    • Solid little laptop for light work and web browsing
This is the third ASUS laptop I've used over the past fifteen years and as expected it's a solid device that does exactly what I need. While I don't plan on using it for any heavy-duty video editing or audio production it is more than qualified to use as a portable voice-over recording device, basic web browsing system, or for Zoom meetings. The screen is bright and easy to see but there is a definite sweet spot that you can adjust to preference simply by slightly changing the angle of the screen. Actually, I can see that being a plus if I'm ever using it for writing in a coffee shop or on an airplane because the person sitting next to me won't have an easy view of what I'm working on. The fact that this compact device runs Windows 11 is an absolute plus, because even though it eats a good chunk of the 64gb disk drive it's quite snappy when starting up or loading apps and it's also nice to know the operating system won't lose Microsoft's support for many years. One note, the trackpad and body really like to show fingerprints but a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth makes them less noticeable. Highly recommend this laptop for on the go writers or students, the full-size keyboard buttons are textured so you don't feel like you're typing on slippery wet chiclets and battery life is pretty decent as long as you're not connecting power-draining devices to the USB ports. The touchpad also doubles as a numpad and I've found my lazy method of typing tends to activate it accidentally but it's not a real problem as it's easily turned off with one touch. I've been away from Microsoft Office products for some time but can see having the free year of service being useful to those who require their apps for work. NOTE TO USERS: If the TouchPad stops working after login, check Windows 11 Touchpad settings. Sometimes it just turns itself off for no apparent reason!     • Great travel laptop
Great for travel. Small, light (about 2 lbs) and it has a small & light power supply. Has a real keyboard. Has enough I/O (2 USB-A, USB-C, and a full size HDMI) I wish it had a SD card reader of any type, but it does not. The screen is just fine 'cause you're not gonna play video games on this. Yes, it's kinda slow but good enough for email and surfing. It will run Word and Excel. Passive cooling so it's quiet. The main gripe about this computer is the limited hard disk space: 64GB, and the OS takes up 48GB. However this computer DOES have a M.2 PCIe 2280 slot inside, so for less than 20 bucks you can add 256GB, or for less than 30 bucks you can have 512GB. That's plenty for a computer like this. Yes, you have to watch a couple of YouTube videos and pop off the back. You also have to know how to use a screwdriver. This computer is often available used from Amazon for about half the price of new. I got one "Like New" and it really was. I added 256GB M.2 and now have a nice travel computer for very little money. ... show more

I purchased this laptop for a very limited use and am reviewing it based on that. I take musical instrument lessons via Zoom. My computer is an iMac and as I spend my work hours stuck in my office, I didn’t want to sit there during something that’s supposed to be relaxing. I tried using my phone, but had difficulty with getting the sound clear enough. So, I decided to get a cheap Windows laptop. I saw this renewed at a great price and jumped on it. When I received, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it looked brand new. There weren’t any scratches or dents anywhere. It was clean; not even fingerprints. The setup was easy and it updated to Windows 11 without any prompting. The only software issue that I had was it wouldn’t save my yahoo account. After that, I didn’t try to add any other accounts. Not a big issue for me because I usually access personal emails on my phone, but I think worth mentioning. Zoom did have a glitch when my webcam wouldn’t work. I went to troubleshoot and the laptop self-fixed. A tad of an inconvenience in the middle of a lesson that caused me to miss almost half of my class. But once fixed, it was okay. I did notice that it doesn’t seem to work as well in indoor lighting as my phone. I was in a fairly bright room, but I looked shadowed. I probably just need to do some tweaks. I’ve never had this issue with other webcams. I think the one thing that others might find an issue is the very limited hard drive space. Almost half of the 64 gigabytes was taken up by system software. There wasn’t much bloatware. I deleted the few non-Microsoft apps on there and still was almost half full. For my purposes, it doesn’t matter. However, if you plan on using this for school or business or anything else that requires some heavy lifting, you might want to consider something with a larger hard drive.     • Don't listen to most of the negative reviews. They don't know how to tune the machine.
First of all, for those people who got "lemons", it's fair for them to leave a 1-star review. However, please ignore those who keep complaining how slow the machine is. They just don't know how to tune the laptop. First of all, you have to be realistic for getting a brand new well-built laptop for the low price. Furthermore, I also experienced the slowness like most on the first day. However, one must realize Microsoft downloads and installs tons of updates for the operating system. So just leave your machine running for a full day and have a fast connection to get through with all the updates. After that, you need to start Task Manager and look at CPU and Memory utilization. Chances are CPU might get maxed out at or close to 100% all the time and that makes your machine feel so slow. The key is to stop all the unnecessary programs such as all the ASUS programs. You don't need them at all. Don't just "End Task" in task manager, STOP them from starting up at the "SERVICE" level. In fact examine and STOP all the non-essential services. Finally, disable all the unnecessary PROGRAMS in startup. That's pretty much all I did, the machine was nice and responsive after that. The display is blurry even after adjusting every which way including loose. Poor contrast and resolution after adjusting with settings and Intel controls. The flat matt finish makes for an almost blurry image in all modes. Battery dies overnight even when shut down. Fails to charge and lasts about 1/2 an hour when unplugged from power supply. Worst computer I have ever owned. EDIT: Battery dies within hours of unplugging power supply even though computer is off. Will not even start now until power cord is plugged in for an hour.     • Great Mini Laptop for Light-Duty Applications
This is a great mini laptop if you intend to use it for light-duty applications such as email, social media, internet browsing, internet shopping, Microsoft Word and Excel (Office 365), etc. It is not intended for heavy-duty applications such as gaming (good gaming laptops are $1,000+, not $150 to $200). The laptop does not have the processor speed, graphics card, memory or storage to handle high-demand applications. If you purchase the laptop for what it is intended for, your experience will be much better. The laptop is about as small as you would want if you are a touch typist and prefer a normal size keyboard. The keyboard provides good key travel and feedback and the touch pad can be used as a numeric key pad (a major plus for many users). As some of noted in their reviews, the keyboard is not lighted. However, the display normally provides enough light to use the laptop in the dark. Also, given the laptop's battery size, you would not really want the additional power draw on the battery. The battery will provide a good 10 to 20 hours of usage depending on what you are doing on the laptop. That said, when the laptop is shutdown, the battery does drain by approximately 20% each day. After several days of not using the laptop, you will need to plug it in to turn it on. This power consumption when shutdown is not so much a battery issue as an operating system setting. The laptop operates on Windows 11 S (intended for Microsoft approved applications) and it is specifically designed for quick startup. The startup time is similar to that of a Chrome Book. If you recall the small netbooks that preceded Chrome Books--this small laptop is a much better and much more capable netbook. For my purposes, I will gladly give up the additional battery life for the ability to quickly startup the laptop. The laptop has a great display. It is not a touch screen for those who want that feature. However, the display was clear, detailed and bright when watching highlights of the World Cup soccer games and when surfing the internet. The size and price of the laptop are very appealing--just make sure that you truly consider what you will be using it for. ... show more

    • NOT good for everything
Purchased this to go on vacation with. I mainly just needed a computer to access online classes and work with Excel and Word. It did okay with this. It seems just as fast as the HP Core i7 I use, primarily. Actually, I didn't even notice a difference when it came to that. HOWEVER, the issue I had was with Zoom (something I had really not planned on using the laptop for). When I had a meeting with 1 person, my camera would occasionally freeze. Then, when a third person came on to the meeting, the computer/processor could not handle it. The video was freezing for myself as well as the other two people on the call on my end. Eventually, my camera just shut itself off, and things went back to normal WITHOUT my video. Thus, I could see them, but they could no longer see me. The computer (Celeron processor) could NOT handle both transmitting video and receiving video from 2 people on a Zoom call. Thus--and I am sure you have heard or read this before--a Celeron processor is good for only VERY basic computing such as word processing or basic internet browsing. Please don't expect it to be glitch free if you plan on using it for Zoom/video conferencing. Too, it cannot handle a second monitor via USB connection. If you plan on needing a computer with which to handle Zoom, I HIGHLY recommend going with AT LEAST either an Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3. ... show more

    • Very capable for basic tasks
If you're working within the limitations of this platform, then there's really nothing to complain about. It's an excellent throw-in-a-bag-and-go laptop. No bells and whistles (except the numpad/mousepad), excellent battery life, and a surprisingly robust plastic chassis. One charge usually gets about 10 hours of useful life, and that's without extreme battery saving settings in use. The num-/mouse-pad is great. The caveat to that is that it's mostly useless unless you have an external mouse, or are only using it in spreadsheets. Having to toggle between functionality makes it mostly useless, otherwise. But (!!) it does give you a one-hand numpad, which is unheard of in other laptops this size, so that's pretty incredible in its own right. It should go without saying: unless you're talking about solitaire or minesweeper, you shouldn't be trying to game on this thing. That's not what it's for, that's not what it's good at. But for basic productivity, it's hard to argue with this thing for usability and utility, especially at this price. ... show more
