  • Going into year four
Style: Laptop only
This computer is going into its fourth year of existing with daily use, sometimes 5-10 hour days. Everything so far works and works well. I give it roughly twice a year internal cleanings to get out any built up dust. I also upgraded it last year from 8GB of ram to 16GB of ram and has done very well. I have called this computer my PS4, as its so far been able to handle anything I throw at it. I havn't run into a game yet it can't run, though maybe not on the highest detail. Then again I dont mind potato mode at times in various games. Some game titles ive been able to work with [Plus frames settings] Ark: Survival Evolved - Custom settings ranging from low to high. [Low settings on any extra cosmetics, like skybox, or shadows, Medium everything else] League: Max settings Fornite: Custom settings, doesn't like unreal engine 5, but hey this PC is using gear from 4-5 years ago. Minecraft: Custom settings between low and high. Various other games that can be rescourse hungry. Depending on the game, I was able to stream with it while also gaming some of my less resource hungry games. That was before the addition of RAM. I worked with the PC for about 2 years before upgrading the Ram. I highly suggest doing it on your own, it is super easy to upgrade. Plus well worth it for frame rate. Just buy the right item and plug it in basically. The only thing I have ever really noticed with this PC was when I bought it, I thought it was a lemon. It would blue screen randomly, but it was like after it got to know me it never did it again. Same with the wifi, sometimes it acts a fool, but is still stable enough to run. I do plan to replace it at some point in the future. The fans still work and do a pretty good job of self cleaning. There is very little build up when I go in and clean. I still suggest doing it now and again anyways to make sure everything looks okay. I hope to keep this laptop running until I no longer can use it[PC dies, or games just scale past abilities]. Its really easy to get into and work with. I for sure hope to get another Asus, I'll more than likely get an older cheaper one just like this one was [this PC was bought I believe a year or two after release]. ... show more

  • Great for those on a budget
Style: Laptop only
This was my first gaming laptop. It can handle some of the newer games that are more demanding but on the lowest settings. I had it for four years. Just sold it to someone because I just upgraded. It’s very durable and if you take care of it, it should last.

  • Great gaming laptop
Style: Laptop only
This laptop is great for gaming. It is a hefty laptop but it’s not meant for travel as much as gaming. It also has a somewhat short battery life. But it’s running some powerful games. Just plug in. It’s easy to upgrade the HD and add more DDR 4 RAM. And does not void the warranty. Mine now has an additional 480 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM total. 16 gigs of ram in two sticks of 8 allows dual channel RAM which helps a lot. I set the default app installation folder in Windows 10 to the addl SSD drive letter and that’s where new installs go. It boots in less than 10 seconds. Seems sturdy. And the RGB keyboard is fun. It comes with windows 10 home for the OS. Overall I recommend this for the gamer that doesn’t necessarily need to play the very latest games on full. But all games I’ve thrown at it work well on pretty high settings or even full. Grim Dawn, torchlight 1 and 2 dungeon siege victor vran and others. And for the price point this got me exactly what I needed. Paying up to $400 more to move to an i7 was just not worth it. ... show more

  • Very good money-to-performance ratio. Little in the way of luxury.
Style: Laptop only
Probably one of the best sub-$1K laptops I've ever used. Since I don't do a whole lot of actual work on the computer, it's a little unfair to judge it by the merits of a productivity/business laptop. This thing is all gaming, all the time, front and center. Construction is very good. The screen is a matte acrylic/plastic, so it repels fingerprints pretty well. Things like spit or dust do show on the glass, however, so if you talk over a mic regularly, try to say it rather than spray it. Perfomance is nothing short of excellent for a $650 list price. Apex Legends is a consistent 60+ FPS on high settings. League of Legends regularly goes over 100. Skyrim Special Edition is 60 FPS on maximum settings, with a healthy helping of mods, to boot. I don't really have the disc space to try anything else, though; one of the compromises in price was a measly 256G SSD. Fast, but small. I recommend a Seagate Firecuda SSHD for anyone seeking to upgrade. Extra slots for drives and ram are abound, giving this book just enough upgradability to keep you in the gaming scene for a few more years than some of its competitors. It also, blessedly, has all of the I/O on the SAME SIDE. All three USB ports, the HDMI port, the Ethernet port, the headphone jack, AND the charging port are all tucked towards the rear of the case on the left side. It irritates me to no end when a laptop splits its I/O between each side because hooking up all my peripherals makes it seem like I'm playing games on an iron lung. There are, of course, some problems! ASUS Armoury Crate is fraught with software issues. Out of the box, I had to flash the thing and reset it because AC was hard locking the system whenever it changed to "Performance" settings. It also refused to sync the RGB keyboard to any non-default settings for nearly a day, until the RGB suddenly and inexplicably decided it was time to work. It also won't automatically adjust the way it's advertised to, unless the charger unplugs itself, in which case it goes into "Silent" mode. Also, it's bundled with McAfee security, which is akin to going to the doctor and having your insurance plan cover a leech treatment. The battery life is also pretty pathetic; 3.5 hours on "Turbo" settings, sitting idle. Not much mobile productivity. But these quibbles are, ultimately, minor ones. After the reset it's worked like a dream and played every game I've thrown at it. The merely average features are thus: a capable soundcard, a 1080P 120hz screen, a proven but not-extraordinary GTX1650, and the six-core variant of the Ryzen 5. Good enough for most games that are already out and many that are coming out currently. My final thoughts: an excellent gaming laptop at an excellent price. If you've got the cash to drop on one of the MSIs or a Razer Blade, you can, but this cuts the market up pretty cleanly. Good job, ASUS. If only your software didn't gargle bollocks. ... show more
