Our last two name brand coffee makers died an early death. One after a year and the other after only 6 months. So this time, I decided to go in a different direction. This time, I wanted to try a "smart" coffee maker since most of my home is now smart controlled via Alexa. Don't know how much "real" utility I would get from a smart coffee maker, but, what the hey, let's give it a shot. Did some online research and decided on the Atomi since they have so many other smart devices. Coffee maker came well packaged in a sturdy box and the Atomi box had the maker very well packaged and protected. Opened the Atomi box and the instruction manual was taped to the box lid. Nice touch as you didn't have to go digging to find it. The manual was very easy to follow. The first few steps are to download their app and register. Next simply plug in the coffee maker and wait for the connection. It all took about 6 or 7 minutes. I then went to the Alexa app, found the coffee maker and set it up. The first use was what I normally do with any new maker, I wash the removable bits and then run a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar. Ran a second time with just pure water. Finally, time to run a real pot. Ground up some beans, poured in fresh water, set the "Bold" setting and turned it on. Nothing. Wouldn't turn on. Alexa, turn on coffee maker! Ok. Nothing. Went to the app and it says the carafe isn't on. Sure enough, it was on, but not all the way. Adjusted carafe and app gave the all go. Alexa, turn on coffee maker. Ok. Comes on and brews a good pot of coffee. That carafe sensor is a great feature. My last coffee maker didn't have that and one morning, I didn't have the carafe perfectly in the base, turned on the maker, walked away and when I came back, coffee was everywhere. Some made it in the pot. Most off it was on the floor and all over the cabinet. Won't have this problem with this maker. Advantages of a smart coffee maker? One, is it is connected to WIFI so it automatically sets the clock. The App gives you a status of the device and alerts you when the coffee is ready. You can set schedules easily via their app, or in my case Alexa. Every weekday at 5:45am it starts. Holidays and weekends I can preset the maker and when I am ready, when wife wakes up, and can say Alexa, start coffee maker. Ok. This Atomi maker appears to be well made and the digital display is very nice and touch sensitive. It is easy to operate even if you don't use Alexa. Their App is pretty good and supports their other devices. The only very minor complaint so far is I wish the coffee was just a few degrees hotter. This is just a personal preference. I have only had this about a week now so I can't attest to it long term use. But, so far, I really like this coffee maker. ... show more

    • Please read me!!!!
I got this for my sister who doesn’t wake up at the same time every day. She rolls over, picks up her phone and starts her coffee. She even gets a notification when it’s done!! **Important to know is that she had a hard time connecting it to her wifi. During set up it asks if you’re in the US or other. She’s in the US and chose US. But it wouldn’t connect unless she chose other. I almost returned it! Glad I tried that!** ... show more

    • GREAT coffeemaker with one HUGE SETBACK

We needed a new coffee maker after our workhorse Mr. Coffee 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker finally died after five years. I was determined to get a smart coffee maker so we could schedule and control everything with an app. Especially so we could turn it on before we get out of bed on the weekends. I chose the Atomi Smart WiFi Coffee Maker over the Hamilton Beach Works with Alexa Smart Coffee Maker because we’re not an Alexa household and I wanted the option to control it with its own app. The Hamilton Beach only works through Alexa. The Atomi Smart WiFi Coffee Maker is basically a Mr. Coffee 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker, but with the additional WiFi feature. They’re practically identical. Which is fine because we loved that coffee maker. All coffee makers should have WiFi. This feature is amazing! But there is a major fault. See the rundown below. PROS: • The WiFi feature enables you to brew coffee remotely through an app, before you get out of bed, which is fantastic. • You can also set schedules through the app. No more messing with buttons to program the coffee maker like an analog clock. • If you unplug the machine or the power goes out in your house, the WiFi brings the correct time back up automatically. Again, no more analog programming. • The coffee maker keeps the pot warm for four hours, which is an improvement over the two-hour cycle on our last coffee maker. CONS: • You have no option to keep the coffee warm after the four hour period. So, if it brews earlier than you wanted, the clock is now ticking before your window of time runs out. You can’t start another warming cycle. On a traditional coffee maker, you simply turn the brew button on again. It will attempt to brew coffee, but keep the pot warm for another cycle regardless. This coffee maker is too “smart” to do that. It detects that there is no water to brew and shuts down without staying on to keep the pot warm. This is an EPIC FAIL. More than once I’ve missed my coffee window and have to microwave cold coffee, which I never had to do with my last coffee maker. • On the same note, if you accidentally turn off the coffee maker then you can’t turn it back on to keep the coffee warm. You blew it. You’re screwed. Now it only wants to brew a new pot again because there is no option just to keep the pot warm. Back to the microwave! I contacted Atomi’s customer service and they confirmed that there are no workarounds for this. The WiFi is a gamechanger and for me, the pros outweigh the cons. But the warming issues are a BIG SETBACK, so consider this before purchasing. ... show more
