Got this one on sale back in January for less than $700 USD plus Prime shipping. I was pretty impressed with it right from the get go. Purchased it as a backup for my gaming rig, specially when on the go. While plugged in, it can handle most current gen games at medium to medium-high settings with decent FPS and previous gen at Ultra settings at max resolution at around 70-100 fps. I added an extra 8 GB RAM stick to bring it up to 16 GBs and an additional SSD, since the version I got came with a 256 GB .2 NVMe SSD. I'd say the RAM upgrade was an absolute MUST since a lot of newer software and games requires much more RAM to operate efficiently. On that note, in order to install anything, the whole bottom cover of the laptop needs to come off, so it will provide some difficulty. Once you're inside, everything is within reach so upgrading things like the WiFi card, RAM, extra SSD and cooling solutions is easy to do. Speaking of cooling, this thing gets hot during sessions... and I mean HOT. I'm looking at 80-89 C on usual gaming sessions on average on Turbo cooling mode. So playing on your actual lap is fine if you want to oven bake your privates. Put the laptop on an actual desk... ASUS' proprietary Armory Crate software lets you manage the cooling system and overall performance, and at max settings, the laptop will start to sound like a jet plane. Noise-cancelling headphones are probably a good idea. Aside from those caveats, and poor battery life (the GTX 1650 can barely run at 25% on battery mode since the battery cannot produce enough wattage for it to run at full capacity) it's a solid little machine if you wanna get into PC gaming with a limited budget. Nice job, ASUS.

I bought this 6 years ago and it's still going strong and working perfectly I can play any game like GTA 5 etc it really is TUF because I had it in my backpack and it fell out of a moving golf cart onto the asphalt right on it's corner like 4 months after I bought it and it has never caused any issue even 6 years later. Everything functions exactly as it did from day one, all the LEDs under the keyboard still work and light up, all the keys and buttons function the same as day one. I did upgrade the storage to Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB and the RAM to 32GB. For about 4 years I used it exclusively until I built a gaming PC at home now I just use the laptop when I travel which is a lot because i'm a trucker so i'm always going from hotels to my truck and staying in different places and it does everything I need it to, it's fast and has different graphic presets that you can select based on watching movies, playing rpg/fps games, reading etc. First and only laptop i've ever owned but I have to say I have never in my life have a PC last this long before, my desktops usually last 4-5 years but this laptop has survived drops without any problem so if I ever sell it for an upgrade such as larger screen or improved graphic ASUS Rog it will look and perform like new even being over half a decade old while still running almost every game with great graphics.

This is a complete review of this laptop with consistent use for about a year, and by consistent I mean over 6 hours every day type consistent (only gamers will understand this). This is based off of reviews I've watched on YouTube and read on amazon, along with my own personal experience. PROS: 1. Screen is bright and displays color very well. No pixilation, and makes gaming and watching videos very enjoyable. 2. The laptop itself is sturdy. The screen doesn't move in place like my dell gaming laptop which had a nasty reputation of the hinge breaking off on the left side, causing movement to the screen and the impossibility of closing the laptop without banging that sucker in. The closing and opening of the screen is very smooth, and very secure. The parts of the laptop where you place your palms are sturdy, and haven't worn out at all, not even the sticker that displays the features of the laptop (also, very spacious especially for smaller hands, probably a better for for bigger ones) 3. The backlit keyboard is a JOY. I've always wanted my own pc set up with the crazy rbg lights and stuff, but i had to settle for this and no problems whatsoever. They're on day and night and haven't gone off, or flickered or died. The colors are super bright and make gaming or even late night web surfing a magical experience. You can change the color in your armoury crate app. -NOTE: It took me some time to find out how to turn up the brightness on my keyboard when it suddenly shut off after waking up from sleep mode, but FN + the upper arrow key on the right number pad is how you control it for those that DON'T want to research it. Now you know! 4. The fans aren't too loud, as in they don't sound like a helicopter in your room. They blast when you game, but it's a louder hum if anything. I dont hear it through my noise cancelling headphones, even if i'm not playing music, just sound off. 5. DOESN'T OVERHEAT!!! As in, the keyboard STAYS COOL, AND SO DO MY PALMS! 6. 3 usb ports on the left side, along with a headphone jack. My macbook doesn't have this, but good thing this laptop does! 7. Surfing the web and gaming is smooth, no lag, no fuss. 8. Seemingly spill proof? I've spilt water, alcohol, and...olive oil (BUT VERY LITTLE!!) and it's managed to survive it all after quickly flipping it down and patting down with some paper towels. No interference or shorting of the software or how it runs casually or gaming. Now I'm not saying don't care about the things you leave around your laptop, but if you're as clumsy as me, I'm saying it won't immediately die on you and it's sturdy!! 9. NOT HEAVY!! You can carry this around without feeling like you've got a ENIAC computer that weighs 29k pounds on your shoulder. Good for those that travel alot, or want to game in their lectures. CONS: 1. GOOD THING THIS LAPTOP COMES WITH A WARRANTY WITH ASUS. I thought i had thoroughly researched all the pros and cons based on the reviews I've watched and read, even consulted with friends who were more knowledgeable with computers. I had to replace my fan two months into having this laptop. Yes, you heard me, TWO MONTHS IN. There was a rattling noise that I could hear through my noise cancelling headphones, even with music on, and I had to bang the left side of the laptop where my palm was resting consistently. I thought maybe some dust was in it, so I tried cleaning it myself but it just persisted to the point where I contacted Asus and sent it in to the repair facility. I had heard mixed reviews about the Asus repair facility so I was nervous, but they sent it to me a month later, with updates through email, and the fan has been working fine with no rattling noise ever since. Turns out, this specific laptop has a very cheaply made fan that people did have to replace sooner than usual. However this wasn't an issue that was specified in the youtube videos I watched or low rating amazon reviews from users that have already used this laptop. BE AWARE THAT YOU MIGHT NEED TO REPLACE THE FAN AND USE THAT WARRANTY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE (i paid nothing for this fix as it was covered, although Asus does repair ASUS Laptops with a price too if your warranty has expired). 2. The keys. The keys are a mess, and I'm saying this while typing without a D key as it split in half and completely fallen off, refusing to attach to the hinge. Obviously with very consistent use, the keys will wear out. However I started noticing wearing of the keys about 5 months in, and my A S D F keys are completely worn off. My shift key has even split in half, next to the D key (which i already bought a replacement for). I've already ordered a keyboard cover (aliexpress), and perhaps you should too..along with a few key replacements too. Overall, a 4/5. For a temporary laptop for gaming, it's here to stay until I upgrade to an official PC set up to stream. For beginners or even intermediate user that just need a to go laptop, this is a bang for your buck. Hopefully this has helped, and happy gaming!

This computer is going into its fourth year of existing with daily use, sometimes 5-10 hour days. Everything so far works and works well. I give it roughly twice a year internal cleanings to get out any built up dust. I also upgraded it last year from 8GB of ram to 16GB of ram and has done very well. I have called this computer my PS4, as its so far been able to handle anything I throw at it. I havn't run into a game yet it can't run, though maybe not on the highest detail. Then again I dont mind potato mode at times in various games. Some game titles ive been able to work with [Plus frames settings] Ark: Survival Evolved - Custom settings ranging from low to high. [Low settings on any extra cosmetics, like skybox, or shadows, Medium everything else] League: Max settings Fornite: Custom settings, doesn't like unreal engine 5, but hey this PC is using gear from 4-5 years ago. Minecraft: Custom settings between low and high. Various other games that can be rescourse hungry. Depending on the game, I was able to stream with it while also gaming some of my less resource hungry games. That was before the addition of RAM. I worked with the PC for about 2 years before upgrading the Ram. I highly suggest doing it on your own, it is super easy to upgrade. Plus well worth it for frame rate. Just buy the right item and plug it in basically. The only thing I have ever really noticed with this PC was when I bought it, I thought it was a lemon. It would blue screen randomly, but it was like after it got to know me it never did it again. Same with the wifi, sometimes it acts a fool, but is still stable enough to run. I do plan to replace it at some point in the future. The fans still work and do a pretty good job of self cleaning. There is very little build up when I go in and clean. I still suggest doing it now and again anyways to make sure everything looks okay. I hope to keep this laptop running until I no longer can use it[PC dies, or games just scale past abilities]. Its really easy to get into and work with. I for sure hope to get another Asus, I'll more than likely get an older cheaper one just like this one was [this PC was bought I believe a year or two after release].

First of all, the 120Hz display makes a world of difference. After 5 years of 120Hz desktop displays, 60Hz displays look stuttery and slow. Once you get used to it, theres no going back, and now you can get one in a budget gaming laptop??? The screens great, apart from mediocrity colour reproduction, but a laptop isnt just a screen, what drives the screen is just as important. The gtx1650 and ryzen 5 CPU do an adequet job of driving most modern games into the 90-100fps region at medium settings 1080p. Even though the gtx1650 isnt the most powerful gpu, its enough to see the benifits of 60+ fps gaming in most games, even if some settings may need to be turned down. I would choose 120Hz screen and medium graphics over 60Hz and high graphics anyday; perhaps laptop screens are too small to really notice graphical improvements from medium-high settings. The model I purchased only has 8GB of ram in single channel. I highly recommend upgrading it to dual channel for improved gaming perfromance- ryzen CPUs love their memeory bandwidth. Boots times and snappiness are noticeably better than my old non-NVME SSD laptop. In other words the included NVME SSD is plenty fast and really appreciated at this budget price point. I also added a extra 500GB SSD. Its alot cheaper to add your own extra storage than buying an upgraded everything laptop ($75 vs $300-400) Everything else is as it should be for a budget gaming laptop- usable keyboard, poor battery life (3-4 hours) average laptop speakers and a mediocre trackpad. Overall I am very pleased with the laptop, it does what its supposed to do: play videos games. In fact it does it fairly well with a 120Hz screen, and at a budget price point at that! The battery life is bad, the screen doesn't have popping colours like a 2 thousand dollar macbook and its not superlight, but thats not why I bought it, I have an ipad for word processing , watching videos and emails. If you want a solid gaming laptop at an amazing price I cannot recommend anything else- the 120hz screen really is a rarity at this price point.

I like this laptop as a whole. If I was to improve upon this, which personally I have. I would upgrade the battery, storage, cpu, and gpu. However they have models like so. For its price I'd say its pretty solid as long as you dont need a battery and run plugged in part of the time. I wouldnt say its a bad thing, but I have to denote that. I've had it for a month, and I put a Kingston 32GB 16x2 DDR4 2,666MHz CL15 Sodimm 240pin kit in it, a 1TB Samsung Evo 860 SSD, and its very easy to open and work with inside. I strongly suggest putting another ram chip inside for dual channel. Its very snappy and reliable. I hosted a 7 Days to Die server and hit just about 17GB usage in ram. I didnt even feel it performance wise. However for gaming, its not amazing. I can run The Witcher 3 in 1080p with 'most' settings on high/ultra but it lacks in AA's, Shadows, and resolution in older games. Most of my games however are older and can run between 48-120 depending on the engine caps. Fallout 4 does not work for me. Fallout New Vegas on max runs about 55fps. Lets put it this way. The screen is 120Hz, but most games wont hit that in fps. It can run modern-ish titles but nothing ram (gpu ram) dependant. I.E 11GB = nope. At the end of the day I'm happy with it. I've had it long enough to leave a review and there ya go. If you want to get into entry level gaming for a laptop, this ones pretty solid.

I never had a laptop that cost this much ($700) ... None the less, this is the best performing laptop I have ever had . I am not picky and looking to max out my settings in everything I do/play, so that being said, everything I run on this ASUS TUF FX505DT runs perfectly to my taste ! I love the glowing keyboard ! I love that keyboard noise is minimal (not quiet) ! I love the nice clear and big screen (minimal edges). I took the advice and bought an extra stick of 8GB ram and plugged it in the inside . The most demanding games I run are Killing Floor 2 and GTA V. My music software (FL STUDIO 12) Runs smooth and I get to enjoy the games and processes instead of worrying about lag and CPU memory issues! Love it! The physical build of the computer is solid, and unless you're real careless and reckless with your belongings, your ASUS TUF should last you a long time. Cons: -currently trying to figure out how to use my F1-10 keys without having to hold "Fn" - the mouse freezes for a second when I type (Never the case with my external USB mouse) Overall: For my money and yours , this is worth the money and more . I initially selected this laptop after another buyer mentioned how you get more for your money. After using ASUS TUF FX505DT for a couple of days, I adore this laptop !

Just Buy it, you cant beat the price/build quality/performance. Screen is beautiful, full HD 120hz and very bright. Keyboard feels great to type and play on. Battery is great, but keep in mind you need to have it plugged in to game of course. The Ryzen CPU is fast although it gets warm(more on how to deal with that below). The GTX 1650 can play anything @1080p med/high settings over 60fps no problem Easy to upgrade ram/HDD's as well! I got this mainly to play Apex legends(which it does perfectly @1080p 60-90fps med settings all day no issues!) And to start using Blender for 3d modeling and animation, which it excels at NO ISSUES! My Recommendations: Add a second stick of ddr4 2666 Ram, either a 4gb o 8gb. That will allow it to run in duel channel mode and increase the CPU's and integrated GPU's performance by around 20% Buy a second 2.5 laptop hard drive, it has an open bay for it. You can get a 2tb seagate HDD on amazon for around $50 Make sure to go to your settings* and update windows fully, then go to Google and search "Amd Auto detect" and "Nvidia Auto Detect"" and make sure to update your GPU Drivers(you have two, one integrated and one dedicated) Download a program called "Ryzen Controller"(use google search). Once installed the ONLY thing you should do in here is set the "Temp limit cpu" to 80. This will help with thermals so much! Trust me. I see a lot of people on here giving bad reviews saying they are struggling during game-play, that issue is because the laptop will sometimes try to use the integrated gpu instead of the dedicated gpu. This is an EASY fix. Make sure your power settings are set on "High performance", and make sure you are plugged into power. If this doesn't fix the issue. You can go into the Nividia Control Panel>Manage 3d settings>Program settings, then choose your game and select "Use Nvidia High performance graphics"
