  • Asus did it again for me!
CPU: Intel Core i7-1165G7 RAM Size: 16 GB Hard Disk Size: 1 TB Graphics Description: Iris Xe Style: Intel Evo
For the past 6 years I've been using my Asus Zenbook UX305F, which was a wonderful portable fan-free device with a Intel core-m processor but had 8 GB or RAM and a speedy m.2 ssd. I loved that device and probably would just keep using it if this device wasn't on discount. First this is an amazingly well appointed portable and lightwieght laptop. Its got all the latest technologies, Intel 11 gen processors, thunderbolt 4, etc. The build quality is amazing, rigid but light, comfortable ergonomics, large trackpad, nice surface finish. The screen quality is also very nice, its not the best but very nice. One key aspect is the number of IO ports, 2 thunderbolt 4, 1 USB 3.0, HDMI, mini-HDMI ethernet, headphone/mic jack. Webcam has a physical security window and trackpad has ASUS numpad thing. The keyboard has a nice layout, but it probably my least favorite aspect of this laptop. It feels a bit "gummy" rather than tactile, this is really my only major complaint. In terms of performance this thing is zippy, no issues doing anything besides serious photo/video editing. I primarily use this for coding and its as good as it gets. When I first turned this on with Windows the performance was good but than fan speed was obnoxious. However, I'm a Linux user so this wasn't going to sticking point. In terms of support on Ubuntu Linux, it works very well with some minor hiccups. The best part is the linux kernel always deals with fan speed much better than windows so its never a problem. Everything works out of the box besides the following: 1. WiFi doesn't work unless you use the latest linux kernel. 2. Numpad ASUS features don't work 3. Fingerprint sensor doesn't work 4. Most hotkey FN work except F8-F12 None of these are show stoppers for me; I was able to address 1 no problem. Overall strongly recommend this laptop, its just awesome. ... show more

  • Sound system quit working after a week, neither ASUS or Amazon any help.
CPU: Intel Core i7-1165G7 RAM Size: 16 GB Hard Disk Size: 1 TB Graphics Description: Iris Xe Style: Intel Evo
After about a week the sound system started to have a lot of static in it. A few days later it quit working altogether. I tried ASUS customer service and was unable to get to a live person to solve the problem. Then I asked amazon to replace it. They ordered a replacement which still hasn't arrived almost a week after expected delivery date. I contacted customer service again and they still cannot seem to tell me when it will ship. This is too much money to spend on a laptop for this much hassle. And I still can't get on work meetings via zoom. ... show more

  • Great laptop for travel or long sessions away from power.
CPU: Intel Core i7-1165G7 RAM Size: 16 GB Hard Disk Size: 1 TB Graphics Description: Iris Xe Style: Intel Evo
Pros -Super light weight -Ridiculous battery life -more ram and storage + expansion than most -Better keyboard than a Mac -Fingerprint reader is handy -Webcam shutter provides a mechanical block on the Webcam -Type C charging - Bluetooth -Spill resistant keyboard Cons - Super light. Moves while typing and can easily fly if you accidently bump it. -Antiglare screen isn't that good outdoors on a patio or in a park setting -Expected more than a 1080p matte display. - Body material makes me nervous although it isn't plastic. I got this to write software. It has same amount of ram and storage as my desktop and sips power. The finger print reader is iffy if your fingers are ooly or in my case slightly callused from guitar. The keyboard is exceptional for a tiny laptop. Honestly way better performance than my Mac book pro. Curious to check out the new zenbook s, but this thing is smaller and has better security features. ... show more

  • Good laptop with tradeoffs
CPU: Intel Core i7-1165G7 RAM Size: 16 GB Hard Disk Size: 1 TB Graphics Description: Iris Xe Style: Intel Evo
The pros are known and presented in specs: - It is fast, with LPDDR4x, i7-1185G7 and IRIS XE it does what I need significantly faster than my previous laptop, especially when optimized. - Screen is really good, no LED lights under visible, matt, FHD (though 2.8K would be significantly better) and good color coverage - Thin bezels let you to use 13'' laptop bag - The weight kills it - it's definitely one of the lightest laptops at all. Although, while selecting one for yourself, you still can add some 400g. to avoid cons, which are also significant here: Now, cons: - If you're expecting the numpad on touchpad to replace the real numpad - forget. It's a joke and can be used only in very narrow scenarios. And if you need full sized numpad better grab 15/16'' laptop. - The CPU in this model is somewhat stronger than some other models of B9, but drains battery almost twice as much. So if you're not a power user you might get 9-12 hours of battery life, otherwise expect around 6-7 when new and losing 10% a year. - Gets hot, especially in summer. Location of a fan, holes and again CPU - is not well balanced. Higher the temp, more the noise. And you can't make undervolting with this CPU (mine is I7-1185G7). - Touch ID spoiled after several months of use. - On one hand it's rather sturdy for a thing like this, but still the paint is peeling off and it does not look nice. - On the software side: Win10 includes lots of telemetry, so you need to turn it off as much as possible; Asus tools are not useful, update to Win11 also not very good idea. Still, with telemetry off, the pre-installed Win10 works well. Insufficient connectivity: - Wifi connectivity is not very good, on the same distance from the router, the samsung phone catches connection pretty well, the Asus Expertbook B9 is losing it. - Webcam is poor, sound in calls too. Overall usage in the calls like zoom is limited, I prefer using phone. - No SD/ Micro SD card slots, 2 USB-Cs (never used more than one), just one USB-A, HDMI and 3.5mm headphone jack - The connectivity is poor I would say. Also, since it can be charged with USB-C adapter, it would be much better to have phone-like brick. So, unfortunately, the most obvious things about this laptop are cool, those which are not visible, not so much. I don't regret much that I bought this, but would not buy it again. P.S. Bought on other website. ... show more
