  • Phenomenal, but has some stuff you'll want to know about first
It is amazing, absolutely the most portable, yet beast of a machine, I have ever owned or even used. The screen looks good, I have been using 144hz screens for years so no change for me. It games and video edits like a champ. I am not going to go much further into what is good, because 95% of it is outstanding. Here is the few things you should know about before you buy. There is one single M.2 slot....that is it... no 2.5 inch and no 2nd m.2. So you're most likely going to want to buy a 1 or 2TB drive and swap it. 8GB of the 16GB ram are Soldered to the MOBO...meaning you can swap the other 8GB stick with a 16GB stick to give you a total of 24GB, but thats it. It will not accept higher than 16GB sticks. Now for gaming, 24GB is more than enough, so again not an issue for me, but for others, who knows. oh and the battery life blows....but its a 6 core i7 and a rtx 2070 in a tiny chassis...what did you expect lol Thats it. The rest is near perfection. Just stuff you should know about before buying. 5/5 easily ... show more

  • Perfect for portable performance gaming
Just gonna get the reasons I couldn't go for 5 stars overall out of the way: Fans are pretty loud, but if you're not super sensitive to noise it shouldn't be an issue, and the computer does have profiles where you can make the fans run quieter, but it throttles the CPU and GPU so they don't overheat, and even with the fans going pretty hard it hasn't been too much of an issue, but this is the first time I've had a computer with fans I can hear almost all the time. Other thing is the keys feel like they're alittle too close to the case. This is more of a personal issue than a technical one though. 16 gigs of RAM is a bit low for my taste, but being upgradable to 24 by swapping out the removable 8 gig stick with a 16 gig is in the plans for the near future and isn't too much more expensive. More hard drive space would be nice. But more on that later. Now for the good stuff: the CPU and GPU are absolute champs. Remember that this is a gaming laptop and this 2070 won't give you the same performance as it's desktop variant, and this is specifically the energy saving laptop version of the 2070 so it performs a little worse than a beefier made laptop 2070. BUT, it's still more than capable of running pretty much anything you throw at it and will likely still be a fantastic GPU to have for a solid portion of even the upcoming generation of gaming. I don't know as much about CPU stuff, but it's been doing everything I've needed it to do and so I'm happy with it. The RGB keyboard is pretty nice to have. Doesn't really have as indepth customization as I would like but it's really not that important to me. I specifically like how the track pad can be used as a number pad instead though. It takes a little getting used to, but once you make the adjustment it feels great and lets the track pad still get some use since most likely you'll be using a mouse with this. Despite only having 500gigs, the SSD is amazing to have. This is my first computer with an SSD and it's completely changed things for me, but I would heavily recommend having at least a 1tb external HDD. Luckily I already had a couple of 4tb externals laying around so space isn't an issue for me, but it could be for other people. I haven't really dug into how the speakers sound or anything cuz I either use my plugged in via HDMI for sound, or my studio headphones for found. I also don't anything with web cams so I haven't looked into that. Battery life if you're gaming obviously is gonna be pretty low, but having the option to only charge the battery to 60% is pretty nice so you put less stress on the battery and get it to last longer. My old laptop's battery only holds a charge for like an hour cuz I never looked into those options until it was too late. This was $1661 when I bought it, and for the money I can't imagine finding a single better computer. ... show more

  • One year update
I got mine from Amazon, not the third party sellers. If you're thinking about upgrading the RAM or storage, you'll need to unscrew the Torx 5 screw. I bought the ORIA Screwdriver set to disassemble the laptop. Place it on its side once you've unscrewed everything but the smallest screws and insert plastic openers. Be careful about the short cables inside before you open. You don't have a lot of room to work with. Will keep this updated if I get into any issues. The fans at high speed sounds like heavy rain. I had to buy an Ethernet dongle since this has no adapter slot. Take two or three hours of your time to fully update every thing. The Intel graphics command center can make the screen vibrant. The audio driver has some technical problems like the headphone jack won't register unless you manually change the Realtek Audio Console Analog advanced settings. The keyboard takes getting used to as they've got less feedback on your fingers compared to mechanical ones. It's a little difficult to use if you have a separate cooling fan below it. But the notebook thin size is definitely worth it. There are some devices that need to update to its latest version through the ASUS website like bluetooth, otherwise don't update unless it's prompted. First big problem. The RealTek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller is disconnected, disabled, then disappears from the PC under very heavy Internet traffic. I am taking time just to reset the PC if there was a problem I overlooked. Update: Ethernet speed cannot exceed 350Mbps. I don't know if it's because the laptop was not built with an Ethernet port, but my gigabit Internet service cannot be reached even with a gigabit Ethernet dongle. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Second update: The external design is very beautiful but the internal components are difficult to disassemble and reassemble just so you could apply thermal paste. It is so easy to fry or short the motherboard even with the proper tools and that is the risk with expensive laptops. Please consider building a desktop PC. The one star remaining is for the efficient keyboard layout. ... show more
