    • It's great, but a little slow

I really wish there was an updated version of this. The design is great. It seamlessly converts from tablet mode to laptop mode, depending on whether the keyboard is connected. The keyboard pulls away with a simple tug, and magnetically snaps right back into place. It's even got a second magnetic bar so you can angle it slightly. The back cover folds out into a stand. It's really easy to move, and it holds in place. (It does, however, have a tendency to slide a bit depending on how it's held up.) The stylus can be really handy, and the garage is much better than my previous Chromebook, which had a tendency to collapse around the garage, making the slot too thin and thus trapping the stylus so you couldn't get it out without pliers. The one problem is that, although this is still listed a current model on the manufacturer's website, it was first offered in 2020 and uses a chipset from 2019. My Samsung Galaxy S10e phone from late 2019 has a better CPU and more RAM (6gb for the phone, 4gb for the CM3 Chromebook). I'm not exactly a power user. I'm not using this for intense gaming or graphic design or anything. But it is noticeably slow sometimes. I can watch streaming movies without trouble. But if I'm going to install a new app, do something while a process is running in the background, open an app I haven't used in a while... If I ask it to do anything that's memory intensive, I need to be really patient. Also, I wish there were more cover options. The one it comes with is ugly and doesn't cover the corners or edges of the device. But there are only two third party designs I can find, and neither of them seems very good. I bought this pad for my mother-in-law. Before now she has NEVER been on the internet and uses a flip phone. This computer is easy to use, and comes with a keyboard for old-school use. She loves it! I would recommend to anyone who likes touch screen access and keyboard access.

This is a fine machine for light web browsing and light Android apps. I used it to read scanned PDFs, read ebooks, Google Docs and Sheets, web browsing (with both Chrome and the Brave Android app) and SSH. The keyboard is very good for a keyboard attached to a tablet and the built in stylus is a big plus. If you can accept its lackluster speed it's a good device. The built quality is excellent. The SoC (CPU) is a few years old and its speed, or lack of it, shows. Even the iPad 8th generation is noticeably faster. Forget using it for heavy work like video editing. Instead get the iPad 9th generation which is close to twice the speed but also close to twice the price when you add in the cost of an Apple keyboard and stylus. While the CM3 does support running a Linux virtual machine don't even try. I did and it destroyed the performance which only was fixed with a powerwash. The CM3 will get updates for another five year (until June 2028). In the end I returned it after a few days as I required Linux support which this machine failed at running at a usable speed. If you're looking for great 2-in-1 Chromebook I highly recommend the Asus CX34. It's my daily portable and does everything I need it to do. It does come at a higher price and twice the weight of the CM3 but it's a great machine that will last for many years. It's also very fast. This thing is slower than a kindle. Everything I try to do I’m waiting for the computer to catch up so I can do the next thing. I can barely work on this thing. The device has a nice vibrant screen, at least the one I got, and it held up to my 2 yr old abusing it a few times. For this class of device, chrome OS works fine for the most part and battery life is decent. I can get a couple days from a charge if browsing around 5hrs a day. I wish is that the device was more fluid, every now and then it max's out and stutters. The covers could also adhere with stronger magnets, but it's not too bad. the other aspects, such as keyboard cam, sound, pen, etc. are just ok, again for this class of device. ... show more
