  • Most finicky board I've ever experienced
Purchased this as an entry point to get my i7-12700k up and running. It really has been a pain working with this board. Getting into the BIOS is a hassle. The process generally involved unplugging USB devices and hooking up an HDMI connection to the onboard GPU, even when the PCI-E GPU is set as default, Fast Boot off, and then powering off multiple times, or trying to reboot into BIOS via Windows...eventually I can get there doing enough random stuff, but never experienced this on any other build. Has the rather common issue of the VGA light being on constantly, even with PCI-E graphics card removed and just using onboard. Performance seems ok other than this thing seems to have the wrong power limitations for the i7-12700k. XMP1 enabled and everything else Auto, I was seeing Power up to 240W which seems more geared toward the i9-12900k. Auto was setting PL1/PL2 to 135W/241W. I dialed this down to Intel spec (125W/190W) and saw some improvements. to temps and power usage. Latest BIOS available is from 10/13/2021. I would say this desperately needs some fixes. Still on the fence to return it. First ASUS board and not impressed at all. ... show more

  • Did not work with my 12600KF processor, until I switched to a Secure Boot compliant video card.
This is the third board I have tried to get working with an Intel i5 12600KF. The first board was an Asus Z690 Prime board, the second was a Gigabyte Gaming X board. I returned and replaced the processor, and still no change. I changed the RAM, power supply, video card, and double-checked all of my connectors. I swapped monitors and HDMI cables. Nothing. The first board would not turn on at all. The Gigabyte gave the 5-beep speaker code and a VGA light. This board gave me a 1 long, 3 short beep code and a VGA light. It turns out, this is because the GTX 970 is not fully UEFI and Secure Boot compliant. This board defaults to CSM disabled and Secure Boot enabled. I am now in the process of shopping for yet another video card, in an environment where video cards are decidedly not cheap, and newer cards are quite oppressively expensive. -- Addendum I decided to keep this board, and now that I have a GTX 1650, the system boots up just fine, and the system seems stable. It supports the 12600KF, and although it won't support overclocking the chip, I had no overclocking plans in the first place. For the price, this board is more than adequate for most people. A minor annoyance is that this board has 1.5 USB 2.0 headers, thereby only supporting 3 ports, instead of 4. There are enough USB 3 ports on the back panel to make up for it, plus the 2 USB 3 headers. I have a 2-port USB 2 rear bracket, in order to bring my rear total to 4 USB 2 ports (for keyboard/mouse/printer/scanner). Good enough for me. ... show more

  • Exactly what I was looking for!
I haven't upgraded my computer in a number of years. I was about to refresh my PC with AMD, since when I bought my old machine Intel was getting stomped in price and performance from AMD. Seems the 12th gen of Intel has finally turned thigs around and Intel is now not only competing in performance, but also really pushing the cost competition as well! Which is really good for all of us consumers! This is really a no-frills board. It comes with everything you need. Three m.2 Connectors for your NVME, although one of them is also SATA compatible, just keep that in mind if you have SATA drives, as using that m.2 will disable a couple of the onboard SATA controllers. I paired this motherboard with an Intel 12600KF, I know that I need to get a Z series to unlock the overclocking ability of this chip... but I was on a budget, and I figured it won't be more than a year before I get another motherboard in here. I know some people do not like the ASUS Armory Crate, but this is my first time experiencing it. I love that once I had windows installed it popped up and wanted to install all the latest drivers for my motherboard. Just absolutely awesome! The BIOS has an emergency backup which allows you to default back if you get a little carried away with RAM overclocking... or maybe a BIOS update does not go as planned. Very nice. EFIBIOS also means that you have access to a nice mouse friendly BIOS experience. The system detected everything on the first try. I have two m.2 drives installed and 2 SATA SSD drives installed. Everything went perfectly. It does come with a heat spreader for your main m.2 NVMe drive if you choose to use one. It's a little weird to use and the support pad that came with mine was not enough to give my drive proper support, I had to add a little more on my own along with the included "single sided" pad that it comes with for specifically this reason. The heat spreader comes with a nice thermal pad. however, the spreader also is what holds the NVMe in place... so securing it down is a little awkward, but it's not too bad. Overall, I am pleased, has plenty of ARGB headers, two USB Headers. It has just about everything you need, and its perfect if you don't have a K processor or have no need to get a Z series. ... show more

  • Half the vrm heatsink design of cheaper equivalent b660 board
The only problem with this board is the very odd decision to just inexplicably take off the upper vrm heatsink, the cheaper equivalent asus b660 board that’s nearly identical has the full heatsink, again very odd to strip the allegedly more premium higher spec board of vrm cooling. I’d suggest buying the b650 atx board above and saving 20 bucks if you’re interested in a midrange asus 12th gen board. If this is a cost cutting measure to squeeze a bit more return out of an already more expensive board it’s a crude one, bad look for asus. ... show more

  • First time buying intel board, had no issues
I have a rtx 3080 gpu, intel i5 12600k processor, and nzxt kraken x53 aio. Purchased this board due to the cpu I was purchasing. I first installed a defective corsair h100i aio, which I was required to purchase a kit to fit the lga 1700 sockets on the board. When booting I was receiving a CPU temp error so I had to disable CPU fan monitoring in bios. Once I purchased the nzxt aio and installed, there was no issues it booted right away and the asus software installed all my drivers properly. Few things to keep in mind for gamers, in bios turn on the XMP profile for your ram, You can also go into QFan control to put the fans on silent. With this setup I was also able to use the resizable bar feature. All in all, no issues. ... show more
