  • First AMD machine
Capacity: 32GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Win11H
I like the ASUS Tuff series of computers. Also never had a AMD equipped machine before and decided to give it a try. Screen leaves a little to be desired but over all happy with the Laptop.

  • Fast. Solid. Reliable. Linux. Windows 11
Capacity: 32GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Win11P
Over all, the Asus Tuf laptops are some of the best all around laptops. Fedora 40 and Windows 11 both install and run flawlessly with boot times in the sub 10 second range from power on. There is one area I would like to see improved: networking. The included 1 Gb Ethernet should be a minimum of 2.5 Gb. and the included WiFi 6 should be a minimum of WiFi 6E. We have 10Gb up and down from the ISP and a WiFi 7 router with 10Gb ports, I would appreciate the bandwidth and speed increases for the work that I do. I specifically purchased this laptop for the AI components which will be released and developed for the Fedora community that is privacy compliant and ran locally. The included CPU and RAM are extremely fast for my workflow. ... show more

  • Quality is good works ootb with current Linux Kernel
Capacity: 32GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Win11H
The quality of the laptop is nice, feels sturdy. The sound is your typical laptop sound and the 240hz ips monitor makes a huge difference comparing it to a 60hz or 144hz. Also I didn’t bother using Windows so I installed OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and everything worked as intended.

  • 5-star workhorse
Capacity: 16GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Win11H
This is a 5-star laptop. It is not without its little issues, but that is not enough to take away from the sheer value for horsepower that you get with this machine, especially if you get it when on sale. I ran Passmark on it after I had updated all of the software and it came out at 10753 for me, which is 1500 more points than my 1-year old Alienware R13 desktop with a top-level i7 processor and Nvidia 3060 card. I got the FA617XT model, which is Win11 Home, the Ryzen 9 7940HS, 7700S Radeon graphics, and the larger 2560x1600 display. These are the best specs you can get in this model line, since otherwise you end up with the smaller screen and the slower graphics chips which you can't upgrade. Asus even did a nice job with the main components, with name-brand 1TB SSD (Western Digital) that runs above spec. For things that you can't add later or upgrade, I would have liked to see a better webcam (it's only 720P), and perhaps a fingerprint reader and an SD slot. But otherwise, there's really not too much more I would have liked to change. But for upgrades, the bottom cover is easily removable, and do be careful not to nick or bend the corners and then do all of your upgrades at once so you don't have to risk breaking something twice. I immediately made the following upgrades, which all work great and are super-easy to access: - There is actually an extra M.2 slot, so I added an additional 1TB Samsung SSD - I removed the 2x8GB 4800 ram and installed 2x16GB Crucial 5600, and it runs just fine at the higher speed - The laptop only has Wifi 6, so I got the Intel 6E AX210 NGW card. It is located under the factory SSD, so just remove the factory SSD and it's an easy swap. - Finally, I got an upgrade key, and changed Win 11 to Pro. Another great laptop from Asus. Just FYI, it is China-made, which is still hard to avoid in laptops. I would love to see them start making these in Taiwan. ... show more

  • Great gaming laptop that is reasonably light and good battery life
Capacity: 16GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Win11H
I purchased this through the official ASUS website. This laptop is a beast for the price. The screen quality is amazing at this price point, I can't say how much I love the screen. It's a 16 inch non-touch IPS 2560x1600 with 240hz and 500 nits of brightness. The color accuracy is almost perfect without any calibration and screen text is sharp. The great screen is powered by the built-in Radeon 780m when in normal mode. This built in GPU runs all the normal non-gaming related stuff without any issues and is extremely power efficient. This is important and part of the reason why I think this laptop is so great. There's a MUX switch to allow the use of the higher-powered RX 7700s for gaming. Gaming on this is decent. The 7700s is a mid-tier GPU equivalent to the RTX 4060. Powering the full resolution of 2560x1600 will take a toll on most modern games, might need to lower graphic quality settings to get high FPS. Switching the 1080p, you can set the quality to high/max and still get great FPS. Honestly, I can't tell the resolution difference when playing on a 16 inch screen. Battery life is amazing for a gaming laptop. If you're using it for general productivity, you can run off the built-in GPU and the 90 WHr battery easily lasts for a full day of use. With the weight at being 4.85 lbs, it isn't that heavy compared to other gaming laptops. This makes this laptop the perfect blend of general use and gaming. ... show more
