  • Definitely worth its money! Strongly recommend!
Upd as of 11Feb2022: I am still happy with this laptop, no problem or issues have been detected ever. For those who consider upgrate, there are some new pics I took upgrading memory (added more 16 GB DDR4 into a free slot). Here is my quick review of ASUS ROG Strix Scar II GL704GW, which I have been using for 2 weeks so far. Firstly, why I have chosen this laptop and pros at the same place: 17” screen fits the 15” laptop size. RTX2070 GPU, the newest one and not killing with the price of 2080. RTX 2070 is not a cut version as Ti or MaxQ ones, but the full desktop version. Still a slim design, it is a bit sicker comparing to Zephyrus, but there is no Zephyrus M with RTX GPU yet, and I, personally, don’t like Zephyrus S design (the keyboard location is really strange there 😊). In addition, there is an additional slot to upgrade RAM in the future, if there is any need. The second, general impression. The laptop looks really cool! It is slim, it has relatively light weight, it has ethernet port. It is really fast, runs all AAA games. I did not have a chance to test battery lifetime, because it is always plugged in. the screen is bright and has amazing picture, 144 Hz and 3 ms response are great. There are some backlit spots on the screen when you look at the black screen, but they are not visible with daily routine and when you are paying. I would not agree with people who complain about noise from GPU. Yes, of course, there is some vent noise when you play a heavy game, but it is not critical at all and it is not noisier than desktops with the same load. Keyboard is solid, with a pleasant touch and backlit light which you can adjust to your needs. The only thing I don’t like is the camera location (at the bottom), which gives a chin view of your face. But it is not a big deal for me. For those, who are going to strim, or use skype/ video chats- you will need a separate cam. In conclusion. For those who are looking for a slim and modern, with a classical design laptop, it is your choice! ... show more

  • Runs hot and loud but overall a great laptop
I've had this laptop for over a month now. I have had no issues of it not working as intended. Under full load the fans run loud, but there's a lot of hardware in this thing. Playing games on ultra/very high settings push the temps on the GPU into the high 70s low 80s for averages and the CPU averages around 90. I've looked into this and from what I've read the components should be able to handle these temps, but I am going to buy some silicone thermal pads to try to help with temps. There is screen bleed from the bottom with a black screen but it's completely un-noticeable unless the screen is completely black, and then, who cares. I did purchase a second stick of 16GB RAM and it increased my frame rates by 10-15 frames average on GTA V and Total War: Warhammer 2 (those are the only games I've benchmarked before and after the RAM addition). All in all this laptop is powerful out of the box and with a few tweaks can be even more beastly. ... show more

  • Money well spent.
First let me talk about the seller, Computer Upgrade King. This is the second gaming grade laptop I have bought from them. The first one I purchased years ago and would be still running today if it weren't from a mistake I made myself. Even with the mistake being mine Computer Upgrade King still kindly offered to help me get the laptop fixed well out of warranty. Obviously not for free but they were quick in responding to help out in any way they could. In fact they helped throughout the entire time I owned it answering every question I had including upgrade questions I was going to do on my own. They are top notch for support in my book. So when it came time for me to purchase another laptop I passed up every other seller on Amazon and went directly back to them. Now let me talk about the laptop. And realize I review the laptop based on the price and getting what you expect out of the price. This thing runs extremely well. Warm like everyone else says but you can fix that easily by applying liquid metal thermal solution. Runs most Triple A games with relative ease. One Nvidia irons the new RTX out I expect it to provide even better results. The build quality is solid as well. This laptop feels well built. Only thing I dislike is the plastic bottom but hey for the price it's still a good quality. The display is absolutely excellant. If you haven't gamed with a 144hz monitor yet you're in for an excellant surprise. Sound is great but not superb. It's missing a subwoofer like most gaming laptops have but overall the sound is clear and crisp even at high levels. Keyboard feels great too other than the ten key feels a little smaller than the rest of the layout causing me to mistype at times. Overall though this laptop is great and definately feel like your money is well spent. The battery life is consistent with most gaming laptops as I got a little over three hours watching Netflix. The one thing this laptop is missing is not being able to find out how in the hell you get your free Battlefield 5 or Anthem download code as promised by Nvidia for purchasing a the RTX 2070 equipped card. Still trying to figure out how to get that before the offer expires. ... show more

  • Bad Light Bleed
The light bleed is just wayyyy too much. It’s not only on a black screen; the windows background looks like it’s been shot with eggs from how yellow it looks. I went with another brand (not going to mention what brand because then people will rationalize that this is just hate) and that brand has IPS, yes IPS, and it has IPS glow but it has not been shot. I understand that this review is only about light bleed but you get a laptop to stare at it so I’d say that’s pretty important. Let’s just say this was a TV and i would review it like this (seems people like this style): Pros: Super thin and light! Latest Hardware! Amazing Price! Cons: Only one tiny con, the screen won’t work but that’s ok, that’s ok! Just hook it up to another screen even though the point of a laptop is to be portable. All I care about is that it’s a bargain at $1700 plus tax. It heats up but if you put it in a stand and then in the fridge and then under-volt no big deal! You can make this work no matter what. Everything is fine :) ... show more
