I was looking to upgrade from a MSI RTX 3080 12GB for 2k ultrawide gaming, and at the time there were only options for ASUS branded Geforce cards that were not a month away from delivery. I've never owned an ASUS card before, but decided to go ahead with the ASUS RTX 5080 Noctua Edition. So this wasn't my first choice. I was a little concerned about how the Noctua brown would look in my blacked out case, but there is barely any brown visible from the side when the GPU is seated, so it was a no-issue. If you're concerned about the brown, don't be... you can't really see it. The top plate has some dark brown, but even in a blacked out case it looked good. No flashy lights or crazy decals, just a high performance GPU. The first thing when unboxing this card I noticed was its huge size, the GPU cooler is much larger than older generations and takes up almost the whole length of my mid tower case. Installation wasn't too difficult, I didn't experience any issues. As far as performance, at factory clock speeds, the main thing I noticed is the card barely warms up at all, and its basically silent when gaming. After a couple hours of gaming it was at 46 degrees! I overclocked it to 2800mhz and it was stable at 48 degrees! In 20 years of PC gaming I've never seen anything like it. Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra with DLSS auto & frame generation ran beautifully at 3440x1440 180+ FPS with no input latency issues. I tried a few other games like Battlefield 6, Fortnite, The First Descendant with high or better settings on each ran stable at 120+ FPS and the core temps didn't exceed 48 degrees. I recommend using a GPU bracket for this card because of the size, just to keep it secure in place. It comes with one you can prop between the card and something else, which is kinda tacky, but functional, practical and magnetic and does the job fine for me. Another recommendation, if you're using this for gaming... use the display port over HDMI, you'll get the best performance. I’m a hardcore gamer, and Call of Duty is my favorite game. I’m always looking for ways to improve my gaming experience, so I’ve tried everything from monitors and routers to cables and input equipment to reduce or lower latency. Red Bull is my favorite energy drink to lower my latency input. Let me start by saying that this GPU is a beast. It barely fits into my large case, so be warned. If this GPU can fit in your case, it’s the best purchase you can make. It’s pure performance, not all the RGB lights and fancy flash. It stays cool even under extreme load. I wasted money on flashy GPUs that had unstable temperatures and caused random performance spikes. This GPU has never had that problem. I decided to move away from TI and Super GPUs. They all performed great, but the cost didn’t justify the performance. When I compared this GPU, which isn’t marketed as a gaming GPU, to other gaming GPUs, it outperformed most of them. I noticed the performance gains immediately. The cool and quietness is impressive. I didn’t have to change my 1000W power supply, which was overkill anyway. This GPU doesn’t consume as much power as TI and Super GPUs. This is a heavy GPU, so you’ll need a support brace to prevent it from pulling from the PCI slot on the motherboard when installed upright. The installation is just as easy as any other GPU, as long as you have the space. I didn’t have the space, so I had to move my water unit to make room. I also had to buy additional top fans for the water cooler, which I got Thermal Lake RGB fans that make the GPU look great in the case. This solves the RGB issue. The BIG Boy Heavy is built to last. It’s a very solid and durable card. This card is compatible with almost any existing setup. Just plug it in, update the driver, and play. I have three .03ms GTG 4K gaming monitors, one LG 32”480hz, one LG 39” 240Hz, and one Samsung G9 49” 240hz. This card puts very clear and consistent resolution on all of them while remaining cool, while achieving over 340 FPS on the 32”, 280 FPS on the 39”and 260 FPS on the 49” It’s crucial to consider your monitor’s throughput. You’ll need a monitor with a throughput of 2.2 or higher to avoid bottlenecks in performance. HDMI offers a performance metric that rivals Display Port. This is a five-star GPU, but I’ll give it four stars because the card is restricted to XL cases, which most people don’t have or want. I have no doubt that the card would have been great. Asus is reliable, Noctua is incredible. Unfortunately I requested a refund without ever testing or using my card, because the seller, HCIR Equipment, did not send me a new card. They sent me an open/refurbished card, marked up well over $300 over open/refurbished cards. Most likely this company is running these cards to mine crypto while they "sit on shelves" and mark up prices around RAM. The ASUS/Noctua cards have not failed to impress in the past.
