  • Great phone for teleworking or home office!!
Style: With Answering System
This is the second of these 2 line w/voice mail phones I have bought. I don't like cordless phones, and this is a great multi feature wired phone. It's perfect for a home office, you can have both your business line and your home line in one place. The sound through the speakerphone is great, I don't bother with a headset myself but it's nice to know you can use one if you want to. I have the voice mail model, and I like that you can get your voice mail remotely. While I don't have a business anymore, I am stuck teleworking right now (April 2020) like everyone else, and I bought this recent one to make teleworking easier. I hated trying to teleconference on my cell phone, the sound is so much better on this phone, and never have any problems with the call dropping! For a one or two person small business or serious teleworking I think it's ideal. ... show more

  • As good as it gets for a 2-line, built-in answering machine, caller ID phone
Style: With Answering System
Almost 100 years ago, Thomas Riley Marshall, vice president of the U.S., said, "What this country needs is a good five cent cigar." Well, times have changed and what this country needs now is a good 2-line phone, with a built-in digital answering machine and caller ID. I'm in small business and have searched for years trying to find one. I've been stuck using my Lucent 1872 phone, which was fine, except it didn't have caller ID and had to use a separate Radio shack 2-line caller ID box which consumed eight AAA batteries. I've purchased several phones, all with no luck because of ridiculous and quirky features, and user un-friendly formatting and programming. Here's the problem: The people who design these phones NEVER use them in real life. So how would they ever know how these things work sitting on your desk? They don't. That being said, I have used this AT&T ML17939 for a couple of weeks. I think I'll keep it. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1) Tremendous value for the money. 2) Intuitive programming and good instructions. It's easy to use. 3) Feature-rich options. It can do a lot. Cons: 1) Goofy keypad design. The huge number buttons are like what you would find on a Fisher-Price toy for children. If you have bad eyesight they would probably come in handy. 2) The whole phone is propped up at a 70 degree angle. So every time you dial a number it's like punching the phone. And with every punch, the phone moves back slightly. You could actually dial the phone off your desk if you aren't careful. I'll probably attached some velcro to the desk so the phone doesn't constantly move backwards while I'm dialing. (If you just have the phone flat on your desk, you can't see the Caller ID, so it needs to be propped up at an angle.) Why will I keep the phone? Because I need that built in Caller ID which will save me a fortune in batteries. Overall, I believe it's the best 2-line, digital answering machine, caller ID, phone on the market today. If you are shopping for a 2-line, digital answering machine, caller ID phone -- this is as good as it gets. It's not perfect, but believe me, there is nothing out there that's better for the price. UPDATE: I am writing this over two years after my initial review. I am still using the phone and am very happy with it. It has held up very well. I'd order it again if I needed a new phone. ADDITIONAL UPDATE: After 3 years, the screen stopped working. This is the small screen where you see the Caller ID. I purchased another one and I'm back in business. I've grown to like this phone and if I need to buy a new one every 3 years, I will happily do so. The price remains very reasonable and because I was used to the phone, the set up only took me 5 minutes. ... show more

  • Slow buttons, voicemail not private, sometimes sounds like a bad cell phone connection
Style: With Answering System
I bought this phone for the headset feature, which works well. Overall, for the low price I paid, it works as a basic home office phone with caller ID, handset-headset-speakerphone, and voicemail. I like being able to add a caller ID as a contact, similar to a cell phone. The most annoying characteristic is the slow buttons. If you dial quickly, you may get more than halfway through a long number before the phone catches up and starts sounding the tones. This can make hurried dialing more difficult if you are waiting for the audible feedback as you dial. It is disappointing that the voicemail can only be heard through the speaker, so it is not possible to listen to messages privately through the handset or headset. The worst problem is that the audio gets garbled sometimes, like a bad cellphone connection. Since so many conversations are with a cellphone, I at first wanted to blame the other party, not my landline phone, even though it seemed like it was coming from my side. After suspiciously happening a few times on cell phone calls, it happened on another land line call, confirming it is a phone problem. It usually doesn't happen, but maybe one out of every thirty calls it will start to sound garbled at some point, and won't clear up once it starts. The audio is decipherable enough to continue the conversation, but this should never happen on a land line call. ... show more

  • Get what you pay for
Style: With Answering System
The phone works somewhat. I noticed after using for a short time when I received a call and tried to answer it would stall for 3 seconds, flash no ac power and then work. I checked the power adapter, it is rated at 6v 400ma. I checked the output voltage and it was 5 v. I swapped out the power adapter with one I had setting around 6v 1a and have not had the issue since. BTW my adapter was 6v at the plug. Other that the bad power supply it seems to work. ... show more

  • Good upgrade from ML17929
Style: With Answering System
Got this to replace an ML17929 (without digital answering) for a home office where I don't want to pay for voice mail on line 2. The answering functions are separate, so keeping VM on L1 and using built-in answering on L2 is ideal - and gets a separate answering machine off the desk. Works with alternate ring tone on L2 for fax machine with a separate number. Only quibble so far is the poor quality of the outgoing message recorded using the speakerphone mic. Couldn't find a way to use the handset. ... show more
