Alright alright, if you’ve made it to the reviews for this machine then you may be considering spending the insane amount of money it costs to buy it. I figured I’d leave a non bias and straight forward review. I’ve been building PCs for two decades, and have had gaming laptops on and off for travel. It’s safe to say I know how the tech works on desktops and laptops. I’ve also used parts from essentially every manufacturer at this point, so I’m not here for cherry pick brands. With all that said, let’s get into the review. Design 4.5/5 - The laptop is made primarily of very high grade ABS plastic that is incredibly durable, and feels good. The RGB accent bars around the laptop, keyboard, and logo are nice and have great brightness. The weight is heavy for a laptop, but that’s to be expected at 18 inches. It’s not as heavy as other top gaming laptops, but it definitely isn’t the lightest. Port access are in the expected areas (power is on the left, where as USB in on the right). So why the 4.5? Honestly it’s the ABS plastic. Sure it feels very durable and looks really nice, but compared to the metal on the Legion series, it’s not as nice. At this price point, having all plastic seems a tad cheap. Keyboard/Mousepad 5/5 - Both of them feel and respond wonderfully. There is no noticeable input delay with either, and the keys, while not being mechanic, still feel exceptionally good. Typing it very easy, and I instantly found myself sinking right into the keyboard. This is by far one of my favorite keyboards in a laptop. Screen 5/5 - If you’ve done your research then you know that this monster packs the best MiniLED out of any laptop into it. The only rival is the Legion 9s 3.2k miniLED and MSI Titans 4k MiniLED. However, neither of those screens having the brightness peak in HDR/SDR, and the Asus has the most backzones. Another perk is the resolution. At QHD+ (2560x1600), you are able to run games maxed out and get much more frames, and honestly, at 18 inches, you are not seeing a difference in detail between QHD+ and UHD. At 240hz and Gsync, this thing is unbelievable paired with the CPU and GPU. Honestly, at this point I am probably rambling about how good this screen is, but I must add one more thing. This is the first non OLED screen I’ve ever seen that looks better. That’s thanks to no aggressive ABL, nearly the same perceiving contrast, and ridiculous brightness. Also, I’m not sure how ASUS did it, but there’s nearly zero MiniLED blooming. GPU/CPU 5/5 - This is self explanatory. I don’t feel like I need to explain why the 14900HX and mobile 4090 got 5/5 here. This machine can run any modern game maxed out and get great frame rates, that’s to be expected. I’ll add one thing in the event people are wondering. The GPU in this machine maxes out at 150w, but still pushes the same frames as other top end contenders who push there’s to 175. You can overvolt/overclock if you’d like but it’s not necessary. Temps 5/5 - This laptop runs markedly cooler than its rivals (especially the Titan Pro), and it impressed me. As a desktop builder im used to the beauty of low temps thanks to AIO cooling and fans. I was surprised when I saw temperature under stress stay between the high 60s and low 80s. I have yet to see temps on either the CPU or GPU go above 90, unless I’m benchmarking. Battery 3.5/5 - unfortunately the battery in this beast isn’t the best, even under lite loads such as simply browsing or doing office work. You can tweak power settings in windows and armoury create, but it doesn’t help much. Average battery life without gaming and lite work is around 1.5 hours with moderate screen brightness. If you dim it down to 20% you’ll get an extra thirty. I wouldn’t even consider doing any demanding gaming without being plugged in, unfortunately with great hardware counts great power drain. This is issue with all current top end gaming laptops, not body this one. However, it could be better while doing simple work. There you have it. Hopefully this helped you either buy it out decide to go elsewhere. For me, this thing is exactly what I want out of a mobile gaming machine.

I've been an ASUS fanboy for 7–8 years straight - ROG laptops, motherboards, GPUs, everything. Never once let me down in gaming or heavy programming workloads. That's why when the 2025 ROG Strix SCAR 18 with RTX 5090 dropped I didn't even hesitate - bought it the second it was available. Four days later I was already losing my mind. Black / gray screen crash in literally every demanding game after 5–40 seconds. I tried everything known to man: • Clean Windows 10 + Windows 11 (every build including latest insider) • Every NVIDIA driver branch from 551.xx to 572.xx (full DDU wipe in safe mode every single time) • BIOS rollback + latest BIOS flash • Every Armoury Crate power profile (Silent → Performance → Turbo → Manual) • iGPU disabled, hybrid mode off, pure dGPU only • Undervolts, overclocks, stock - nothing mattered The ONLY thing that stopped the crashes was installing G-Helper and forcibly capping Core Clock at 1600–1650 MHz in Ultimate mode. After that - no more black screens… but the 5090 was running at roughly 40–55% of its real potential. For 3500–4500+ dollars I basically got a prettied-up 4080/4090-class laptop from two years ago. Turns out this is a massive widespread issue specifically with ASUS RTX 5090 implementations (especially the 175W–200W variants in SCAR 18 and SCAR 16). Huge threads on Reddit, ASUS ROG forums, Discord - tons of people in late 2025–early 2026 reporting exactly the same nightmare. In the end I gave up and returned it. My hardware-nerd friends (guys who daily bench and reverse-engineer this stuff) unanimously told me: "Right now just grab ASUS with 5080 or 5070 Ti - same real-world gaming performance, zero of these insane driver/BIOS lottery problems so far." The laptop itself is gorgeous - screen is insane, keyboard feels premium, speakers are surprisingly good, cooling looks monstrous on paper. But when you're paying flagship money for a silicon & firmware lottery where your 5090 might decide to work at half power or not work at all - that's straight-up unacceptable. Buy this thing only if you're ready to: Spend 2–4 weeks dancing with BIOS, drivers and third-party tools Be mentally prepared for RMA/return Pray that by the time you read this ASUS finally released a proper fix (as of January 6, 2026 - they still haven't) Very sad to write this about ASUS. Hope this review saves at least a couple of people from throwing 4k+ into the trash and months of frustration.

What a massive powerhouse this G18 is. The price tag might be steep, but it is the best future proofing your money can buy. The display is so crisp and bright, it has no issues with heat, it is a very fast machine, one that also feels durable and built to last. The easy access to M.2 and RAM slots are the chef's kiss. It is a thoroughly impressive machine, one that feels high end.

Coming from a Zephyrus M15 with a 2070 in it, this laptop blows it out of the water. It did however cost more than double, totaling at just over $4,100 after taxes. My only gripe is that their thermal paste (liquid metal) job is horrendous. After extensive research, I learned that before I even use my new laptop I should fix their job. So almost $60 later of Liquid Metal Extreme and Kryonaut Extreme (for the surrounding Vram and other chips that are cooled by the heatsink) I opened the laptop immediately after unboxing. I cleaned their mess, applied a consistent proper amount of thermal materials, and put it back together. Windows setup was a breeze with this space-shuttle of a speed laptop, and very soon I was off to enjoyment. Gaming is super smooth. Cooling thermals, and fan noise is very good I would say. The 3 system fans and massive heatsink also help immensely with quiet and efficient cooling. That's about it. Everything I've thrown at it was handled with ease. Fps on ultra everything has never dipped below 100fps on anything. So if you can swing it, this is a very nice laptop.

This is a powerful laptop, no doubt. I loved the way it made my games look for the first week or so. But now I am in a rabbit hole, that I can't find my way out of, and the laptop that I spend SO MUCH money on, is useless to perform the only task I purchased it for. I am unable to game with this laptop, because it randomly crashes and black screens in the middle of online gaming. Gaming is built around progression and statistics. Losing all my long earned inventory, or causing my team to lose because I cannot see, or I crashed, or ruining my stats multiple times a night is the anthesis of a gaming laptop. Its an anti-gaming laptop. Before you purchase this laptop, or any Asus laptop, please do a simple google search "Asus laptop black screen" I have done so much, I have done driver installs, driver cleaning utilities, bios updates, armory crate (asus software) uninstall tool, clean reinstall, and on and on. I have followed step by step guides, Asus forum solutions, AI solutions. Sometimes I can game for an hour and a half straight, sometimes I boot up my computer, and start a game I crash in three minutes. -this is not a thermal issue, I may play for 22 minutes and black screen reboot, and then I may play for 5 minutes black screen, reboot, then I may play for an hour and a half, black screen, reboot. Same game, same resolutions, same settings, same night. When I was considering a gaming laptop for my son, we went with an HP omen, he has had no problems. He games more often than I do, and his PC seems more reliable. Don't know what to say, not trying to be hyper critical, but I am regretting my purchase. I am changing my reveiw. It turns out windows 11 is the culprit. A recent update fixed a couple week clash with nVidia software, and the laptop is functioning well. running some very hi resolutions for long periods of time.

Great laptop. Does everything from video editing to gaming. The display is amazingly bright and vibrant. The 14900 HX is okay compared to 13980 HX. Basically no different. Can undervolt to help with temps which always stayed around 70c. I compared it to my 4080 and 7945 HX AMD CPU and didn’t find a ton of difference other than the display and the build quality. The display is the reason to buy outside of the 4090 which is only marginally faster than the 4080 15-18 percent. The screen size was nice as well seeing that is was 16:10. I really did like the laptop very much. The only downside is that it was not new as advertised on Amazon. It was open box and sold for new. That wasn’t cool. Used the laptop for a bit before returning. Not worth the money if you already have a good laptop.

I bought the Scar 18 expecting a monster. And at first, that’s exactly what it looked like. The first couple hours were perfect — smooth performance, great FPS, VR running better than I’d ever seen, and flat‑screen games looking incredible. I genuinely thought I finally found the laptop that could handle everything I threw at it. Then, in a matter of hours, it all fell apart. It started with small glitches… A few screen tears here and there. A weird flicker. A gray flash that didn’t make sense. I brushed it off at first — new drivers, new hardware, maybe just early quirks. But it didn’t stop. It got worse. Then came the crashes Games started freezing. VR apps would lock up. Windows itself would hang or stutter. Everything that was smooth earlier suddenly felt unstable. I wasn’t tuning anymore — I was babysitting the system. The anti‑aliasing ghosting wasn’t normal ghosting — it was THREE DESKTOPS This was the moment I realized something was seriously wrong. Moving the mouse or a window left a triple ghost image behind it — three faint copies of the desktop trailing across the screen. Not in a game. Not in VR. In Windows itself. It looked like the entire display pipeline was desyncing. And once that started, it never stopped. VR went from “almost perfect” to “unusable” Every fix made it worse. Every tweak broke something else. Performance dropped, stability tanked, and the whole VR experience collapsed. I wasn’t improving anything — I was fighting the laptop nonstop. Then the problems spread to flat‑screen games Tomb Raider — a game that should run flawlessly on hardware this strong — suddenly had: ghosting tearing unstable frametimes random crashes weird motion artifacts It felt like the system was falling apart piece by piece. The worst part? It happened FAST This wasn’t a slow decline over weeks. It wasn’t a bad update months later. It happened within hours of owning it. One moment it was perfect. The next, it was a mess of tears, gray screens, crashes, ghosting, and instability that spread from VR into Windows and then into every game I tried. Final Verdict The Scar 18 has insane specs, but the experience I had was exhausting. I expected a powerhouse. What I got was a system I had to babysit, troubleshoot, and fight constantly — only to end up getting nowhere. For the price, I expected stability. Instead, I got a laptop that fell apart faster than I could fix it.
