I purchased this computer with a memory upgrade to 8GB. I accidentally started the computer and it went into the Windows install. So I completed it and saw the desktop. I then I shut it down. The Windows install went slowly. No surprise there. I then restarted the computer to boot into Windows and Windows NEVER came up! Again, no surprise here. Not enough hardware for Windows to work properly. I shut down the computer again and got my Linux Mint install disk. I installed Linux Mint, as I previously had planned to do, and Linux Mint is strong and fast! Everything works very well and I am back to recording in Audacity, working in a Word Processor, and managing my digital photos from my D-SLR. I also upgraded the memory from 4GB to 8GB which has also made a difference in the operation of the computer. The first boot with the memory upgrade installed was much longer and with a black screen. Nothing to tell you that the computer is doing a count and analysis of the new RAM. Since then, the computer has booted normally. The laptop uses an electronic SSD so there is clinking sound to tell you the computer is booting. The drive activity light is on the right-side out of sight. This is not good since there is no sound to tell you your computer is booting. This is also true of the Network Activity Light. Again, no way to see if your Network Connection is up or down easily. This is why I gave this computer four stars. These lights should be on the keyboard side of the computer so activity can be better seen. Other than than that, I am really enjoying this computer under Linux Mint and with a memory upgrade. ... show more

This is not a 2.8 GHz processor. It is a 1.1 GHz processor with a maximum burst speed of 2.8 on a single core process. Complete and blatant false advertising. This laptop is so excruciatingly slow that you have to click start, go and make a sandwich, eat it, clean up, read a book, take a nap, and then come back to finally click a program. At which point you might as well just go live your life without it, because you'll be on your deathbed before it loads anything. That is assuming it even loaded into windows, which most of the time takes forever and then loads to a black screen because the CPU can't actually handle the graphics load of windows start up. So you have to use windows keyboard shortcuts to restart the graphics card to even see anything. I am returning this paper weight. ... show more

I really wanted an economical computer for school. I can’t use a Chromebook so I had to purchase another computer. I read the reviews and was hoping this computer would work. NOPE. It’s not an internet issue it’s just turning the computer on its slow from that moment forward. I deleted some of the unnecessary programs on it that came with it and STILL my old IBM computer works faster. Every page I click on it either freezes or takes more than a minute to open up. That’s not the items needed for internet. I’m talking click on any already downloaded feature that’s preset. I’m frustrated but learned a lesson. ... show more

Loved my other Asus with a quad processor. Knew this one would be slow so I dumped all the MS buy-me stuff, shut off Cortana and disabled Edge right from the gate. Made a difference but not much. This processor uses almost all of the installed RAM it came with, 4 MB. New RAM arrived today, installed it and I like this laptop SO much better now. Huge difference in boot speed, wake speed and general overall performance. There is only 1 RAM slot, not 2. Gonna test this for a bit and may upgrade to 16 MB RAM if needed. I get it, things do not always work out. I got the computer, the hard drive was failing. This would not be a big deal.... but, I returned it and they literally charged me a restocking fee. This means they are selling a computer to some other person that they KNOW does not work.

If you find a "open box" one like I did. Be careful as Asus will only Warranty it for 6 weeks. Price was great at $150.00. Was very, very slow booting over 1 minute. Opening even a website (100MBPS Fiber) was the same. Do to the slow 5400 SATA HD installed. To fix this, you will want to buy a WD Black 512MB SSD $49 and Crucial So-Dimm 8 GB DDR4 $20. Once installed (remove 9 screws, open back to install). Boot time to desktop is now 15 seconds from when I turn it on. Everything from website to movies load and play great. You will also need to open and configure. DTS Audio Processing App. Which will make the laptop sound fantastic compared to the default Realtek audio installed. ... show more
