kiddo is absolutely loving it. The wood is cheap wood, not the type of wood you would want to build a bunk bed with and also it did not come with the hardware. I sent it back.
